In this video I go over whether the BB58 is still king of its segment in 2024, why I prefer the blue over the black and my impressions of the watch.

    I'm a sucker for blue dials and bought the Tudor BB58 Navy Blue back in Nov 21 and absolutely love it. Fresh, more youthful take on the original Black/gilt version (which I also own). Excellent in-house movement (Kenissi is a joint venture with Breitling and Chanel), strong lume and 70 hrs power reserve. It has that special hint of a Rolex Sub, but it can stand on its own two feet IMO, especially when nearly £1,800 less than an Omega SM300 in July 2022, and let's not even mention what a Sub's retail availability and cost is currently.

    The black dial uses rose gold gilt, not yellow. I tried on the blue dial, liked it. Then I tried on the black/gilt and fell in love with it. My BB58 is on the Tudor leather strap, which enhances the warm tones of the dial and bezel far better than the bracelet. I have bonded with this lovely watch, wear it daily. It is as close as I will ever come to owning a new four digit Sub. I own two Rolexes and love them, but my favorite watch in my collection is my Tudor.

    Ah I see. Well I guess the rose gold guilt was still too gold for me 😅 Good to hear mate! Either colour, the watch is pretty great. I really don’t think there’s a proper substitute for near the same price :)

    @@libertyv5426 check the 925 in person and see how silver plays with the light. It's the most 'light friendly' metal element. Very different from any steel, white gold or platinum. At a glance, nothing special to most people, but for the wearer and owner, it's an appreciation that you can bond and grow with from one day to the next.

    Your sentiments match mine. I just acquired this watch for the third time. I honestly think it’ll stick this time. I’ve tried a lot in the price range and realize few watches offer the package that this one does. If only that t-fit clasp were available.

  • @StandardTime

    @StandardTime

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes exactly! I have no clue why the T Fit is not yet available on it. Makes no sense considering they introduced the clasp on the BB58 bronze. So clearly the have the clasp designed for these measurements already. I think it’s a temporary thing, meant only to thwart sales towards BB Pro and now the new Ranger

    Beautiful watch and good quality, I think the proportions of this timepiece are perfect. I love this BB58 blue, the aluminum bezel and the very slight difference in colors between the bezel and the dial together with the curvature of the glass provide a depth that is characteristic of the best watches. A must have in my opinion. I really don’t understand why to sell it, maybe people buy it to get a Rolex that maybe is not so beautiful as this BB58. Great video, bye.

    I've been eyeing both black and blue BB58 ever since it was out. It's interesting that great watches will still be desirable after years. Since I don't have a blue dial, I thought blue was the way to go. But after more than a year, now I gravitate towards the black. First of all, it has red in it! The black has that vintage sub quality with a bit of vintage seamaster feel as well. The blue feels younger, and the black feels more classic. Hits of yellow gold is acceptable as the text is in yellow gold hue, and makes it more vintage while not over doing it. Don't like faux patina or faux rivets but then again, I'm not a purist especially when the overall aethetics and price more than compensates. Well price is a little steep to be honest. Hence I keep oscillating between Tudor and Oris. BB58 still does get immediate visual attention. I think Blue is something you go for if you already have a main watch, which I do. I'm torn nonetheless.

  • @StandardTime

    @StandardTime

    2 жыл бұрын

    Interesting thoughts. I completely get the oscillating between the two. Tough choice. For me it’s the gilt and faux patina that I’m not a fan of. Oris also provides great value at this price point but it comes down to whether it’s a question of putting off the Tudor for later or whether Oris is a true alternative.

    The black has warmth. It's neo vintage. It swaps pumpkin patina (Omega would just put orange lume), for rose gold. The blue? Shouldn't even be called a 58. It has nothing to do with 1958. There is only one true 58. They should have given it square plops like a Pelagos, and called it the BB73, (if numbers outside of the 41mm are to indicate year). There is nothing vintage about any of the ensuing 58 models (save for maybe the 925.) If you don't like the vintage look, then you don't like the BB58. It's literally supposed to be a 1958 reissue.

    It would still be more expensive than the BB58. Either way, the Seamaster is a more modern design while the Black Bay line is more vintage. Sure specs wise the Omega is better, that’s why it costs more. But other than that, it comes down to what design langue you want.

  • @AliensWanted

    I have the Omega 2254 and I agree, BUT the newer Omega Seamasters are too thick - so they would have top address that and remove the Helium Escape Valve in a 39.5 to truly match the design and look.

    @@AliensWanted Nice, I just picked up a 2255 electric blue. I actually like the HE valve. Its a quirk that is distinctly Omega, yet still functional although not commonly used. They could also make the coaxials a little thinner or at least manipulate the case design to appear thinner. I actually don't mind a little thickness if it can appear proportional on wrist. Conversely, Tudor does a horrible job at making thin watches look thick with the slab sided design

    Who cares. I'm not into flash in the pan trends. The blue, I don't care for, but the black is timeless. They're only 'played out' in the watch community. In real life, how many people have you run into wearing one? It is a classic, it will never be out. In the real world, nobody cares about watches. The 1% of people you meet who are into the hobby, likely still won't have the same watch you're wearing. People need to get off the community microscope and understand that any watch you own is still pretty original. Even if it's a DateJust (which is admittedly the most common luxury watch I encounter at work). I've rarely seen the same ref/style in my organic encounters. 36, 41, vintage, newer, fluted/smooth, oyster/jubilee, ss/two-tone, diamond/stick, dial variants....They're still all different. Only 'played out' in our tiny, insignificant bubble of a world.
