As a d-guy myself, this PK makes a lot of sense to me. However, I am not sure if you will see widespread adoption of it for two simple reasons: 1) the foundation of the formation is how willing the two crease defenders are to soak shots and not flinch; and 2) it requires both the defenders and goalie to play their angles almost perfectly. The goalie in particular needs to rely on sound positioning since the defense are essentially acting as a screen. I can see low shots being potentially effective for shooters like Dickson and O'Keefe.

Good points. The other downside of this is exactly what you’re alluding to: soaking shots. I think once someone soaks a 100mph shot to their kneecap there might be some reconfiguration (lol). Appreciate your input man! Thanks for your thoughts

Good point. This really does choke off the offence and mitigate against powerplay advantages. I'm inclined to think that this isn't a medium term problem though, offences will have to adapt and overcome. Unless this becomes the only defensive strategy and it makes games boring for 2 minutes at a time, I also don't think the league will have any interest in unnecessarily complicating the game.

yeah unless it becomes a problem don't fix it. I'm also interested if someone can adapt and find a way around this or if it really is "cheap"

@@TLSH12 and @copperlax I agree with both of you. I personally like this setup and I’m always a huge fan of new innovations in the game. Maybe cheap wasn’t the best word to describe it. Unless it becomes a big problem I’d have to agree that it will be up to the coaching staff / offense to figure out how to consistently beat it. Thank you both for your comments btw!

I think this shouldn’t be illegal. Its just some new ish strats that Buffalos showed in playoffs. A trick up there sleeves per say, soon the league will find a way to break this setup. And long term wise bandits wont use this strat cuz its an expense on the athletes body.

I’m picturing PK defenders getting road hockey goalie pads put onto them by their teammates as soon as a penalty is called. Lol. Thanks Steve S

As a huge Rock fan I don't see an issue. Guys like Schrieber, Small, Craig, Rogers, Keogh (at the time) etc should be able to adapt. They did not in this series and deservedly lost badly.

Fans opinions are just as valuable, if not, more valuable than players. With no fans, there is no league. Great point!

You’re asking an inherently flawed question bc the entire game of box lacrosse is stupid AF with the goalie taking up so much space since it’s based off hockey goalie who have a 97% save percentage. Any time you can do something 97% it requires zero skill. NFL moved the extra point back a few years SBF they realized this.

I read some study where it was determined that both box and field lacrosse had optimally meaningful goals. (As opposed to soccer where a single goal can determine a game or bball where individual baskets are inconsequential.) So I'd say box is doing something right. As far as box goalie not requiring skill, anybody who has ever played a minute of box would know that is an inane thing to say.

Just let Mr. Huckfin soak 60 + 90mph shots, with padding on mind you. I'm sure he'll realize the skill you need to be an NLL goalie, lol.
