Truck Walk-Around: South Ogden's Pierce Velocity Transport Pumper

The South Ogden, Utah Fire Department is currently served by this custom Pierce Velocity Transport Pumper. This concept marries fire and EMS in a vehicle that has the capabilities to fight fire and transport patients involved in medical incidents.
◾️ Pierce Velocity cab/chassis
◾️ Detroit Diesel DD13 525hp engine
◾️ TAK-4 independent front suspension
◾️ 500 gallon water tank
◾️ Waterous 1500 GPM pump
This particular truck carries a crew of three firefighters / paramedics and serves out of one station. Instead of juggling responses between an ambulance and a fire truck, the crew is able to respond to all types of incidents in this single vehicle. They respond to medical emergencies on a daily basis and transport patients directly to the hospital in this Transport Pumper. In the rare event of a structure fire during patient transport, the crew will complete transport of the patient and then respond with other units to the fire. South Ogden FD is also served by several frontline Pierce fire apparatus, including a pumper and an aerial, that are available for first due fire calls.
Thank you South Ogden (UT) Fire Department for choosing Pierce Mfg! It is our pleasure to serve you and other departments across the state of Utah as the exclusive Pierce dealer. Learn more at Siddons-Martin.com!

These are called "Transport Engines". Never got used to the idea, and I'm glad I never had to transport a patient in one. Not enough room, for one thing.

Having been a 911 dispatcher that dispatched this department as well as a field EMT, the other problem I see with these engines is that while they are on a transport, that engine and all of it's rescue equipment, etc. is unavailable not only while on scene but for how ever long the transport takes plus the time the crew is at the hospital. Same reason I've never agreed with putting paramedics on engines, and now departments that have switched their paramedics to separate vehicles are acting like that's the hottest new idea around when in fact it's actually an old idea from the earliest days of paramedic rescue squads.

Wow I never realized some apparatuses may have a special part that used just the same as an ambulance. Love it.

Same..it’s immaculate but why are all the bunker gear and scba’s in the rear right compartment. The back portion of the cab is basically an ambulance, then you have the driver and officer seat. The truck obviously can pump water but you ain’t got nobody to fight fire. Plus what happens if there’s a long wait at the ER?

The concept isn’t new. E-One pioneered this concept.
