    incredible that this is possible on UK roads. In Belgium trucks of this size can only travel during night after a lot of planning ! At that time its also easier to block roads to let trucks of this calibre pass

During the day, everything is illuminated and much easier for recovery or repair or Law Enforcement/Rescue assistance. People out on the roads at night are either more HGVs doing routine jobs on main roads or are racers that aren't paying attention to a massive lorry.

These trucks aren't cheap as they need to be as reliable as possible. Even the DAF i drive at work is known in the truck world to not be thr most reliable, but compared to the cars i've owned its been better than them all in terns of breakdowns and issues per miles covered. Absolutely not the fault of the lorry driver of course, but I can imagine the immense pressure of a mixture of feeling embarrassed, helpless and apologetic etc. for blocking a busy road. Especially knowing that other lorry drivers have their tachograph clocks ticking. Being a new tractor unit, it wasn't exactly what anyone expected to happen. I love the way they dealt with the situation as swiftly as they could. These things happen and it was good to see that were no apparent displays of silly complaining and mild to wild road rage from other drivers.

    The trouble with modern vehicles is that they have made them far to complicated, I have heard one story that to change the oil on one new vehicle you needed to plug a computer in. I have seen a particular instance similar to this one when a large truck pulling over sized concrete bridge beams roughly weighing 150 tons all up had to stop on a hill, the truck could not spin the torque convertor up fast enough for it to be able to pull forward, the solution was get a police Range Rover to pull it from the front to take the strain for a few seconds so the torque convertor could start to put power to the axles, and get moving.

    Volvo cars do the same, I had my car in the local mechanics and the guy had a Volvo SUV in when I went to get it. I got chatting and he said the owners over filled it with oil, but it’s because Volvo cars don’t have a dipstick! It’s all computerised and you have a digital dashboard level, he had to plug his fault finding computer in to find it was a simple overfill though, so the car wouldn’t run. Why replace a simple dipstick the computer?

  • @Ashworth-Media

    @Ashworth-Media

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@marksapollo That would make it far to simple to do, if you need to use a computer then you need the right computer and software along with someone who knows how to use it, all this means that for a simple oil change that we all use to do years ago now means a visit to a main dealer and pay main dealer prices.
