I’ve noticed that the presenting producer really sets the tone for the quality of the video. In this case, the disconnect is significant. Maybe try this one again with someone who knows the genre?

Punk is short for punk rock 🤷‍♂. If you want to be picky about what "rock" is, most of these don't count. There's pop punk, nu metal, hard rock, new wave, etc. At least Basket Case is not as bad as Twenty One Pilot's Ride which is hip hop or alternative rap. You also have Roam and I'm Just Ken which are pretty firmly pop sub genres.

They took a very liberal definition of rock, including a lot of pop rock and alternative rock which starts to blur the lines of what rock and what's more pop, hip hop or rap. I agree that I wouldn't think of most of these songs if people asked me for iconic rock songs.

@@thepsychomagus if you look at its composition, you can argue it's pop rock. You even have Slash playing guitar, Wolfgang Van Halen (son of Eddie) also playing guitar AND Josh Freese playing drums. Another way to look at it, is that it's a power ballad. Anyway, I wouldn't consider it iconic and same with a lot of other songs. Regardless of genre.

It was initially characterised by musical experimentation and drug related or anti establishment. Rock is a whole genre, rock and roll is a type of rock. Arguably, green day, the darkness and paramore are iconic. Subgroups count as garage rock, alternative, acid rock, heavy metal. They are sub groups, rock is not that’s a genre
