To give context, Harrenhal was burned by Aegon the Conqueror and Balerion. That is why it looks so run down. Still super important geographical place but a shadow of what it once was.

What dani is refering to is... in the books Beric Dondarion gave his life to bring back Caetlyn stark, she then becomes lady stoneheart and start hunting every Freys and Bolton guilty of the red wedding.

Herrenhall is most likely curse due to herren the black using weirwood trees to build his castle after he cut them down. And remember the weirwood trees are the connection to the old gods, and the old gods are what people in north like the Starks pray to. And that tree that Daemon was in front of was a weirwood tree, you can tell by it's reddish leafs. And I just love how they(the showrunners) just keep dropping cameos for the Blackwoods in this show. They did it in season 1 and then again showing it here for the battle of the burning mill, that battle is very important because it move this war from ravens to actual battles. The Blackwoods are a interesting cool house with such a rich history in westeros.

"Crispy Cole is annoying because he pretends to be honorable when he's not that's why we hate him." Meanwhile Rhaenys pretends to be peaceful and wise constantly talking about how the men want bloodshed but not her, when she literally has the highest single kill count of any person on the show right now. Don't forget about her crushing hundreds of smallfolk with her dragon just so she could go up to active usurpers and smile at them. She could have at least made their deaths mean something by ending the war right there and killing the usurpers. I honestly just find the selective hypocrisy argument so funny that people who support team black seem to give the most. Both team black and green are full of spoiled aristocrats and awful people. It's a shame there's no peasant rebellion to root for.

They're highlighting how some houses with existing ancient feuds like the Brackens and Blackwoods are using the Targaryen power struggle as an excuse to re-ignite their centuries-old conflicts. This war, which really just boils down to some very emotional members of one family not being able to stop fighting and express their emotions in a healthy way, is taking on a life of its own. Like Rhaenys and Simon Strong were saying, as this conflict continues the original cause for it (Aegon usurping Rhaenyra's throne) will become less important to the people fighting it than their own desires for power, revenge, and financial gain. Also a small detail, that tavern maid that was getting harassed @18:48 is Dyana, the servant maid that Aegon assaulted in the Red Keep last season. She was let go from working there after Alicent had her drink moon tea aka the Plan-B tea and is now working in a tavern. The look on her face is kinda heartbreaking because you can imagine how getting harassed like that would be terrible in the first place, but for a SA victim like her it must be all the more traumatizing. Again it just goes to show that while all these powerful nobles are pursuing whatever it is they want, it's the smallfolk like her who have to pay the highest price.

