@@ryanmcwilliams8784 Not gonna lie, I had every Ps1 and 2 era GTA game and still preferred True Crime in a lot of ways. GTA had far more polish but True Crime's aim system alone blew GTA 3 and Vice City on console out of the water, never mind the variable effect depending on where your shots landed being a crucial gameplay mechanic that went beyond just headshots. LA has aged pretty poorly and New York was very unpolished but both felt ahead of their time in a lot ways at least as far as these open world GTA clones went, LA's aiming and personal vehicles, NY's huge amount of interiors, ability to interact with people beyond simply attacking them and melee combat system were way ahead of what GTA was doing at the time. NY's map completion was certainly better handled than San Andreas' half assed gang warfare to control parts of the map. Made for a good story but poor gameplay, where NY's equivalent was good in both regards. I'd still call the GTA titles of the time better overall packages but True Crime's creativity made them shine in ways GTA simply didn't back then and gave them an identity as more (and sadly less at times) than just a copy.

Man where do I even start. Remember that early point in your childhood where things were a blur? That’s where I was with this game, I loved how expansive the map was compared to GTA, with me being so young the repetitious early 00’s map design was actually somehow interesting to me. I was fascinated when I connected the dots with the Motorola phone map, and my own mom’s cell phone. I remember being absolutely frustrated with the fact I could never obtain Good Cop status, in hindsight it’s probably because I gleefully ran over peds like any other sandbox. The last act of the game can play before my eyes. I also remember the shame/guilt in Walken’s voice after I’d get annihilated by the last boss. That ending sucked lol. Good memories with these old PS2 OG’s…

This game reminds me of my little brother. We've grown apart over the years so this game is now very nostalgic to me. He was always the bad cop in this game and thought the good cop route was lame and boring. This game really brought out the differences in our characters and how the next decade or so would play out. Thanks for the memory lane drive.

As someone who played it at the time I can tell you it was very impressive, as for the no secrets there were the odd few Easter eggs but also the bones to collect to unlock snoop dogg. One point about this game I'd like to make is that the soundtrack was astonishing, fighting general kim atop a rainy skyscraper at night to the sound of Deftones - Minerva was an iconic moment for me, that and sneaking around to Grade 8 in the stealth sections 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

Funny thought about the map. I remember searching for all the bones hoping to unlock snoop but since I didn’t have a memory card I couldn’t save the game so every time it got shut off I’d have to start my search all over. Well since you couldn’t mark locations on the map I would place a piece of paper on my tv and just put dots on the paper over the map so I could find the bones again easily lmao

Since we're in the trend of game remakes, this one absolutely deserves one!! It was such a fun game when I was a kid and I grew up watching Rush Hour and this movie felt exactly like it minus having a partner. It'd be cool if you could get a partner on certain missions and introduce a counter mechanic when fighting as well. It's highly unlikely to get one but this game would do well with a remake

This game was certainly attempting to be more than just another GTA clone. The number of stars they were able to get to voice the primary characters is mind-blowing. Christopher Walken being the most notable. The intent was for Streets of LA to be the first in a continuing series of games but sadly it never got past the second game titled Streets of NY which was a commercial failure and insured there would be no further installments. The Streets of LA soundtrack is the best part about the game in my opinion and I played the CD that was packed with the game in my car a lot. It's sad that True Crime didn't continue into the modern console era and benefit from the advancements in graphics the way GTA has. I wouldn't mind seeing this game remade from the ground up.

It's a 1:1 recreation of central L.A. even more of L.A. was made, but they blocked it off. Even has usable shops and accurate street names. I do appreciate the effort. I think the map would have been more enjoyable if it was a strict driving game, like most of the Driver games are. They could have refined the driving and had more room for mission variety, well, driving variety.

With the 3 branching story paths you also have bad endings where Nick dies for each should you choose to give up after you lose any of those final boss fights. I seem to remember some missions have slightly different versions of themselves should you have screwed up in the previous one (IE not gotten to a location fast enough or failing in some other way). Occasionally you be locked out of progressing the story and would have to replay stuff but it's interesting to do a playthrough where instead of restarting a mission you choose to contuine and roll with your mistakes

That's a role made for C.C.H. Pounder" and turns out the casting director agreed. Loved this. Nostalgia. Couple things missed that weren’t covered: If your karma goes too low into the bad cop, just like in GTA the city will turn on you. It’s kind of like a free for all to kill you at that point. While there isn’t too much difference in the fighting upgrades you can get new unique takedowns the more you upgrade like a judo throw that helped against opponents that recover quickly. There are Easter eggs hidden around the city, they are bones. If you collect all the bones, it will let you play as Snoop Dogg ❤

I've played the shit out of it on PC when I was a kid, and in my memory I remembered really good graphics, fun fights, ok driving, not much problems with controls. Now, thanks to you it all came back to me. It really didn't age well though...

Man this game brought back my child hood memories!! I remember every thing about this game! I played it for the Gamecube and had fun. The fact there was a way you can play as Snoop Dogg for a Hour really made it interesting! Also i remember there was a glitch where if you go to Venice and there is a street called "Rose Ave" on the beach side all the pedestrians will have either Illegal Weapons or Drugs to help boost your Good Cop/Bad and Badges. Overall i loved this game!! I still have it to this day!!

This game is the best example I've seen of graphics looking great at the time it came out and looking hideous now. Fun fact: If you go outside the boundaries of the map you actually disappear and and reappear back on the nearest street. I've never known another open world game that does that and I've played quite a few. Also, I was 16 when this game came out so I was able to process the Ancient Wu mission a bit better. When Nick first brings up Wu to the FBI agent, the fed claims that Ancient Wu is "an urban myth, the stuff of fortune cookies." When the mission finally arrived I was like "oh, so THAT'S what he meant..."

this game did not have that impressive graphics for its time at all. it was criticized for its graphics actually. also for its main protag who every magazine of the time seemed to hate. dunno why. i liked the game.
