Featured in TIR Episode 336 (Part 2 of 2): Singer and composer Jill Jones, best known for her work with Prince and associated artists from the early 1980s through early 1990s. Starting out singing background for Teena Marie, in 1982 she began recording and touring with Prince for the 1999 album and shows. Also appearing in Prince’s “Purple Rain” and “Graffiti Bridge” movies, she released her fantastic self-titled debut album in 1987.
Jones was involved with several projects in the 1990s, some of which went unreleased. Since the early 2000s, she has put out two acoustic-oriented rock albums and another of electronic dance music. Earlier this year, she unveiled the peppy pop-dance track, “Unattainable Love,” and later other tracks from her wonderful new album London Sessions, which dropped April 16.

Again thanks to Jill Jones for her honesty and transparency. That Debbie Allen story really got me! The women that are being judgmental and leaving nasty comments are really pathetic and again need to get a fu*king life!

Jill is putting it out there on the real. As much as we loved Prince and admired his talent. We all know Prince was a player. Even more like a little pimp. Seems everyone that worked with prince has a two-sided story to tell about him. On one end, they were so honored to have been a part of his entourage. Admired his talents. On the downside, he wasn't 100 with them all the time. Look how things went with Jimmy and Terry. Morris Day. Vanity. The revolution. Dez Dickerson. Sheila E. The family. Mazaratie. Jill. His wives. Apollonia. Susan and Brenda. His countless other girlfriends. His band members .His bodyguard big chick. etc etc. They all seem to tell a familiar story about Prince. They loved him, admired his talent. Honored to have been a part of his world at one time. But in the end they didn't think he treated them the way they thought he should have treated them. Hay Prince was a Prince. He really was that Gemini guy he said he was.

@@cd6243 It would be a public service becasue all the memories will disappear if she doesn't. I think to know the truth about someone who is now legendary is important. I would hate to see a biopic about him where they make things up instead of having details from the people who were actually there.

I was 13 and couldn’t believe Prince ignored her in Purple Rain and chose Apples- the one that looked like his mother instead of a girlfriend😂 Even worse in GB where he went after Aura, the most annoyingly boring character ever. Jill was the star of the 1999 video. She had this Marilyn Monroe look. I remember my friends thinking the exact same.

Thanks Jill, I love your song and video "Miss you " can't wait to hear your new cd. I'm curious, you were there, when prince started getting millions of dollars at a time for his releases, albums, and singles, 83' especially 84' and so on. Wondering what he thought about "here's all this money for doing what I love." What did he say or buy? obviously plane tickets as you said, is a big expense. He always needed some people around him. But just a few years earlier he didn't have any money or a car. Maybe he thought I can't stop I need to make more money. I have two thoughts about prince. I wish he gave more credit to the ones that deserved it, and feel sorry for the girls that he took their youth. The other thought is he's like a romance novel (book) that's hard to put down, with all the ballads. Was he generous? I've heard he bought " his " girls pretty dresses. Maybe that was a way of saying "she's mine ".

Of course you will end up with tears if you are sleeping with a man that had a girl or girls and you knew it but you still wanted him and his world, what did she expect? And she should just speak for herself. Prince just wasn’t that into Jill and she is scorn that he wasn’t. Vanity in her book said Prince was the only man she really loved, I do realize Prince had deeper relationships with some of the women than Jill. Not sure why she didn’t move on and kept hoping for more with him, when he had it with others. Does she take accountability for her life and choices ? Prince didn’t drug anyone and the relations were reciprocal

@@FunknstuffNet Under what spell? Plenty women left and moved on, even the ones that he was actually into. He was an attractive rockstar and they wanted to sleep with him and be in his world. Story as old as time. She made decisions that she does not take responsibility for. He did nothing criminal to her, he had lots of women and she joined in. It’s not fair to make him all bad and herself all good

@@angelhampton6293 she is the only person for 80s that complain about not being promoted. All the other protégés were. I wonder if her way of being made it hard for her. She had talked about being cold and having a temper. I wonder was it more to it out of Prince control? She can sing but not everyone has presence or can command a stage or he would want to be around on tour. Shelia has a good vocal tone but not much of a singer but can command a stage, she is likeable, she can dance, and can play her instrument well. Jill doesn’t come off well, seems volatile and self consumed . However he probably should’ve told her to get signed with someone else but I bet she would have been mad if he did that, but probably should’ve have. And her voice is not comparable to Tamar, Rosie, Bonnie , Mavis Staples, Chaka, Judith Hill…she can definitely sing but not the robustness of those voices