About the visions, I want to bring attention to one nobody talks about, cause everyone likes saying alicent fucked up, and its all her fault. This will be long, sorry. One specific vision weve been told of could have avoided this whole conflict, if it had been followed. And im thankful the person who saw the vision did not follow through on it, because then we would not get this amazing story :D Everyone seems to fully believe in Aegon's prophecy, which came to him in a dream and told him to go and conquer Westeros, because the world would need Targaryens and their dragons to survive the long night. People also point out how you need to listen to Helena when she speaks, because she is a "Dreamer" and have visions about a lot of stuff. Like when she says Aemond would get a dragon but loose an eye. Viserys spoke of "dreamers" in the Targaryen line, people who could see visions of the future. In the books there are many prophecies mentioned within the bloodline of the Targaryens, like Dany receiving a vision showing the red wedding as an example, which was cut from GoT. The reason I bring this up is that everyone seems to forget about the vision that we have been told of twice in season 1 of House of the Dragon. The vision I talk about is Viserys' vision. Nobody in the fandom talks about it at all, at least not from what ive been able to find. Which kind shocks me. The song of ice and fire is brought up both in the world HotD and by fans. Why is this? (Aside from fans knowing its true thanks to GoT, and the charecters in HotD having a dagger with the song of fire and ice written down on it) I think it might be because Viserys did not do as the vision told him, unlike Aegon the conqueror. Aegon went and conquered westeros because his visions showed him it needed to be done. Viserys' vision told him he needed to put a son on the throne because all the dragons would roar as one when he did this. In other words, there would be no civil war between dragons if he had named Aegon heir. We are told this in episode 1 and episode 3 of season 1 by Visyrys himself. The vision is saying how civil war would be avoided, and the dragons saved, so there would be plenty for when the long night arrives. A civil war will result in the beginning of the end of dragons, and we know this because they aren't around anymore in GoT, not until Dany wakes 3 of them anyway. Just think about how difrently thing could have gone had Viserys followed his vision isntead of his heart. Viserys wanted so badly to believe he was a "dreamer", like we know Helena and Aegon the conqueror is/where. And he actually was, the only difference between him and the Conqueror was that he did not follow through on what his vision told him to do. This was because of the grief he felt at the loss of his beloved wife, who died in his pursuit for a male heir. This made him question the vision, and ultimately let him to not name Aegon as the heir, despite the vision telling him to. I kind of feel like im the only one who remembers this vision, so just wanted to throw it into the discussion. As i feel like its an important piece that has been overlooked by fans:) So it was actually Visserys that fucked up. And if Rhaynera started talking about visions in this scene, I don't think it would be far fetched for alicent, the mother to a dreamer and wife to one, to remember the day Viserys told her of his vision (Episode 3). Which she would probably have thrown straight back in Rhaenyras face. And I doubt Rhaenyra would think this vision to be real. And sadly coninflict was unavoidable, Agon would have been used to start a revolution no matter what, as he is a legitimate male heir. And in the society of westeros those are the ones who inherit things, Women only inherit things if there are no close male relatives. Not saying this is right, but its the way things are in this world. So war was unavoidable as long as Rhaenyra was still named heir. Wether either side wanted it or not, it would happen eventually. It also didn't help that Rhaenyra was not well liked by the lords or politically competent throughout most of season 1 (insulting a lady at agons birthday with a snarky comment instead of addressing the real concern this lady brought up). Add to that her bastard heirs would guarantee war would happen when talking about succesion after Rhaenyra, if no war somehow didn't brake out during Rhaenyras life as the heir and successor. Cause bastards in game of thrones society are not supposed to inherit things. Again, not saying this is right but its the way things are in this world:) (Sorry for any gramatical mistakes, english is not my first language. And sorry for the essay)

TLDR: Viserys had a vision/prophecy we've been told of twice that told him how to avoid civil war after his death. That vision being he needed to put a son on the throne so all the dragons would roar as one. But due to grief he didn't follow it. And now we have a war that marks the beginning of the end of the targaryans and their dragons. In other words, Aegon the Qoncurers vision has now been compromised thanks to Viserys not following his prophecy.

Cole and Daemon appear to be written has reflections of each other, like they are the same and at the same time reversed. While Daemon is charming, with a silver tongue Cole isnt any of that We first see them together in the jousting match currently the best to warriors with Alicent admiring Cole and Rhaenyras admiring Daemon, Cole wins. Daemon who vigorously spends his time at a brothel but could not get it up with Rhaenyra, but Cole the man who abstains from sex is seduced and sleeps with her and commits his greatest sin. Rhaenyra who has just seduced this man who now feels like he had tarnished everything he stood for by s told I won’t marry you but you can be side D*ck. s1e5 starts with Daemon killing Rhea and ends with Cole killing Joffrey both of which were action inspired by the worry of rumors Daemon wanted to inherit the land from his wife in fear Viserys would banish him because of the Rumors with Rhaenyras and Cole because he didn’t want the truth of want happen Rhaenyras to get out. They both are unhappy with the lives they are living Daemon marrying Lanae and having his own land to rule but still feeling cheating out of the throne by Viserys and Rhaenyras, Cole feeling like a fraud and has had his honor stolen while Rhaenyras obviously has broken rules and has had nothing happen to her. Daemon cuts off Vaemonds head the commander of House Velaryon fleet in defense of Rhaenyras honor and legitimacy of her sons, Cole smashes Lord Beesbury head killing him because he claims he disrespected Alicent in the discussion of legitimacy of who belongs on the throne. Skip ahead to season 2 although Alicent and Cole have their issue we see them intimate while the married couple Daemon and Rhaenyras can barely stand each other and we get the scene of Daemon sending would of his goons and hiring a rat catchers to do get Aemond but instead that got a Jaehaerys killed the Rat catchers killed and there Cole who sends Arryk to kill Rhaenyras which’s gets Erryk killed. Difference between them I see is Cole walks around constantly feeling guilty So he over compensates and doubles down trying to do what he believe to be the right thing, while Daemon hasn’t felt guilty about his actions for the most part but rather sees them as necessary only apparently feeling guilty after he had a child beheaded, which we still don’t know if that’s what it represents. Cole is the commoner who climbs his way up and Daemon is the one born with a silver spoon. And it kind of like how it has been through time the act that when the “powerful” people do shady things those things are forgotten and overlooked while the average person is condemned for that same action. Most fans see all of Daemons atrocities, but they see him as so charming so cool, so sexy. While Cole has a similar résumé and it’s all he is the worst , piece of shit.

