Jun Lin (Chinese: 林俊; pinyin: Lín Jùn) (December 30, 1978 - May 24/25, 2012), also known as Justin Lin, was an international student from Wuhan and an undergraduate in the engineering and computer science faculty at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. In 2012 he was murdered by Luka Rocco Magnotta (born Eric Clinton Kirk Newman) who mailed his hands and feet to elementary schools and federal political party offices.
After a video depicting the murder was posted online in May 2012, Magnotta fled from Canada, becoming the subject of an Interpol Red Notice and prompting an international manhunt. In June 2012, he was apprehended in Berlin while reading news about himself at an Internet café. In December 2014, after eight days of deliberations, a jury convicted him of first-degree murder. He was previously sought by animal rights groups for allegedly uploading videos of himself killing kittens.
Luka Magnotta was born Eric Clinton Kirk Newman on July 24, 1982, in Scarborough, Ontario, the son of Anna Yourkin and Donald Newman. He was the first of their three children. According to him, his mother was obsessed with cleanliness, would routinely lock her children out of the house, and once put her children's pet rabbits out in the cold to freeze to death. His father was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1994, after which he divorced Magnotta's mother, leading Magnotta to move in with his grandmother, Phyllis. He appeared as a pin-up model in a 2005 issue of Toronto's fab magazine, using the pseudonym Jimmy. In 2007, he was an unsuccessful competitor in OUTtv's reality series COVERguy. He had multiple cosmetic surgeries and auditioned for the Slice network television show Plastic Makes Perfect in February 2008.
In 2005, he was convicted of one count of impersonation and three counts of fraud (against Sears Canada, The Brick, and 2001 Audio Video) after impersonating a woman to apply for a credit card and purchasing over $10,000 worth of goods. He pleaded guilty and received a nine-month conditional sentence with 12 months of probation. He legally changed his name to Luka Rocco Magnotta on August 12, 2006. Magnotta declared bankruptcy in March 2007, owing $17,000 in various debts. The bankruptcy was fully discharged in December 2007.
Magnotta created many profiles on various Internet social media and discussion forums over several years to plant a variety of claims about himself. One such rumour emerged in 2007, claiming Magnotta was in a relationship with Karla Homolka, a high-profile Canadian convicted murderer, though he denied this in a subsequent interview with the Toronto Sun. During the murder investigation, Montreal police announced that the pair had dated but soon retracted the statement and acknowledged that they had no evidence to corroborate the claim. As with the Homolka relationship, Magnotta repeatedly denied the claims that he had planted as hoaxes and part of a campaign of cyber stalking against him. Police stated that Magnotta set up at least 70 Facebook pages and 20 websites under different names.

I was a bouncer at Stereo night club , I saw Luka many times, sometimes he would put on a wig and a fake butt, always danced on the same spot . Small frame , looked harmless, something about him was off for sure , he didn't get along with many other patrons. Never caused problems, he was just very eccentric. It still shocks me, I would never imagine this kind of evil from a harmless looking dude. On a side note, my sister was a producer for Canadian Top Model and was the one who interviewed him for the show, they wanted to fly her in from BC to testify, she declined so,they used some of the footage in court. She knew he was crazy from the get go.

Wow! That’s interesting. Fake butt? Lol sounds like something Luka would do. Everything about him was fake. Of course Luka Magnota isn’t even his real name. My takeaway from that interview with your sister was this guy just seemed completely blank. Like no personality at all. Almost looked like a wax figure. And obviously a complete sociopath.

Scott, I’m exactly the same as you. I can watch documentaries with crimes about serial killers all day long. But when it comes to animal cruelty I can’t watch it even for a second. I will say that don’t f with cats doesn’t show the exact moment when the animal cruelty happens it cuts away but I fast forwarded through all that. And beyond the first couple episodes it gets more into the Lin crime and away from the animal cruelty. Just wanted to let you know. It’s worth watching imo ❤️ 🐈

Heartbreaking. Jun had such a beautiful smile. It creeped me out watching that psychopath going in and out, especially with the yellow shirt. I didn't know that Canada's rule of the term "life in prison" only means 25 years, though I get that the parole board can keep him in. He should never see the light of day again. Do you know if they have blocked off that apartment? I can't imagine anyone living there. RIP Jun Lin. 😥🕯🕯

A bit of clarification here, it means an offender can apply for parole in 25yrs on a life sentence, it doesn't mean an offender will get released at that time, Magnota will never be released, he'll die in prison. Put another way, a life sentence in Canada can indeed mean, LIFE.

That video was top notch. Ever heard of the camp Scott murders? I know you usually do solved cases, but that is a sad unsolved case from the 70s involving 3 young women. The locations are still kind of intact in Oklahoma as well. I know travel is tough and its unsolved, it's just a recommendation. I appreciate the respect you show victims, the lack of luster you show the criminal and the pure honest good heart you carry within you. I can tell you’re a good person. Thank you for bringing us these stories. The stories you cover are far from pleasant yet you bring knowledge to the table. The history brings us the information and information is knowledge. Knowledge is how we gain wisdom. Information is knowledge and knowledge is power. Knowledge is power. Power is knowing there are consequences good and bad for the choices we make in life. Keep up the great work on these disturbing cases from our history.

Sgt. Jim Smith is his name, from the OPP. He's absolutely brilliant. He also interrogated that sicko Paul Bernardo, Michael Rafferty and Terri Ann Mclintock. Terri-Lynne I meant. Not that it matters cuz she's a sick POS.

A view from the UK. Scotty, is it me or is that bloke at 10.35mins in having a piss up the wall? Oh!, by the way, binge watching as i am, certain details within your videos are linked again. The area of Scarborough is linked with both him and Paul Bernardo. Fascinating innit.

Again you are so amazing your empathy amazing that you focus on the victims I did see the Netflix documentary it was very hard to see and I have a cat so sometimes I get panicked even remembering when I saw but thank God for those internet detectives that tirelessly work to find out who he was they are to be commended they worked really hard and they helped to capture him you take care now I appreciate you so much True Crime is hard enough you add a certain ability to identify with the victims and I appreciate that there before the grace of God we could become a victim and I believe this helps me to be aware of what's around me so that I don't become a victim
