From the point Schlatt was almost killed onwards this legit felt like a movie. The leader of a small group of survivors is shot and nearly dies and they all risk their lives trying to find supplies to save him, only for everyone except him to be killed when a storm hits and they run into the wrong person. It legit worked out in such a perfectly tragic way, it almost feels scripted lol.

God. This was genuinely a masterpiece. The big ballers, the rush for the hospital, the climactic shootout, the lone survivor too distraught to live...THIS is what real zombie apocalypses are. The dread. The fear. The unlikely friendships, cut down in an instant. Godspeed Slim Jim Meat Industry, Terrence, and Squibbledy(?). You were all the good the world had left.

It is astonishing to me that there aren't nearly as many zombie movies that are to this level / about the human condition, the logistics, the distrust, the climactic shootout, and specifically the dread. Even then, the majority of them that are like this are shows. Too obsessed with "the how" and "the why" of the apocalypse with complete disregard for what it would actually feel like long term. Where do you sleep? Do you try to socialize or play it alone? Do you have a plan? Your gun jammed and you hear your friend that you thought was already dead continue fighting, do you swap to your pistol that only has 3 rounds or do you take the necessary time to clear the jam and pray they stay alive long enough? These are very intriguing concepts that get left out to dry way too often so it's nice to see them executed here. I'm saying this as if it's scripted but that just makes it worse if non-scripted gameplay of a modded release of an arma 2 mod can be infinitely more entertaining than most movies of the same genre

The really cool part about Terrence's death is that it almost feels foreshadowed, in every crucial moment his gun jammed but he always lived through it somehow, and of course the reason he dies is because his gun jams at a crucial gunfight causing his death, feels like a story the whole way through, awesome improv and characters, props to slim squiter and Terrence for being cool as hell

Goddamn I know I'm late to the party but this is a cinematic masterpiece. The subtle details are really what make the story so engaging and captivating, like at the end when they are all going to commit group suicide and the guy that doesn't know how to count shoots himself at the wrong number was perfect. The way the main characters interact with each other is so immersive it's like they've known each other for years. each character including pops has their own unique personality. The chapter where Pops is brutally injured and everything is greyscale is so tense and atmospheric and I couldn't help but grab my seat every time shit started to hit the fan. The ending is genuinely amazing and really gets you at the edge of your seat. The entire time I wanted to think that maybe Squieter and Slim were still alive but deep down, I knew. I think that is what truly made this story so heart-wrenching and inspiring.

These DayZ streams are some of the very best stuff you've ever done, imo, but somehow I completely missed watching this one last year. Just totally passed me by, despite being something I looked forward to so much after the initial streams. That being said, the Slim Jim run literally felt like a movie. Sometime earlier into the stream you said, "I prefer to craft my own narrative," and then the rest of the stream literally proved why that element of the game is so cool by featuring communal comradery between distinct characters, unexpected conflicts, a gruelling escort mission where the once-great-leader falls gravely ill, and finally a downright morosely tragic finish. That classic run with Dapper was already genuinely narrative but this ended up being on a whole other level. On paper, this shit literally reads like ideas for a script. Really really hoping you keep these up, even if it's just a rarity each year. I just wish it were easier to access the full unedited VOD as well; I love watching the quiet nothing sections you understandably cut out from the final KZread cut.

“I’ve always had a silver tongue, people would tell me. Spent the last twenty years of this apocalypse using my skills to manipulate others into doing my dirty work. I’ve run with a lot of gangs, both good and bad. I’ve lied, cheated and murdered my way through these wastes. I did whatever it took to survive… but then things changed. First it was Slim. Middle-aged fella that kept his hair all white and spiky. I thought it made him stick out too much, he thought it made him look mature. Then there was Terrance. So strong. So capable of taking the lead, yet he never tried my authority. Then… Squirter. He was a laugh. Everyone needs a Squirter… It started out like any other con. Lured the three into a false alliance with me. I was just gonna use them to get through the noisy part of town and maybe snag some of their goods once night hit… but then I got injured. A bullet just barely reaching deep enough to graze the side of my skull. Just the wound itself would’ve left a nasty scar, but it wouldn’t have been enough to kill me. No, that was taken care of by the infection that followed. Day after day I got sicker and sicker, but the boys never gave up on me. They towed me from building to building, getting us to the hospital as quickly as they could. They saved my life on many occasions. It was right around this time when things started to change. As I faced what could potentially be my last few days, I reflected back on my life. The choices I’d made- the people I’d manipulated. Sure, many of them had been evil…but many had been just like these guys. Against all odds, we got the medication I needed, and things were looking up. The fever broke almost immediately, and I was able to stand on my own two feet without much issue. Not only had my physical condition improved, but my outlet on life had been altered as well. Maybe I really could be a Big Baller. …and then the attack happened… We were hunkered down in a house while I finished recovering, when gunfire broke out just outside the front door. I was just about to grab my gun and go help when I heard Slim scream for me to stay back. While I had changed my ways, I knew they’d try to protect me if I got in the way, so I decided to hang back with Terrance. What a mistake that was. By the end of the night, everyone but I had fallen. For the first time in my life, I had people I would truly fight for…and now they were gone. Was it a punishment? Had god decided it was too late for me? It didn’t matter the reason; all I knew was, I was alone again. So here I am, beaten and broken, with a barrel pointed at my own head. Even at the very end, I still managed to convince some young’ns that ending their lives with me would be better than continuing on. Better than doing whatever it takes to survive. Better than fighting off the wretched horrors outside. Better than gaining a real family, only to lose them… But hey, like I said, I’ve always had a silver tongue….” 💥

1:35:25 He told Terence that one day he might tell him what “Pops” meant. He never got the chance to hear it, but it got out there in the end. Long live Terence, Squeeter, Slim Jim Meat Industry, and most importantly Popsicle stick “Pops” Schlatt, if not in life, in memory
That ending was absolutely fucking heartbreaking, rest in piece slim Jim, Terrence, and squeeter. True friends

I just wish it were easier to access the full unedited VOD as well; I love watching the quiet nothing sections you understandably cut out from the final KZread cut.
this felt like a whole fucking film. I didnt know how to react for the ending it was so amazing. This is some of the best shit i have watched in a while

1:53:08 They begin the journey towards the hospital… the quick and heroic action of the ballers that saved pops and allowed him to make it to the end
I don't think i've ever had this much fun watching a vod before, love how this became a story about found family and being ballers, good stuff
This literally felt like a movie all the way through. I'm so glad schlatt got vengeance at the end. I literally was so pumped just watching this.
“Schlatt why does SlimJim call you bb girl?” “How about we stop talking”
The fact someone asked him what pops meant and he said he didn't want to talk about it until the ending he finally said it before he died...schlatt needs to do more DayZ streams
