Trying out Pianoteq 8.2 (Goodbye sampled pianos?🤔)

Музыка

Modartt came a long way. I am honestly shocked with how good 8.2 sounds. Of course the presets are still hit or miss, but the jackpot is when you find YOUR preset. Let me know in the comments what you think about the sound.

long time ptq user here (since 5.8) so i've seen it evolve a lot over time. 8.2 is great and i think it will just get better and better. that said, what's far better here is your improvisation. great job!

Beautiful playing, man! Love the Steingraber. I'm not quite ready to say goodbye to sampled pianos, but Pianoteq is definitely my favorite modeler and extremely responsive. It's one of my go to practice pianos because of the playability.

@@RabihRihana You bet! I keep eyeing the Ravenscroft full version, I have the iOS version and it's nice but limited velocity layers/samples. I really like the VSL pianos for extreme playability but they're so expensive and certainly not as flexible as Pianoteq in most respects. Being able to do things like expression-based modulation makes Pianoteq more playable than an even an acoustic piano. It'll be interesting to see how physical modeling progresses over the next 5-10+ years!

I’m obsessed with the New York Steinway model, which is apparently based on the model D Spirio|r. The nuances of the piano are captured remarkably well; tweaking some of the parameters helps capture them further. My favorite presets are Classical, Pop, Prelude, and Close Mic.

My favorite in the NY Steinway is the jazz preset. So expressive and rich sounding (can't believe i just said this about Pianoteq).

This is also my favourite D preset. The 8.2 update to the D was so good I convinced modartts support to change one of my purchased pianos to the D. Since it came out just 2 weeks after I bought it. Problem is now that all other pianos sounds "bad" in comparison. Nice playing, you are really good. @@RabihRihana

LOVING THE VIDEOS!!! I do have a question, where would you stack up pianoteq 8.2 compared to VSL CFX? (besides pianoteq expansive customization)

Getting closer but not completely there yet in terms of SOUND compared to the top sample libraries out there. I emphasize on "top sample libraries" because 8.2 for me passes many piano sample libraries now, but not the top ones we all know. VSL CFX is great, i recommend the full version as the mics in the full version tend to mask the percussive bright characteristics of the tone. Sorry for the late reply!

Sounds awesome and great playing, did you do some customisations? I tend to shorten the damping duration a lot for example.

This is the best modeled piano, and if you compare this to the best sampled pianos, there's still a BIG gap between them Of course ptq is getting better and better and I'd say the playability is superb with it, but it haven't convinced me yet, maybe they can make realistic piano sounds with their v9.0 and then, i swear that I'll buy every fooking patch they have Period Mu current favourites are VSL pianos that simply ARE pianos, especially their bosendorfers and steinway d

Honestly yes. Of course there are still hints of that metallic top end and sterile midrange in some pianos and a lot of presets, but on the other hand there are many presets with 8.2 that are extremely convincing. I upgraded to 8.2 last week and if i wasn't that convinced I wouldn't have crossed the bridge :)

@@RabihRihana that is good. I am yet to delve back into it but sometimes I really want to pull the trigger. What one is your favourite? I have always liked the Model B and always felt like it was the most accurate. It just feels right and sounds right to me. I even compared it against a real Model B and was surprised at how close it was to the real thing.

If we are comparing to 100+ gb sampled pianos for 100$ +, then maybe yes, those are kind of in its own league when it comes to authenticity, since they are the actual instrument. Pianoteq is however, kind of in its own league when it comes to playability and expressiveness in my opinoin, 127 unique velocities, and precise control over velocity curves, etc makes it extremely dynamic and precise. It also has, imo, the best and richest string resonance model. On top of that, you have by far the most control over the sound with the ability to tweak almost any parameter you could think of on a real piano, and probably the biggest library of different pianos too. Pianoteq is quite far ahead of less demanding sampled pianos like the ones you find integrated on yamaha/roland/casio/kawaii/nord keyboards. Anyone of those 5 manufacturers could buy modartt and put this engine inside all of their digital pianos and instantly become world leader of digital pianos. Im surprised it hasn't happened yet honestly. This thing is only 50 mb and runs smooth on a more than a decade old iphone, this makes it ideal for traveling musicians etc. Pianoteq has a lot of selling points.