I mean if we were to compere daemon and criston. Daemon is just much more evil but everyone likes him more because he is more interesting i guess.

Most blame Alicent and Otto. Some say Rhaenyra and Daemon would be terrible rulers. But the person I blame the most was Viserys. As soon as he decided to remarry and have children, especially sons. A war of succession was inevitable. I view the Dance of the Dragons as a tragedy.

Either say that Rheanyra was a fail safe so Daemon wouldn't get the throne and make Aegon #1 heir, OR change the laws and customs surrounding women inheriting power so Rheanyra can get the throne. He has 20 years to do this. I do not buy for one second that nothing could be done after Aegon was born.

I've heard that reasoning as well, ladies, with the discourse between Daemon and Cole. Daemon, being more upfront about who is, might play a factor in why he is more likable. That's a fair take. But I think it simply boils down to Daemon being much cooler. He is a prince from House Targaryen who wields the Valyrian blade Dark Sister, and he also rides the fierce dragon Caraxes. Those factors alone make him much cooler than Cole.

The Blackwoods won, the Blackwood at the begging of the episode was Davos Blackwood, a show only character who could possibly take on the role of a certain Blackwood from the books, Samwell Blackwood was the lord of Raventree Hall. The Bracken shown was Aeron Bracken who is also a show only character and the nephew of Lord Amos Bracken. The Blackwoods ambushed the Bracken host next to the mill you saw in the background which lead to the battle of the burning mill. The Blackwoods won the battle forcing the Brackens to return to Stone Hedge, their castle, where in the books they find Daemon waiting atop Caraxes. This obviously didn't happen in the show but the result is the same, the Brackens lose and swear fealty to Rhaenyra and that is the end of Aegons support in the Riverlands. Also the reason Harrenhal is so empty is because its so monstrously large it is basically impossible for any one house to fully garrison it.

@@LeisureKingLou-jc2re No the Blackwoods win, Lord Amos dies and Stone Hedge is surrendered and the Brackens kneel they just don’t mention it because the show didn’t deem the battle very important even though it’s the first victory for the blacks. The Riverlands are all but the blacks now, the only person left who supports Aegon is Lord Grover Tully but no one, including his heir listens to him. Daemon will probably meet Elmo Tully next episode who will explain that he has the Riverlands support but they can’t declare for Rhaenyra until Grover dies which given his age and current state won’t be long.

@@pitoseavy4523 Because Samwell Blackwood did die, he was killed by Amos Bracken who then was killed by Samwell's 16 year old sister Alyssa "Black Aly" Blackwood with a weirwood bow. After Amos death his bastard brother Raylon Rivers sounded the retreat and the Bracken army made for Stone Hedge, but by the time they had arrived the castle had been taken by the Blackwoods. They then surrendered. Criston wants to enlist their help because they still have men and would be bitter after their lose. This is all history that is easy to find if you just do the research.

House of the Dragon is the perfect comparison to Demon Slayer you know people are going to die, you just don't know when.

Cole is paying for being the most grounded character in the whole show, a commoner ascended bc of being good at combat and war, a man with his virtues and vices. Bad for him not having white hair and being a prince for every woman to justify his questionable actions and caring for what he thinks...

@@bloodworkdc2106 I don't even like Daemon all that much, he's a horrible person. But he's a far more interesting and compelling character than cole is. Ser Criston was more likeable in the books but as far as the show goes, like I said, it's hard to find anything redeeming about his character.
