Trumpeter SBD Dauntless
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
An excellent yet not the easiest kit is my first contact with Trumpeter... I was impressed. I found this kit as a leftover in a modeling shop, apparently left for quite some time, deducing from the discoloration of the box due to prolonged sun exposure, which in turn made for a better price.
It's one of the longest builds (for an airplane), which took me three and a half months from unboxing to uploading.
I usually work with two (sometimes three) kits at the time - working on one while the paint dries on the other one- you know the drill.
I'm not 100% I made sure this kit justice but I think it's an overall acceptable build.
Please leave a comment below and let me know what you think.

Awesome, worthy the remembrance of John James Powers, Dusty Kleiss, Dick Best and many others.
I have built the 48th scale version of this a few times and it’s my favourite air wing of ww2 I will be purchasing this scale version, you made a fine build my friend,I will be using your video as a guide,great job 👍

Very nice build 👍
Terrific job and an excellent final result.....you absolutely did this kit justice! I have a 1/32 Dauntless in my stash to build sometime soon....thanks for the inspiration and your vid is a great guide for my future build. That first tune took me back to the 1960's psychedelic pop rock.....memories!! Look forward to seeing what you next have for us.

Great SBD!!! But Hats Off to Your REASERCH on the Main Bottom Fuselage Flap PAINTED THE BOTTOM COLOR of the SBD!! For those Who May Doubt....Look at the Naval Aviation Museum's SBD-2 which saw Battle of Midway has over 200 bullet holes (now Covered up) That aircraft has that flap painted bottom color of aircraft... I believe that a museum in Michigan obtained a SBD from the bottom of one of the Great Lakes...Photos show the center flap the Bottom Color NOT RED.... Its only my opinion that at some point the Center flap started to get painted Red.. But I never have Read or seen a Directive on the matter..I Know, Really?! Color of a Center Flap?! Attention to Detail, it's important... How Important is up to the Builder.... Blessings Thank You Darrell Killingsworth
The best weathering I have seen. Not too regular like too many pre-shaded models. Very nice indeed.

I've been building for years in the 1/48 scale, I recently purchased a couple kits in 1/32. I'm really looking forward to the upgrade in size. Great job on this build your an inspiration

Thank you :) I find 1:32 easier on the eyes... (we're not getting any younger) and easier to detail.. Good luck on your builds!
Missing your front canopy compass at the top of the front canopy it's tiny on the sprue just double check! What I'm noticing with mine is quite alot of levers from the side pannals missing! The holes are on the parts you glue on and like the lever ball head Moulded on but no levers on sprues I've had to make a couple now and the oxygen can pipes needs more added and quite a few parts from the heads on the engine whare the HT plugs at top go to nowhere lol alot of people say this is a brilliant kit but if you do your research you see its pretty poor and wrong in places hopefully we get a new 1.35 from border model's after the next Japanese "Kate" they are now working on for a battle of midway seatbelts are unusable aswell and front one's are missing the shoulder straps! I've ordered a set of new 3D printed seats with belts from thing site just waiting on them coming tomorrow to get it finished up now!

It is a great kit... Not the easiest but really good one.. Mind the fitting of the two fuselage halves when you close the model... it gave me some trouble, I had to cut a few notches to close it. Thanks for watching. :)
it's simply fantastic!!!!!!...but...a lot of work for the internal part only that then they are covered !!!...sorry for my bad english...congratulation, it's a super work!!!

Thank you very much:) Your english is fine... I know it's too much work that won't be seen.. but.. this is the spirit of model building... And besides... there IS this vid to show what's inside, isn't it? :)
Hi sure I built a dauntless in the 70’s that had a bomb release mechanism?! Or am I dementia’s lol Also my first kit was a spitfire 1/72 that had strings like a puppet but not sure if Airfix or matchbox. Cheers
Absolutely amazing! I’m relatively new to modeling and just bought a kit. Can you tell me what kind of glue you were using?
@wbpsmodels3452

Thank you very much! Welcome to the hobby! I'm mainly using Tamiya glue (extra thin or extra thin fast).
Great work! I'm still not convinced the kit itself is really a 5 out of 5. I have yet to find a trumpeter kit that is truly a 5.

It was my first trumpeter kit but somewhere I read that this one was Trumpeter's best kit... I guess I was lucky... But it was really excellent... Great detail, no flash, good fit... Thank you for watching :)

@@wbpsmodels3452 One thing I'll warn you about now, with trumpeter kits, is the instrument panels. They are so hit or miss when it comes to detail, if they provide any at all.

Do you sell finished Douglas SBD Dauntless. Thanks.

I have not considered selling any of my models, but even if I did, the Dauntless was in the display when it crashed and is seriously damaged. Thank you for asking!
Do you thin your paint
@wbpsmodels3452
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I usually thin my paints around 50-60% (50-60% paint, the rest is thinner)
Are theses kits expensive
@wbpsmodels3452
2 жыл бұрын
This one was moderately priced but wasn't cheap. (~65 Euro)
Getting those 2 halves together was indeed a lot of fiddling, I ended with cutting two unnecessary studs in the hull.
@wbpsmodels3452

So did I (not the hull, the deck studs, amounts to the same).. It WAS a hassle, wasn't it? Thanks for watching! :)

@@wbpsmodels3452 Yes the deck stud's, it seemed they missed it bij a 1/2 mm. Love to watch and subscribed. Keep up the good work.
