I agree. I actually paused it to rewind and make sure I heard it right. I can barely remember what this show was actually about, but to this day, that line still pops in my head from time to time.

Great lines for sure. But they speak directly to the fictionalized world built by Chris Nolan. These lines speak to something far more profound that maybe not a lot of people can understand or even believe. What he's talking about here is something that I've experienced personally throughout my entire life. And even though they could be taken differently depending on who you are, they seem to directly speak about one particular aspect of life that I've found difficult to explain or discuss and usually don't. @@relddirR

I've had psychedelic hallucinations and non-psychotic hallucinations. That's more or less how it is. Sleep deprivation (as Rust clearly deals with) is a big influence. After a while your mind begins to malfunction. But because it's your mind and not some introduced toxin; the visions are as real as anything. You can only spot the differences upon examination, and that's not easy, at times. I've seen children having seizures, faces melded to the walls, men eating or doing other mundane activities all in my house. I knew they weren't real, but some of them tested that certainty.

I always wondered if that was intentional. They didn't really specifically draw attention to it or have either character mention it. The symbolism is strong though. Did they put the owl there? Is the owl CGI of some kind? Did there just happen to be a random owl there that day?

There are no supernatural elements in the show. Nic even said as much. It's all in the mind.

@@bobstacks8405did he? I never heard him explicitly state as much. It's left ambiguous. There's as many logical explanations as there are otherwise. The viewer has to decide whether it's all psychological and bears easy explanation, or if something bigger is at play. And that line gets blurrier and blurrier.

My personal opinion is that it was put there to create a subconscious sense of uneasiness. The way it moves against the wind, undisturbed by the sudden presence of humans, and its large frame all imply a sense of other worldliness.

I love that they played some psychedelic rock tune after Rust's line about "mainlining the secret truth of the universe." Yep, psychedelia can teach us that sometimes, one needs only to be brave enough to listen.

I've only one seriously intense psychedelic experience and that was enough to change things. Ever since, I've felt tapped into something just beyond the surface of all my perceptions. I'm thankful that most of that perception change has been internal; I live with myself, so its what I can contend with the most. But the world as a whole is drastically different for me than it used to be.

One of the childhood books I grew up with was called Imogen's Antlers, about a girl who grows moose antlers. Seeing this was a weird synchronicity and freaked me out a bit with the passing similarity of the imagery. I think I was mainlining a secret truth of the universe that had been stepped on...baking soda, baby powder, the works. But Rust definitely had some fishscale, Colombian grade secret truth of the universe for sure lol
