Trying To Drive A Humvee Home From The Auction = Bad Idea!

We bought a HMMWV Humvee after seeing only 1 picture in an online auction! Now we are going to get it and drive it 600 miles home! The only things we were promised was that it ran and had a new top and seats in boxes in the back. We flew in bought some tools and supplies and attempt to prepare it for the drive! Does it move? Watch and find out what happens!

I was driving my humvee in Los Angeles. We moving to Colorado now. And humvee doesn't start no more 😆 Cold weather, probably glow plugs are bad. Good luck with your humvee 💪

64k miles on a humvee is almost guaranteed to be on its 2nd or 3rd engine. I heard you mention starting fluid. Do not, under any circumstances use starting fluid on a 6.2/6.5. It detonates before diesel does thus knocking the whole ignition cycle out of time. The residue from the ether will also coat your glowplugs and cause them to go brittle and break off over time.

Engine has a reman date on it. We didn’t use the starting fluid just didn’t know what to expect so we needed to be ready for anything. It starts right up and runs good so we got lucky.

Any particular reason it'll be on its 2nd or 3rd engine with 64k miles? Does the temp they run at kill the engine fast?

Top🤔 its nice out. Do that at home. I'd worry about the 20+ year old tires. I own two HMMWVs and counting.🍻🇺🇸

We were worried about the tires and in the end they got us, we tried to find somewhere to pick some up on the way but no luck finding anyone with anything 16.5 in stock. We had fun and are looking forward to more HMMWV fun!

BTW; appears you have one of the ORIGINAL HMMWVs we built. Overinflated Tires is likely why you did not/chose not to make it "home"!!! 20 PSI Fronts; 25 PSI Rears. You may get a surprise when you tear-down those tire & wheel assemblies. The could still have the original 2-pc. bolt-together, magnesium Runflats inside. Speedometer/Odometer have been replaced at least once since HMMWV was originally built. The only way to properly "re-tension" a Matched Set of V-belts in a HMMWV is with a Belt Tension Gauge.

You guys are funny. I don't know everything about humvees but what you thought was a electric fuel pump is the fuel filter. You point at the fuel lift pump and thought is was missing a pump. The canaster coming off the passanger valve cover is the cdr valve for crank case pressure. Looks like it was a fun adventure.

I'm only a year old 2 HMMWV owner but I'll pass along as much information as I can relating to everything pointed out in this video. I own a M1097R1 and a M1114 Uparmoured HMMWV. Yours looks like a M1097R1. The Valve you're pointing to at 3:37 is called a CDR valve, it's a piece of the deep water fording kit. At 5:00 it's just an inside joke but don't call it a Hummer you'll make Humvee Vets mad lol. At 5:48 Always if possible change the Coolant as soon as possible and give it a flush, my radiator had about 1/2 inch of sand in the bottom of both the engine rad and turbo radiators

At 6:20 The military always zeros the odometer after a service. So that should be aprox 64k since last service which is alot but that may mean that the truck has been running solid with no issues... or they have been ignoring them. Typical government stuff

At 7:05 the board is multi purpose. It could be a radio platform, ammo storage, tool storage, and gunners platform. At 7:23 The vibration could be a multitude of things but most of the time it's just the run flats putting the tires out of balance as they shift inside of the tires. Now I'm not as serious as some on this issue but as a word of warning the spindle nuts holding the tires on can fail if not properly installed and serviced causing major injury or death. I don't want to scare you with this Information but I feel it's a worthy warning. At 11:00 if it helps you can just unplug the back left connector and the engine will turn over but can't start. I don't fully know why yet but I do that alot when I go out in it. At 16:10 yeah the fan clutch typically sounds like a jet engine. Gave me a pretty good scare the first time I heard it.

At 20:10 under the custom drinks carrier I'm really surprised the radio deck in your truck came with a BFT (Blue Force Tracker) shock mount for the radio, that's kinda rare. At 22:20 your rear soft wall should be under the soft roof cover rim

Lastly at 27:40 If you need tires that are brand new pre balanced and have run flats check out Eastern surplus in PA, that's where I got mine. One of my tires had been shot out when I bought my M1114. The tires are all Kevlar lined so they won't violently explode like traditional tires but that back rear is definitely bad.
