Trying Out The Claymore On Malenia (NG+2 No Hit)

I felt the itch to play even though I had no intention to do so for the rest of the day. Claymore has been my go-to greatsword since Demon's Souls and it's still the old reliable with an added flavour to spice up the monotony of the same moveset over several entries. In terms of fighting Malenia, I think I'm getting the hang of fighting without any tools or spells. Patient plays and careful positioning is really increasing my odds of survival. However, sprinting and jumping away from a sudden Waterfowl still needs work because sometimes she still clips me even though I jumped at the right time; even with light roll.

You absolutely can never go wrong with the Claymore. That heavy works well with this fight too!

Yeah it's really the pokes that truly make the Claymore stand out since it's the only greatsword that has it. Any slow weapon will benefit greatly from an attack that can thrust to cover distance. I'm gonna do something silly and try using my first Colossal for my next attempt. Oh boy.

Major props to you for beating her with my favorite weapons in the series, because I couldn't. Perhaps it was because I had the flaming strike ashes are war applied, which made me not able to use the claymore to it's full potential? How I beat her is by duel wielding a flame art claymore and a blood knight sword with a mimic tear. I might have been able to beat her alone, but I didn't wanna get tortured for possibly days, weeks or even months.

Thank you! The thing you have to internalise is that powerstanced attacks take longer to finish and recovery than a regular R1. This means that if you have to be patient with Malenia with a single greatsword and even slower weapons, it's doubly so for powerstanced greatswords. The key is learning when your opportunities to attack are, what attacks you can use and if you can keep her staggered long enough to retreat. Punish and immediately back away. Flaming Strike is okay but the problem is that there is a significant time gap between the flame and the sword swing. If you stagger Malenia with the flame, there is a high chance she will retaliate and her hyper armour kicks in to punish you. This means the safest time to use the full skill is after a riposte when she gets up.

Nope, either I use the "Memory of Grace" item to warp me back before the kill-screen, or back up my save data. You lose your Runes if you use the MoG item but you'll keep the boss alive; as long as the screen blacks out before the "X BOSS FELLED" comes up.
