Good morning Sarah I used to work this and other local areas back in the 1990s. I remember going into what was left of the old Temple Cinema to see a homeless person. The church grounds were locked and secured long before then. There are several reasons why 1 plain and simple security 2 Health and Safety i think the church closed and was partly demolished back in the 1970s 3 Vandalism 4 The area was and probably still is a hot spot for ladies whose work offers them a horizontal position. I dont know what was special about the Tower or why it was saved. My father in law who always had an eye for a quick buck used to say valuable things were put into the masonry above a church door. . I have no idea if this is fact or fiction. I doubt access would be granted but you could try the Diocese of Manchester. ..... I have only ever approached them once over a housing issue and found them most unhelpful Or try Manchester City Council......

I went there last year and it was closed to the public then. Razor featured it on one of his explores just before it was made unaccessible. Glad you enjoyed the old bus. Thought you'd gone upstairs to spark up, as you would have done when you was a kid. 🤣xx

Yeah Razor had a right good mooch down there didn't he. He did also at the time mention that it might have been possible judging by a notice on the fence to get a tour around the place and that he'd also made a return visit with a friend only to find that the vault had been secured by padlock. I went down to see if I could get you something and that was when I found out the whole place had been secured. x

Wish i had a £ note for every 5 knuckle shuffle that upstairs back seat on the bus has seen.

Hi Sarah,-does the "409"-bus still run from Oldham to Rochdale ?--I used to get it from" "Newhey-to-Rochdale"-when I worked at "The-Manor Brewery "--It had really nice Buses,-like that one !!-(but that was a long time ago !!)--don't get any "spells"-in your hand,-off that old fence !!
