This and Band of Brothers are the greatest shows ever imo (with a special mention to the Sopranos).

This season is a Masterpiece that sits atop the singular season throne with the greats.Art in motion.

Greatest single Tv season of all time hands down !

Rust Cohle is my favorite character in this series, Matthew McConaughey did a great job. I love Rust's philosophical rants as well as his tragic life story, he was a well written character that's for sure.

First season is my favorite piece of media of all time! Thanks guys for reacting to this. I loved the ones you did on the Wire and the Sopranos ... your reactions definitely became my favorites in general, you almost always find the perfect balance between humor, thoughtfullness and the emotional gravity of situations, which will come in handy in this show. Sometimes complex, other times plain humor mixes with deep philosophical and societal topics. I gave lectures about this show at my university in Germany. Many reactions out there on this show just didn't get it, it seemed to fly over their head. I understand that sometimes its pretty heavy stuff, digging deep into the dark places of the human psyche. Thats not for everyone, some people just want to have a good time. But if you can relate at least a bit, this is an incredible journey.

Probably the only show that can contend with The Sopranos as GOAT. What a follow up.

Hell yes! Just subscribed this morning, and then you drop this? My favorite series of all time. Dark, philosophical, and even hilarious at times.

Y’all need to do all the seasons. Like Fargo, there are some people who don’t like the other seasons as much but I think they are all good and worth watching/reactions. Especially for their newest seasons, which have been bangers. Season 1 of TD is elite tho. 1 of the best single seasons of any show.

YES! I'm so glad to see someone say this. The only thing S2 ever did wrong was fail to be a carbon copy of S1. When you watch them with the understanding that they're a stories all of their own, the later 2.5 seasons are beautiful.

Mindhunter is fab too, you will enjoy this then.

Season 1 of both True Detective and The Terror is the best tv I've ever seen.

I don't agree with most people, that only season 1 is great (which it is, it's a masterpiece of a tv show), but imo the 2nd is also great, I think that people were just disappointed the 2nd season was not about a serial killer.....

Rust is the way he is (which you’ll see and I’m not spoiling) and I’m sure formal you’ll get this (only because you’re pretty good at reading characters, bralik u too) But it takes a certain type of man to get broken so many different ways, and to still manage to walk a path , Russ knows who he is, and chose his path. Even if he doesn’t like it. His opinions as negative as they are true fact, he simply chooses to embrace who he is while at the same time being aware he knows, EXACTLY What he hast to do in life to attempt, simply attempt.. to be a good man.

Deeper and darker as you go. Keep at it.

Glad you guys started this show, which is one of my all time favorites. A rare piece of complex perfection. And yes, each season stands completely on its own. But as a concept, it suffered from its own success, with any follow up being harshly contrasted and judged by the first. Looking forward to the rest of it, and things do take quite a ride.

While I liked Seasons 2-3 (3 imo was not that terrible at all) for my own reasons they're definitely nowhere near the level that Season 1 was. Season 4 however seems to be putting this series back on the quality track, atm any rate. Fargo too to a much smaller degree suffered the same way although the only season for that series I'd say is bad is definitely 4. Out of the two overall though Fargo is easily the better anthology series.

39:11 there’s another character from The Wire in this series. Sorry for the spoiler… It’s Marlo. He’s the killer. Also…price of the brick goin up

Seeing you all start this made my day. A personal tie with "The Wire" for best television ever IMO. Edit: Referring to Season I only, as Seasons II and III are just average but not bad... although the new Season IV is showing a lot of promise so far.

29:00 Y'all don't know how the mind of an alcoholic works. He brought that flask just in case the detectives decided not to be accomodating by going on a beer run for him. Like he said, he starts drinking at noon, and nothing, come hell or high water, was going to get in the way of that.

I’ll admit it, I got some Rust in me. Got my sister to watch this and after 1 episode she knew why I liked it, lol Also New Orleans boy here born and bred. Got out years ago though. Rust’s line “It’s like someone’s memory of a town..and it’s fading”, exactly how I see the place now. But for me, TD1 is easily the most accurate depiction of the area I’ve seen. The apathy, the goddamn refineries everywhere. Only thing I can think of that has as good accents was RDR2, lol.

There’s on guy in the bayou who boats you around and once says “crAYfish”, next to no one from there would say that. It’s “crAWfish”, or maybe even a “crawdad”. But then there’s a girl who needs a ride home back to the bayou. She complains about the horse the whole time “dang animal”. I’m convinced they pulled the actress right out of the 9th Ward it’s so spot on. Lol

If you think the pace is slow you should binge watch the entire Season 1 Don’t be so dumb all your life You will be shocked and amazed by this Series and especially the ending

Mathew mccaughey should have got every award possible for his acting in this season. The only comparison all time would be Daniel Day Lewis in "there will be blood". Can't wait for you guys to see the rest of this amazing story.

Watch "True Romance" One of the greatest films ever made , waych it in its full entirety before reacting to it. All star cast , seen it jver 30 times and still never disappoints

I wish I can go back to 2014 and watch season 1 again. The only season that comes close again is season 3.

@@prettymuchbangtan hey a lot of people agree with you. I can only say my opinion on it, as worthless as it may appear to be lol. I tend to nitpick a lot too with shows. Like if something doesn't make sense or if a character survives something incredibly unsurvivable, it'd just hard for me to shut it off sometimes.

This season is considered peak TV and I agree.

12:36 If you want a taste of who influenced Rust's outlook on life you could read The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse: Frederich Nietzsche, Herman Hesse, Søren Kierkegaard and Fyodor Dostoevsky. I might add a fifth horseman Thomas Mann. You read those authors and you will become a realistic pessimist. It's not that the try to be pessimists, but the logical arguments they will leave you with a sense of ennui and angst.

Perfect!!! Don't watch the rest of the seasons!!!

Season 1 is epic

I love this show..one of the best

It's definitely gonna ramp up, you won't regret it. S2 and 3 are different stories/actors. Imo S2 is a waste of time, I couldn't even finish it. S3 is good. And apparently S4 is a sequel to S1 with different actors. Anyway really hope you continue with this one, it's genius television

I never like Mathew maybe because he was pretty yes I know am hating on this men for his looks but after watching TRUE DETECTIVE AND DALLAS BUYERS CLUB he is a hell of an actor and respect the men !!
