That Kimchi & Tofu Soup still haunts my taste buds. Your choice of emoji perfectly sums up my feelings about that soup. On the other hand, I really like their japchae. I have food restrictions so if I want to try a Korean dish, I usually have to make it from scratch. Their japchae isn't perfect but it hits the spot if I'm craving japchae and don't have the energy to make it from scratch. The only part that stinks is it's usually sold out at my Trader Joe's too.
I appreciate you comparing authentic taste to Trader Joe’s products or other products. It lets me know if I am tasting Korean food as it was made in Korea. I like your recipes- I’ve made a few and have enjoyed them and I’ve decided I like to dip my pork in the sauce not have it sit in the sauce! Thank you. And I am thinking of your ❤ healing healing - my best as you navigate it- it is hard.

i second this, traditional grounding is so very important at least for the next generation & foreign acclimating to different cultures without washing them out. also your voice ❤️💛 thank you for your voice
I used the beefless bulgogi in gimbap! It still doesn't remind you too much of bulgogi, but definitely felt less mushroom-y and having it with the other gimbap ingredients was really great.

Oooo yeah this is a good idea
Yay part 2!! I am glad you re-reviewed the vegan bulgogi because I have it in my freezer but was scared after part 1 to even try it, haha. Also I tried the marinated bulgogi as well and I absolutely hated it, I actually couldn't even eat more than a couple pieces. I was so mad since it was so expensive LOL. I don't know if I got a bad batch or what, but it even smelled bad when I cooked it. I like to bring the japchae to work when I'm lazy, it's a convenient lunch. But so exciting seeing TJs come out with all these Korean products! Would love if you could show some of your favorite frozen items from H-mart 😋

HAHA we def had a similar experience!! And yeah the beefless one I ate the leftover yesterday and it’s kiiindof growing on me now 😂 definitely much better crisped up, and with some veggies. That sounds like a great Idea. I will def get on that 😂
I've only just subscribed, but I love how in-depth you are about these items that you jot everything down. You obviously put a lot of work and effort into your videos, and it shows.
u always upload at the perfect times when i want to get cozy and relax thank u
Last weekend I got a ton of stuff from your part 1 video and was so excited to try. I also got the sliced Korean Rice Cakes (white bag) and they were so good. I was always SO jealous when people would eat them (or the traditional shape) on video bc I always wanted to try them. I just moved from Queens to Miami and miss NYC so much. I love your videos - more of the city please 🤗

I only discovered your channel recently so I'm playing a bit of catch up! I'm really loving these reviews because even though we don't have Trader Joe's in Canada, we have other chains with similar frozen / pre-packaged products and I've been pretty impressed by most of those so far. I also have to say that these review vids are great because they seem to bring out a different side of your personality that is really nice to see! Looking forward to seeing more!
that looks so gooooood 🤤 i hope you show us more dishes from around the world too and your content is what i turn to whenever i feel sad, so thank you for making these comforting videos aswell :)

Thank you for making these videos. I got curious about Korean food from watching Let's Eat 2, years ago. (it got me into Gamjatang especially.) I've discovered I need to go to a Korean restaurant to get the best idea of what the food tastes like versus what I can make at home, and what I've found at Trader Joe's. I'm in a part of California that does NOT have an H Mart, makes me sad. Also, I love how K-Dramas almost always have everyone enjoying regular Korean food all the time. It's beautiful and I wish more cultures included their foods in their shows so I can learn about them. From a local restaurant I learned I do like Kimchi, a banchan of pickled chayote squash, japchae, etc., SO much delicious food. Thanks for highlighting it and providing recipes. I'm going to try your recipe for soft tofu soup this weekend.
I love how she take notes while eating 🥺❤️
I'm loving this series(?) keep them coming😍😍
So happy you tried the Japchae!! Its my favorite from there. I can never find it at court street so I have to stock up when I do
Enjoyed this!

