This is an interesting technicality. I feel like most people already know that the Japanese "Kikuchi" scene is actually a Yamamoto track taking "inspiration" from Propaganda's A Secret Wish album. However the American Faulconer one is interesting because it was a case of being changed multiple times. Originally it had a very different track entitled "Frieza's Death" written for it, but Funimation requested changes and it wound up having this heavy metal tone. Regardless how you feel about it, it's not what the composers originally went for. You can actually hear it crossfade out at 01:48 and hear the new track edited in if you listen carefully.

DBZ Dub (Faulconer) 4. Kai (Kikuchi) All are at least good imo. Yamamoto's Kai score is so memorable here. Sometimes, I find myself humming this theme while at work. Gives a great sense of surprise and "Trunks doesn't mess around." Faulconer Productions does a great job with tension throughout the series, and this music definitely conveys an unforgettable shock-factor. The issue is that the scene never gets a chance to breathe with the music constantly playing and switching. Unless Faulconer handled the sound mixing for each episode, I put the blame more on Funimation. I love the Kikuchi score... for the original anime. For Kai's quicker pace, a lot of the classic themes simply don't fit, and some of the deeper cuts had to be used. This scene is actually an example of where it works, thanks to the fast pace (Feels like everything is happening so suddenly), and those moments where the music stops, to let it sink in that Freeza just got sliced in half, was a stroke of brilliance. Faulconer score actually enhanced the scene...the others were just one track playing all the way through. Very little direction, just a track in the background. However, with faulconer; they paid attention to each thing happening on screen. Like when trunks put his hands out, they emphasized it. when the panned over to him, the change in theme represented the new character, trunks being introduced (in a badass way). and then the kill...they dramatized it by changing the theme again. Alot more thought was put into the direction, and it enhanced the impact of what was happening. whether you LIKE the music or not, it was utilized in a more advanced fashion that enhanced the scene. some of you need to...think about these things.

You mean Yamamoto in Z or in Kai? Cause technically the piece in Z wasn't composed by Kikuchi, or even by Yamamoto given the plagiarism controversy.
The very last kikuchi one is definitely my personal fav. The voice actors were TOP NOTCH and the way the score just stops to show that Frieza was cut is perfect.

I really wish the Kikuchi score had more thought put into it for Kai. This scene rips but the overall score is a fraction of the DBZ library, and they replaced the Yamamoto score basically last minute so it gets super repetitive and doesn't always match the action. There was a couple of attempts to make fan edits that restore the original DBZ Kikuchi score but unfortunately they seem to have died.
@ginogatash4030

@@chrisf2874 yes, Kai absolutely does the Kikuchi score dirty.
Hey everybody, thanks for all the views on this random little video, I appreciate it. Please stop telling me the first score uses a Yamamoto track. I know, I already knew when I made the video. I was using “Kikuchi Score” as a label to differentiate it from other DBZ scores, such as the Faulconer score or the Wasserman score. You do not need to comment about it anymore. Also, please watch some of my other videos that I put way more time and effort into.
Even though the first one is technically Yamamoto (and also plagiarized 😢) it is by far my favorite
those were all good
Great comparison! My ranking of the tracks for this scene are Yamamoto's piece for Kai > Kikuchi's piece for Kai > Faulconer > Yamamoto's piece for DBZ.
First one is the best ❤

Kikuchi score for the series Faulconer for the buu saga
1. Z kikuchi score 2. Z Kai Yamamoto score 3. Z Bruce faulconer score 4. Z Kai kikuchi score The only right opinion.
Does anyone know where to find the ocean dub of this scene?
@funkybunko
6 ай бұрын
Doesn’t exist. Ocean stopped dubbing after Goku landed on Namek and only picked back up with Goku landing on earth after Trunks defeated Frieza (the episode where he shows off Instant Transmission for the first time) so this scene was never dubbed by them, unless there’s a flashback scene I’m forgetting about.

@@gespenst1329 nope, Westwood IS the Ocean dub I mentioned that picked back up with Goku landing on earth after Trunks defeated Frieza. Basically the team of FUNimation/Saban/Ocean did from Raditz to when Goku landed on Namek and the team of ABGroup/Westwood/Ocean did Goku landing back on earth to the end of Z.

Fun Fact: Faulconer wrote the score because Funimation didn't wanted to payoff royalties and because the producers felt more need to Americanize the soundtrack to be akin to American (USA) Cartoons.
The others just don't get me as hyped or that feeling of tension as much as Faulconer's score.
