TRX4 Build Part 3! More Mods

Back for more with the Traxxas TRX4 build, this time we’ve added some brushless power for smoother low end as well as the hot racing battery relocation kit to move some weight forward. We run it on a few of the same lines and new ones to test the trucks capabilities!

    I bought a used SCX10II that came with canyon trails on some weighted plastic wheels and it crawled fantastic. Replaced them with Pro Line Krawlers in predator compound on aluminum wheels and dual stage foams and it never had as good performance as it did with the canyon trails. Plus, I love the slightly shorter and wider look of the CT tires. They’re a great compound too.

    that is insane, because i get the exact opposite, my performance was VASTLY boosted by changing from the canyon trails.

    One more vote to do the Canyon tire mod. Definitely works from my experience. Do the heavier wheel mod next. (and good luck getting the glued Canyons off....not easy). As for the shock tower mod, only reason I did the fronts only on mine was to get a stiffer pan hard chassis mount which is part of the left front shock tower. Other then that, the aluminum ones just look prettier and and add more weight up high.

    Need to keep the front shocks from unloading. Need to do the pen spring mod. I use a whole 1-1/8 pen spring in those stock shocks. Works awesome a little bit of brass. Treal brass knuckles are great for trx4. Everything on that truck is heavy. Heavy transmission now you installed a hobbywing which is really heavy. You need a bit of weight down on the axles to counter

    Even from the first climb, ya can see how well that motor delivers slow-speed, very nice indeed! I never knew those motors existed, just found them online after hearing you mention it. I've liked my stock tyres too. Where I live in the UK unfortunately I don't have large expanses of rocky terrain to hand like where you are. It's more grassy/dirt/mud, and some exposed rock and slate here n there where I live, so my tyres are lasting well. I'd certainly go for heavier wheels, even if it's just the front. It's the first mod I ever did to my first crawler several years ago, and I've always repeated that in the trucks which followed over the years. I can see why front-end weight is needed in order to climb, though the flip side I found when doing local trials is having weight to the rear aswell, preventing that flip over when going downhill, some of my trail rc's have their battery mid or towards the rear, a clear difference when going down off an obstacle, though I still like to maintain a bias to the front. I've liked your approach to the truck, taking a stock truck and seeing what simple mods can be done to achieve some sort of a gain, I like doing that too.

    Good changes, truck is handling well! For tires I was thinking Pro-Line BFG Krawlers , Flat Iron or even Interco Super Swamper. Also, more and more people using the Ottsix Voodoo KLRs. As for upgrades, I'd like to see you try the shock towers, we know the benefit of heavier wheels so, I would like to see if an adjustable mount will have a big change. Great video!

  • @robinhisloprh

    I'm enjoying following your progress with the truck. I also have a rtr TRX4 Sport and have flipped the bumpers, raised the sliders, modded the tyres and removed the original battery tray. I run smaller 1500mah batteries and tried them up front, but now I run the battery on the side rail after moving the radio box to the same side as the esc. As for your next upgrades, I would be interested in heavier wheels with the original tyres, but modding them, as others have suggested. Look forward to seeing the result of whichever route you decide to take.

    Enjoying what you've done so far. I made a better approach angle by using the rear bumper mount turned upside down and backwards with some minor cutting, then I was able too shorten up front bumper and move it closer to the body. You could remove the lip that hangs down from the fender flares so your tires don't rub as much or remove them all together. I'm not sure how yours is but my factory mounts are already as low as they can go, so I'm interested in seeing what you are going to do. I did aluminum rims and Proline Hyrax Predator tires, works good but needs dual stage foam's. No brass on mine. Still running the Traxxas motor and ESC in crawler mode.

  • @SuperSTEIN24
    @SuperSTEIN242 жыл бұрын

    Definitely new wheels to get weight down low. I’ve got brass on mine to keep it lower. Not a crazy amount but a bit(some people go nuts with brass on the trx4s). Helps it descend better too since weight isn’t as high. I also thought removing the small portion of the center lugs helped traction as well. Personally I prefer an aftermarket tire, but it’s a very small difference over stock tires going to prolines and you’ll only notice on certain terrain. If your rig gets heavier you’ll need dual stage foams tho. The stock foams break down super fast. You can get the stock tires off the rim by baking or boiling them.

    Nice aggressive lines. Man I have multiple questions & conundrum’s. First is it worth getting & TRX with 2spd. versus the sport model you have?And how much would’ve it helped on the lines you took. I’m thinking it would not make a difference because the other gear is for going faster & the Sport is probably in low full time. Next your comments on tires hit home. I was out today on a steep rock slab & had my Sendero h.d. & my Carisma Coyote 2.1 and ran both up the slab & I witnessed first hand the less expensive Coyote out crawl the Sendero to the point I’m rethinking a lot of stuff. The Coyote has been described as nothing special & that maybe true but I can tell you this it’s performance as a crawler is impressive. I’m starting to think more & more it’s the tires that make all the difference & not so much the RC to a certain point. And to add a twist the wheels & tires on the Coyote where the stock wheel from the Sendero. I purchased red metal bead locks with some sort of sticky tires & the original wheels on the Coyote 2.1 were way to small & didn’t provide enough clearance so I put them on it. It’s the only upgrade other then the programmable esc I purchased when. The tires are General’s & are super nice & grippy. It’s crazy that the Coyote out crawls the Sendero. I’m blown away. What’s your take on this? Also where is your go pro mounted? Now that I’ve been going out & filming I have whole new respect for filming because it’s not that easy to produce good videos so hats off to you. Enjoyed the video though & keep up the good work.
