It’s not “strawberry pie” per se. It was “strawberry daifuku” pie actually strawberry flavored mochi and red bean paste. It’s basically a rice dough and beans.

for people who has had mochi and red bean paste since forever they will appreciate the strawberry pie, but for people who are trying the mochi red bean combination for the first time, it will be a disaster. please also note that the red bean in japan is worlds away from what they sell in the states.

The "play dough" texture is actually mochi. They put mochi inside which gives it the texture, if you don't know what that is, it's some sort of filling (Icecream or red bean paste) wrapped in a soft and streachy outer part. it's not gone bad or anything its yummy and perfectly fine to eat. 😊

As somebody who lives in Japan. If you visit Japan, you SHOULD try McDonalds. But know that if you only visit you aren’t getting the whole menu. McDonalds here has seasonal items which fits Japan’s seasonal culture. They generally bring back the popular items, but only around the season/holiday it is for. I think most people come in spring, when they have sakura style items. My personal favorite is around October when they have tsukimi (moon viewing) themed items. Other places do have some seasonal things, but not so much.

The girl's eyes nearly popped out of her head and then asked, "Really?!" I didn't understand her shock at my request until she pulled some packets from under the counter. 1 of their packets was equal to roughly 5 here in the US and if memory serves each packet cost an extra 10 cents. It was probably the best experience I ever had at a Mc D's - was in Japan. Super clean, quiet, and the service was on point. And I got my food super quick. It was very disconcerting coming from America :)

They serve Coke Zero instead of Diet Coke. We don’t have Diet Coke here, but the Coke Zero is pretty much similar. As far as the pie, it’s actually not a “strawberry pie”, but a strawberry daifuku pie strawberry mochi and bean paste. It’s based an on beloved Japanese confection.

It’s called a “localized menu” nearly all big franchises do it in every country to appeal to the local demographic.

In South Africa our McDonald's cheese burger is served exactly the same. I assumed the American cheese burger was the same, just larger.

Same in Canada; our cheeseburgers have ketchup, mustard, pickles, and onions. Can't imagine how bland they would be without them!