Just saw kibbeh next to japchae and definitely you should try it!!! Omg sooo delicious
She is just amazing Watching her makes me feel so happy She is my stressbuster🥰🥰🥰
I was pretty happy to see the Gochujang at TJs. Not only is it convenient but it also does not have corn syrup like many Gochujangs out there. It also taste right!
Finally! Thank-you!
Thanks for sharing!! I’d def appreciate if there were time stamps for the diff products but other than that, thanks so much for the reviews!! Super helpful ❤
I’m so sorry for asking about the kimchi tofu soup 🥲, but I’m so glad part 2 is out! Also, would you mind sharing where your white jacket is from (the one you wear when you’re shopping at TJ’s)? It’s adorable ❤🥰
I would LOVE to see what you have to say of the various commercially available vegan kimchi! I didn't know about kimchi til after I went vegan and I'd love to try (and don't think I'd do it justice if I tried to make it myself!)
Excellent! Thank You!
Can we have more of such food review or more Korean food ; what I eat in a week video? ❤❤❤❤
You should make a video about costco stuff! They have tons of Korean/ asian stuff
Omg I tried some of the Korean stuff from Trader Joe’s and I had it while watching some Korean drama! Great video Maddy!!

Thank you for doing the TJ Korean frozen food review 🎊. It saved me a lot heartache and grief. 😂🤣. I’m definitely going to get the frozen bulgogi because I like my meats that’s a bit thicker in the soy sauce marinade. Please do more of these kinds of reviews in the near future. You are so cute and honest about your opinions without disrespecting the brand. Continue your vlogs! You have a gift 💝

Lol watching this as I eat the pork and ginger dumplings and the stir fry veggies!
Congrats on the release of part 2! The amount of preparation and work in these long videos must be insane! I really enjoyed watching it, thank you !
I actually added a bit Bibigo’s Bulgogi sauce to the beef less Bulgogi and it made it better. The texture is gone for me since I’m used to seitan, but I feel like the smoke flavor is too strong.
hi maddy!!!! loved this vid + how receptive/kind you were about comments on pt1; this might be rando, but i was wondering where u got your cardigan & top in the first-rating [when you were rating japchae/bulgogi/kimchi-tofu-stew]? tysm!!
ahhh part 2 must've taken so much effort to film/edit!! and yeah the taiwanese scallion pancakes don't have enough green onion flavor, but they're still pretty good. i think i'll try the japchae 🙂

Hello Maddy !! I love your videos so much they’re very relaxing 😌 As a vegan I really appreciate you try out some vegan food !😊unfortunately I don’t live in America so no trader joes for me :( Much love from Europe 💕
You look so cute with your glasses🌹💜
That beefless bulgogi looks very nice. The pa jeon's did indeed look quite different from others I've seen in videos like these.
Nice to see my old TJs in Brooklyn. 🙂
LMAOOO i did the exact same thing when i was at TJs in february looking at the valentines wool ball garland!!! ❤
Great informative video ty! Just wondering if you have a favorite prepared kimchi you can suggest that I can buy?
Glad you liked the seitan bulgogi more pan fried (I mean, of course it would be fine if you didn't, but I don't want anybody to suffer yucky food). I think a little browning makes a huge difference with seitan!
Now you need a comparison with 1:1 frozen food from H-mart - there's like 100 locations now right - so like 1/3rd to 1/4th the number of locations of Trader Joes, though I think they mostly have a similar distribution throughout the US. Would also be interesting to compare to a milgogi/seitan bulgogi from scratch, though milgogi seems more like eomuk than beef.
This is the content we need; TJ’s is so hit or miss

Totally agree with you, the gochujang at TJ is decent! I use it a lot since I dont really use that much gochujang in my cooking (its the perfect amount for me to use before it hits the expiration) 😂

