    So i've ridden the Evo HD 29 with a Maxxis Minion DHRII DD 2.4 Terra, and the EVO SL 29 in front with an Assegai Exo+ 2.5 Grip. I bought them in June 21 and rode them until now (Nov 21). I ride a lot in the Swiss alps. Basicly every weekend i visited the mountains and went on long enduro tours or rode in bikeparks. These inserts went through a lot of rocks, roots, jumps etc. I also participated in several enduro races, so they did see some missed lines ;-) I am quite impressed by the weight and rolling resistance. Also mounting/dismounting is a breeze opposed to cushcore. The protection level ist great. I never had a flat once. Checking the right tire pressures was my biggest issue. Even with a digital pressure gauge I didnt get consistent results. Like as if the valve was clogged, which it wasnt after releasing some air by pushing an allen key through the valve. I usually ride with 22 psi in the rear. But the tire didnt "feel" like that. It felt rather like 29psi. Very firm. I did find that the Tubolight gave great support when cornering and didnt experience any burping. Also, adding sealant through the valve was a struggle. After a month our so, you could also hear the inserts chatter inside the tire, which isnt too annoying when riding but did get me question if something was loose on the bike. Overall, I think the Tubolights are of great value. They definately deliver great protection and are light and easy to install. Just the issue with the tire pressure is annoying. Also, I believe the EVO HD is overkill if youre not racing downhill. EVO SL might be enough on both wheels for enduro. I'm gonna try that out next summer.

    Great comment @wetmunky . First of all how lucky are you to ride in the Swiss Alps? I think a lot of users have had the same problem with the sealant / valve core. I am glad to hear that they are great for Enduro bikes also, I think I will put a set in mine. I have cushcores in my ebike but only because I had already bought them. There are now so many inserts out there so thanks for the comments on your experience.

    Add a 'Hole' in the insert at the Valve Stem for the Sealant to have a 'path' to the 'Void/Pocket' in the Tire beyond the Insert...

    No problem, hope you like them. Sometimes a pain to fit but the thing I worry about most if I am racing and have to put in a tube, very difficult to get the tire off trail side.

    @@jaselikesbikes I mainly race Enduro these days, so most likely I'll not add a tube during a stage, but rather finish it on the insert. I used the rimpacts - which were a pain on installing as well - but the tubolights are even lighter.

    Thanks for a great review. I installed tubolight in my rear wheel today and it felt great during the test ride but I think I have a problem. I removed the valvecore and filled the sealant and I think the sealant stayed in the "airchannel". When I release air the sealant comes out through the valve. Did you experience any simular issues? Tomorrow I will fill some sealant directly in the tyre instead. Sorry for my bad english. Cheers from Sweden!

    Your English seems great to me. I had issues when I used a different sealant than the Stans. I do find it easier and less messy to pour sealant directly into the tyre. I could see how sealant potential to stay in the air channel though so it is not bad advice to pour it directly into the tyre.

    Found that out, too. Talked to the guys at Tubolight and they said to put the sealant in the tire, not the valve. if you use the valve, the sealant can get stuck in the 'air channel".

  • @magnusc
    @magnusc3 жыл бұрын

    My problem with this Tubolight is that the sealant gets stuck in the air channel for a long time and clogs up the valve. Wonder if it would help to make small holes from the air channel to the outside so that the sealant can get through to the other side.

  • @jaselikesbikes

    @jaselikesbikes

    Yes I have heard that the sealant can clog up the valve. I had the problem with thicker sealant but stans was ok, alos I think you have less problems if you put the sealant directly in the tyre and not in through the valve core.

    Interesting, I tried the Tubolight EVO HD earlier this year in my 29"x2.4" DHR II rear tyre and found the tyre to be very solid afterwards but also installation was a nightmare and you had to pour sealant in-between the insert and outside of tyre which was nigh on impossible when still trying to mount it up. I'm interested to try the SL version which is smaller and although I ride enduro I feel the heavy duty insert is too big for a 2.4" tyre and maybe the SL gives enough protection without making the tyre feel dead, no pop/rebound and hell to ride up hills with

  • @jxrxch

    also i've considered making some channels/holes between the inner and the outer in order for sealant to migrate from inside to outside but then i think that probably defeats the point of having the "sealed" inner and outer chambers...

  • @jaselikesbikes

    Yes I decided it was easier to put the sealant directly in the tyre but no big deal. I do think these light ones are great for XC/trail. I have just put some cushcore XC in my Levo SL and will do so on my enduro bike. I think liners are perfect for ebike and enduro.

    I installed the tubolight and then blew the tire up to pressure to get it seated on the bead. When I wanted to leave air out to get it down to riding pressure, only the air in the channel between wheel and tubolight came out… how do you solve this issue?

  • @jaselikesbikes

    @jaselikesbikes

    Hi Lars. That is an interesting one. Maybe take the vale core out to let the air out and infate back up to normal pressure or just put some pressure on the tyre. Sometimes the tubeless valves can get clogged up with sealant. Hopefully it works out for you.

    HAd the same problem. I barrowed a CushCore valve from and friend that sloved the problem. The insert was blocking the top hole of the 'normal' valve stem, but the CushCore ones have holes on the side, too. So if you can find a valve stem like the CushCore one, I would give them a try,
