Instead of poring over evidence or arguments related to his legal defense, today in the courtroom Donald Trump leafed through positive press clippings about himself. “Much like a child with an iPad at a restaurant, the ex-president needs to be entertained during the less-salacious portions of his trial,” says Chris Hayes.

Trump was Sundowning severely during his final press conference. He was using words that were odd, like saying "twenty-oh-six" for 2006 and many more mixes of sounding close, but the wrong meaning. His facial expression was distorted, showing only a puffy deadened look around his eyes, even when trying say things with anger or humour. He had the idea of what he wanted to say, about condemning Jews for voting Democrat - but got totally confused reading one of his articles. It was about some Jewish doners, that were unhappy about Biden restricting arms to Israel. He repeatedly got confused saying these pro-Israel doners somehow hated Israel. I've witnessed this stage of dementia before, in people that developed full blown Alzheimer's.

It’s why he conducted election rallies despite being in office, kept interviews limited to parties who mirrored his ego, and surrounded himself with individuals who reiterated his speaking points. He sees validation as a source of truth, rather than as a means of boosting his ego. It never challenges his outlook, sense of self worth, or beliefs. It’s likely the compromise his lawyers made to keep him engaged. He can bring any information he likes to court, as long as that information is kept out of the court records (appeals to his sense of knowing something no one else knows, while allowing that information to remain personal). It’s his lawyers learning from his past antics in his other court case involving a woman. As long as DJT thinks he has an upper hand, it keeps him cooperative and quiet. And a quiet DJT is better than one introducing trivial, unsupported, or speculative information to his defense which tends to discredit his argument he’s truthful and distracts from the reality that he doesn’t need to prove anything for his defense; and only needs reasonable doubt (i.e., the prospect that the prosecution’s evidence doesn’t conclusively (sufficiently) demonstrate their assertions. Distraction is a particular skill used with individuals who have emotion regulation issues, to allow the immediacy of their reactions to pass and return to baseline without acting them out.

I would pay $9,999 (1 dollar short of federal reporting limits) to get bluetooth access to that printer. I would have so much fun with that.
Having a batch of appealing printed material is something I’ve seen done for dementia patients. The person with whom I’m most familiar would spend extended periods shuffling through the same materials over and over, and spent long moments starting at photos of himself doing things. Without his papers he was often agitated and restless, but would be able to stay occupied calmly for 45 minutes to an hour with his papers.

It's to stop him from imploding or exploding. It has to make his ego feel great. It's not mainly to keep him busy, that's just a plus.

Someone needs to let his mood stay down. Maybe then he will take time to think about all of the crazy and deranged things he says and does. Nothing like a little self reflection.

Narcs are either incapable of self reflection or choose to avoid it because it would destroy their carefully crafted self image. I think in this case, he is UTTERLY without self awareness.

He's a full blown Narcissist. Narcissists that far up the spektrum don't "self reflect". Nothing that would have them feeling ashamed or embarrassed enough to change their conduct anyways. It's why he keeps behaving the way he does.
