We would often go diving on the reef off Key Largo. We lived there for 18 years. The reefs were incredible. We lived on an Oceanside canal and all kinds of wonderful creatures would swim into our canal. Manatees would come in in the winter and we would give them lettuce and a hose for them to have fresh water. Our canal was Crystal clear and we had spiny lobster and tropical fish living under our dock.

Craziest thing I’ve seen was a brain coral that a friend had in a tank. I went by one day and took a look, and the coral was consuming the fish, with 60% of it sticking out of the “rock”. When it finished eating it, there was discoloration in the area. There I was, thinking it was a filterer lol.

great vid. that was hideous and freaky.... the dancer is a real transformer in some underwater sci-fi action thriller.... i used to live in a temperate/cold region with good bay life for snorkeling if ever warm enough. the green/brown reef look, although not as glamorous as coral, had plenty of life and as interesting as any coral reef. always liked the seahorses and leafy seadragons in the weeds and grasses. cuttlefish are awesome too.... abalone, urchins, fish, rays, crustaceans, all in 2ft to 10ft of water.

Prey animals typically have LOTS of offspring to increase the chances of survival. It’s not a hard and fast rule but generally that’s what you see. The dancer may have many as well though. Humans are the only species to destroy the species we do not hunt while preserving the species we do hunt.