@@CafeMaddy i just use it to marinate any kind of protein for baking. Most of the time i use gochujang, soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, garlic and a bit of vinegar. I use skin on chicken thighs the most since the skin gets all crispy and its soooo good for a quick easy meal :3 or sometimes Ive used it for making sauces for noodles or dipping veggies in. I don't get to cook that much at home though since I do a lot of commuting to and back from work
I like the bulgogi a lot. I’ll try your method with bell pepper next. The kimchi soup wasn’t palatable. The frozen glass noodles is good for a quick meal.I also like the frozen toboki.
Wow , I love korean scallion pancake, is it crispy?
I agree, I've tried the kimchi tofu soup and it was so bad I couldn't finish eating it!
I’m happy you gave the Beefless Bulgogi another shot ヽ(´▽`)/ Hope you’re stayin’ alive as best you can, Maddy. Something I forgot to mention last time to anyone that wants to try it is that you can completely skip using oil if you have a good nonstick pan.
Trader Joe chicken soup dumplings are the BEST!!!!!!
목소리 넘 사랑스러워요 ❤❤
I enjoyed both of your Trader Joe’s Korean foods reviews. You answered my question about the TJ kimchi tofu soup. It’s been in my freezer for a couple months and I’ve been scared to try it 😂 I’ve tried the TJ pa jeon…it’s okay. I like the pa jeon I make. Good to know the vegan bulgogi is better pan fried. We have vegan and pescatarian family members so, this would be a good menu alternative for them. I’m partial to my own jap chae but, I would try the TJ version on a lark.
I don't know if this is correct way to do it, but i LOVE the Meatless Bulgogi after frying in a pan tossed with a thinned out (or full strength!) gochujang !! It takes this Meatless version to a whole other level!! way better.
Let's gooo!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video
As a novice to Korean food, the confirmation that the kimchi isn't great feels great. (Watched the kimchi video, so I know what to get when I finally finish what I do have)
Which air fryer do you have? I like how small it is.
where’s your shrug from? it’s super cute!
I like having the meatless bulogi in the freezer for when I do not want to make it myself. I usually airfry it though. However it is so much better like anything homemade! I have seen the meat version you tried but it is too expensive for me.
You have to consider that this is vegan so for vegans, this bulgogi is pretty good, and probably as close as we can get without actually eating meat. The bell peppers are a good addition but I find shiitake mushrooms also good. Together they also work well for ssam, using perilla, red leaf lettuce and soukkat (crown daisies) -- and of course, ssamjang!
Thanks for this video. Great info! If she’s still there….there’s a lovely woman who makes pajeon at the park slope farmers market on sundays that are great. 😊
As a korean I always feel guilty for buying from trader joe's instead of korean stores (like the pajeon!) but then I remind myself that korean food isn't going to be "in" forever and to enjoy the time when I can save myself a trip hahah

It would be nice if you showed us around Korea town in la or nyc 😮 definitely a place I’m interested in seeing from the eyes of a Korean person
That cutlery is very cute! Do you remember where you got it from? ^-^
Honestly I’m not surprised that the kimchi tofu soup was bad just because of the colors. I’m still going to try it just to see c:
Hello, What tripod do you use to record the zenith planes? Thanks
Hey Maddie, I really enjoy watching your videos here on KZread. And just to think, I found you via a video short here while looking up easy Korean recipes. Anyway, you haven't posted a video in a while, and I know that the breakup was hard for you. (I just went through a breakup of a marriage to my husband of 12 years, and I know the pain ) I think you are so sweet and I hope that you are doing alright. Please let us know as we care about you!
You look great in glasses!
noo I loved the kimchi tofu soup!! I would urge anyone, especially vegetarians and vegans, to try it
Lol duuuude, I made the same mistake when I bought my rice cakes and I feel you on that "extra chewy" texture. My jaw was TIRED. Their gochujang is my favorite. I even bought from authentic asian stores but I like there's better. and its gluten free! I just wish the tub was bigger.
Trader Joe's just came out with a new gochujan sauce in a bottle. I wonder if that's good as well
What a cute outfit tho. Also korean food 🥲

Anyone else think the Taiwanese scallion pancakes were kinda crap? I'm so grateful for this review as I am very not Korean and need a frame of reference when I eat these products. I'd love to see what a normal everyday meal would be in Korea. I feel that with most foreign places, the things we see in America are more special occasion meals than what people eat on a normal day and I'm curious about what is real. Sending all my love and wishing you all the best on your continued heart-healing journey.
I returned the kimchi tofu soup. It was terrible. Glad you agreed.
I put a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of the hotteok and drizzle caramel on top 🤌🤌
The screenshot page is such a great idea! Please watermark it somehow in the future - maybe with your logo in between the pictures! You worked too hard to give that away with no credit.
i laughed and then cringed when Maddy picked up the kimchi soup because I had already tried this. lol
The taiwanese green onion pancakes are okkkk. The texture is fine but there's not enough green onion 😢

I am once again Vindicated by your reviews! I HATED the kimchi tofu stew! I was so mad about it! And I ALWAYS enhance the japchae, but it's a freezer staple when I see it! I add a little GOOD soy sauce (a smidgen!) and sesame oil and a fried egg, at the very least. Easy to do and always yummy! I also agree that the TJs pa jeon is a bit too battered. I couldn't get into it, but I would say RUN AND GET THE TAIWANESE STYLE ONES! They are so easy and quick and taste pretty close! I agree that korean pa jeon is much easier and tastier made fresh!
You look like a professional food critic with your notebook and glasses 😂
