Tsunami - The Aeronautical Research and Racing Homebuilt

Ғылым және технология

An introduction to Tsunami, a homebuilt aircraft designed for Unlimited air racing and speed record attempts. The video was taken in the summer of 1986 at the Chino, CA airport during the aircrafts final assembly and test flights stage, and ends at Reno, NV where Tsunami participates for the first time at the Reno Air Races.
To this day Tsunami is still the fastest homebuilt propeller driven aircraft in the world.
Tsunami ultimately crashed in 1991 killing owner/pilot John R. Sandberg. The aircraft is currently being rebuilt with plans to race again and to capture the 3km world speed record for piston powered propeller driven aircraft.

Thanks for posting this and the other videos, incredible aircraft and technical achievement and I'm so glad the project has shared part of it's story with everyone. It's my goal to be working on something like this one day.

They cut the soundtrack when Tsunami's engine started, rolled out and took to the sky. I say we are lucky that someone decided to take the time to share this with us. Historic footage!!

I like it. Fits the era and beats the horrid metal music that people think is cool.

Just cuz you own it doesn't mean you should be flying it.

there's an element of truth to that .. however NO ONE could have flown this airplane out of that flap asymmetry
