Фильм және анимация

I purchased this 2013 Troy Bilt Horse tiller in 2022 and go over some things to look at as I prepare it for the 2023 garden season.

Use PVC pipe to set the seal square to the shaft.

On the older models it was on top.

Why did you fill to the level of the old tiller not the actual tiller that you're using? It says right on the side "oil level" but you filled it up much higher.

There was quite a bit of discussion on the Troy Bilt (Garden Way) Roto-Tiller Fans facebook page. Newer models were having more rust on the drive shaft and bearing failures because they weren't fully emerged in oil - my guess is this won't matter if stored in a dry garage, but outside under a lean-to or shed the lower fill level could be an issue. Why they lowered the oil level plug? Who knows - but it has the capacity and there is zero harm when filling to the old fill level.

Not sure, I usually look for a part and then check the about and return policy to see if it’s a reputable seller. Some large sites like eplacement parts or Amazon work well and recently I’ve started using eBay more.

you millenials crack me up. Too much grease is better. lol. You don't pack a seal. You lightly coat it with the right grease and clean the shaft, like you did and just lightly grease the shaft.

Fair point - I'm learning as I go and going to keep learning. End of the day, in this specific spot, any wasted grease isn't hurting anything other than my wallet. The shaft is by far the most important part; learned that the hard way when a previous seal I did on a different tiller started leaking because it had a tiny scratch from the shaft not being perfectly smooth when installing (PVC pipe would have been nice for setting the seal, but I didn't have the right size on hand).

@@samuelwiltzius Until it collects dirt and acts like an abrasive on the shaft, which you'll find later. Not like it matters, it's a rototiller not an airplane. Great video.

@@48shamrockso far so good… though the seal I did not replace is leaking. Go figure; I should have done both at the same time.
