The originally Hollywoodland sign was built and erected in 1923 to promote a real estate development. Throughout the depression of the 30's the sign began to deteriorate. In the last 1970's Playboy founder Hugh Hefner came to it's rescue by helping raise $250,000 to restore the sign to it's significant glory! By Kelso Brennan
