Troy Deeney talks Prison, Alcohol struggles & Forest Green | Perspectives

Ойын-сауық

Since his short stint as player-manager at Forest Green, Troy Deeney has been in the media a lot recently. He’s a polarising character; some see him as outspoken, others find his ‘say it how it is’ style refreshing. Regardless, you have to respect the man’s career. Coming from a tough childhood in Birmingham, Deeney didn’t sign for a professional club until he was 18 years old. He rose up the English football pyramid making 165 PL appearances and scoring 47 PL Goals.
It’s rare to find a footballer so open about their story, but Deeney tells us everything. We cover his struggles with domestic abuse, alcohol issues, time in prison and the pressures of being a Premier League footballer. Love him or hate him, Troy Deeney is a name The Premier League will never forget.

Brilliant this. Really insightful and honest. Always found this with Troy as he always came across straight and direct in his interviews as a player, more recently as a pundit and on the radio etc. Interesting watch and was a decent, solid forward in his time. Could listen to him all day. 👏

Thanks for the informative podcast, always respected Troy one of the last genuine Target men, those headed goals. TBH the whole world has changed with technology, our new generation X has become over reliant on tech than hard work. It’s funny our generation used to be told by our elders we didn’t face real hardships, but looking back I’m like only life’s journey shows and probably teaches us a lot. Thanks again for the entertaining pod/Interview.

Great interview, frank and honest. A great role model for kids involved in the game today that are starting to go down the wrong route. Troy picked one of the worst comparisons possible though by using Becks goal against Greece. That was definitely one of ”those” moments you know exactly where you were and what you were doing, like Michael Owen’s goal against Argentina and England beating Germany 5-1 in their own backyard. “5-1 and even Heskey scored 5-1” 😂
