I took a trip to Italy in May. I checked a bag so I could take some pocket knives. However, my carry on backpack had a 6” fixed blade in its hidden compartment on the back (I had wondered where that knife went to) anyway, TSA in the US wasn’t amused and I was surprised it was in there! I hope whoever at TSA that ended up with my knife enjoys their new SOG. I also lost a cheap Kershaw pocket knife I was carrying in Rome, they have metal detectors at the Colosseum. lol. Enjoy your trip! Eat gelato every chance you get!!!

Great video! About using a red light on a plane: I've been saying for ages that the Jetsetter needs a slightly thicker "Red Eye Jetsetter" sibling. Ditch the scale tools and put in a flashlight pen combo but with the old-school red LED, add the old school nail cleaner nail file and the SD ruler and you've got a toolset that actually makes sense to me. I gave my cousin a Jetsetter because she travels a lot but I always wished I could've given her something slightly better (in my eyes anyway). I love my old red LED Midnite Manager for taking past-bedtime notes.

Really cool to see the items you brought and the consideration for each. It wasnt until recently that i truly found out how those vice grip pliers work while working on a diy project. And man the locking capability is pretty great. So i can see how that might be a good tool to have.

I think I may have been to that knife shop back in 2019. Or one very close to it based on the map. Small space, just one room. I got a sailors knife there as a souvenir. But I was drooling over the tiger Damascus blades they had. Only 4000 EUR. :-)

I was in Rome this year, I had only my carry on backpack, I flew with a Victorinox Jetsetter, Gerber MP600 Bladeless and Boker brass tactical pen. From Czech to Italy, everything was fine, the TSA checked the Gerber, complimented it and let me through, but on my way back from Italy, TSA had problem with the Gerber and they told me the pliers are off limits, so I had to check in my backpack. So don't bring a bladeless MP600 to Rome. But you should be okay with it in Czech airport. 🙂

Nice setup. I've found that pliers (any type) will be scrutinized. My last trip, through Asia, they now have signs specifically calling out large tools and flashlights in Korea, Philippines, Tiawan and Indonesia. Small flashlights were not a problem, but my tiny Knipex got pulled at the first stop during a 19 day trip. Tiny screwdrivers got the supervisor called over in one country, but they let that go. It went in my check bag on the next leg. YMMV

thanks for the great video! I'm just getting into EDC and multitool world, and your videos have been amazingly helpful. I wanted something to carry around everywhere, including the airport, and It's just sad that we don't have any plyer-based multitool that is high quality and TSA friendly after Squirt has been retired. But this Nextool seems very promising! Would love to see a tutorial on how to remove the blade. Thanks again for your videos!

It would be good if Victorinox had more travel friendly options beside the Jetsetter, I would have assumed the bottle opener, can opener, #2 phillips, pliers, corkscrew, usb, magnifying glass, hook, and maybe the bitdriver (cybertool), and nail file would be travel safe? The ballpoint pen and led light would also be handy

I love that you did the "experiment" with the tools. The problem is how inconsistent border control personnel can be in different countries and even within the US. After living abroad for so long, I leave nothing to chance. Navigating an airport is stressful enough without having to worry about being delayed getting to my flight, or worse.

Flashlight, power bank, first aid, paracord, tape, power adapter, carabiner, and scissors are the only things i find that i actually use and need on international trips. My trips are in cities, public transit, apartments or hostels, and include some local work and improvising. I have found a use for 10 or 15 feet of paracord on every single trip for years... including fun vacation type trips. There is always something to repair, secure, or hang up to line dry. I agree that the baton is the best flashlight for travel.. moon mode is very useful. I dont have that case. I carry the charger and a bit bigger battery bank due to having up to 48 hours of travel and the potential for frequent power outages where I may be working or travelling. One other thing that is great to travel with is a mini sawyer water filter. Its not just for the woods or the third world. Ive used mine a lot with sketchy tap water and plumbing in old buildings in very old cities.

I traveled 4 months in latin america with just a sak Keychain knife that i cut off the blade.. handled pretty much everything(those scissors, just so useful).. maybe i'm not an "edc guy," lol... but i do think a flashlight would have been useful (which do now carry)... a small 3" bladeless multitool is definitely a space worth exploring for traveling.

I am totally here for blade less EDC options. There's so many places you can't take even a small blade these days. My ideal would probably be a victorinox Explorer minus blade layer and replace the awl with a nail file. Or something along those lines. Such a market that onenkne seems to be addressing, except for key organizers like KeySmart that let you custom assemble something. Costly, though.

When I saw your Milwaukee/ViseGrip hack I thought "Ooooo I should do that!" Then I started wondering how helpful it would actually be. You might consider just firmly clamping the ViseGrips around your keychain or something else. I've been doing that for years with intermittent air travel without a problem. I use it as my keyring "handle" when I reach into my pocket. By clamping AROUND and not ON your keyring, you don't mash the ring. Your experience may vary : )

I have said for a while that if they would replace the small blade on the super tinker with the file from a cadet - it would be my perfect knife - but the blade delete with the file on the screwdriver would also be awesome. Agree on not bringing anything valuable southern than Emilia-Romagna/Toscana. The more north you go in Italy (Europe in general), the less petty criminal you will find (more industrialised it gets), the southern you go the worst it gets. Especially around Lazio/Puglia/Calabria you will find a lot of Albanians, Nigerians, Moroccans (unfortunately in Italy it’s always them in the newspaper) causing trouble. At the beginning of the year an Italian guy got shived by three Albanians for 20€. Not even a phone or something valuable. 20€. Stay in crowded places and be mindful of where military and police is (especially in the south it’s more deployed). Be careful and stay safe. Cheers.

@@Skobeloff... why do you say so? I'm italian and I never had problems with americans besides them being rude. Some cause brawls, but they are mostly military men to do so. Criminality comes from Albanians, Nigerians and Moroccans in Italy from my experience. You also have some gypsy problems here and there but it's more about petty theft/pickpocketing than dangerous criminality like stabbing, beating, drug dealing and such. Nothing against those three nationalities but there is a reason if they are the three most incarcerated one in whole Europe...My advice in Italy: steer away from them.

I know that in UK they have the same problems with them. If you see them in group just steer away, they are called "maranza" in Italy, like baby gangs.
