Thanks for your comment! Doing it this way also really helps me identify, more specifically, any problem areas in my playing!
I used to change pieces! Going from lead (Byron Stripling, Bergeron, MF, Lynn all them cats) to section work but with a full sound & range Kinda gave up the lead stuff though & just worked on producing a fundamental sound.
I bought a couple of "commercial" pieces to make the upper register easier, but they only bought me an extra half step and ruined my tone in the middle and low registers. Oh, and they stunted the progress I was making with my standard mouthpiece, a Schilke. So, I'm returning to the Schilke and will be doing everything on that.

Good move! I don’t like sacrificing sound for anything…
I use a Dennis Wick 3C 16.75mm Cup is shallow. Still can not get highnotes past F above the pentagram. Would trying a 4C 16.50 be good?

I’m not familiar with the Denis Wick mouthpieces, unless they are for Cornet. I’m playing on something that’s pretty much middle of the road: Bach 3C.

Where to begin? Just stay with what comes with my new trumpet? How do you evaluate what matches your anatomy? I don’t ever plan on being a lead screaming the song but just want the clearest rich notes that match me. Help

Hi Paul! I totally hear you. Most of what I practice and play is not screaming High notes. When I go into the upper register, it’s an extension of the solid foundation in the middle register and low register. I’m not sure what mouthpiece is going to be included with your trumpet, but, I still play on my Bach 3C from my college days. It is a fantastic all around mouthpiece, ad it’s reasonably priced. If the mouthpiece included with your new trumpet has a stamp that says 5C or 7C, stick with that for a little while and see how it sounds to you. If it’s fuzzy or airy sounding, try getting the Bach 3C.
