Tu-144 Crash - Did ONE Switch Cause Concorde Rival To Disintegrate?

Ғылым және технология

СССР-77102, the second production example of the supersonic Tupolev Tu-144, tragically Disintegrated in Mid-Air at the 1973 Paris Air Show.
The crash killed all of the aircraft's occupants, as well as several on the ground, and severely damaged the aircraft's reputation.
In this video, we take a look at new theory which attempts to offer a new perspective on what may have caused the Tu-144 to Disintegrate in Mid-Air.

That was a great video. Nothing but tu144. Interestingly the tu144 was relegated to being a mail carrier. Whether espionage was involved or not, she was just an amazing aircraft, its unbelievable that both concorde and the tu144 were designed and built before the days of sophisticated computers.

Indeed it was a sad ending for an absolute technological marvel of the cold War era. She couldn't fly very far, or above land (which, as seen, didn't apply to ussr land 😅), so it flew to far Russian east and Kazakhstan

I was at the 1973 Paris Air Show on the day preceding the accident and watched the flying displays of both aircraft. The Concorde was flown as though it was a demonstrate flight for a Mirage fighter jet. By comparison , the TU-144 was flown as though loaded with thousands of crates of fresh eggs that had to be delivered with none broken. Turns were shallow, climb out after take-off was similar to a fully loaded 747, essentially it was a test flight that proved the airplane could fly. The contrast between the two aircraft could not have bn greater. The following day, Sunday, was the last opportunity the Soviets had to demonstrate the superiority of TU-144 which they tried to do with a steep climb after takeoff holding the nose high attitude far longer than the Concorde had on both its flights. So great a nose high attitude that the legendary Bob Hoover watching the event was heard to say, they are going to stall. Seconds later the plane did. Seeing both planes on the tarmac, it was pretty clear the slightly smaller Concorde was a real thoroughbred, while the TU-44 was a plough horse. RCB

Concorde was indeed a thoroughbred, the Tu-144 was a ppor copy, the price of technology playing catch up with policies

The USSR had a (small) XB-70 Valkyrie clone and that became their TU-144 team. If ur good, u can spot the few pics of the bomber prototypes 😮

so basically the same like mcas with boeing except it was the aileron directly instead of the trim tabs. the pilots didn't even stand a chance in both cases

I don't know why everyone compares the 144 to Concorde. It's a bit like comparing one of those kit cars you can build that look just like a Bugatti Veyron but underneath it's actually an old MR-2. The only thing was that an old MR-2 was screwed together better than the 144. The problem was that Russia spent so much of their time stealing information from the West it didn't do a good enough job with its own research to make the aircraft work properly. Hence you had something that was always going to be inferior and constantly had to be "fettled" in order to get to work. Although it looked good, it was actually garbage.

it looked amazing, but you are right in that the Russians did most likely "borrow" a lot of the plans, but lacked the knowledge and tech to produce something as refined as Concorde.

    CCCP? You mean SSSR

I did consider SSSR however I thought most people would be more familiar with CCCP given its prominence in propaganda, media, etc. But thank you for pointing that out.

Your speech cadence sounds lethargic making an interesting topic sound like a mom putting a child to bed. I know I’m being severe but I want you to succeed. Unless you’re just doing this as a hobby.
