    Yeah, she's attractive in form but never sexualised, the basis of her relationship with the Master Chief is an emotional and intellectual one built on shared experiences, trials and trust. She drives the plot and is very much in the lead position when it comes to her relationship with the Master Chief. I think people interested in positive female portrayals would praise the character of Cortana.

    Speaking as a straight woman myself? 1. Drawing sexy ladies is *fun.* Drawing beautiful women in sexy costumes is *fun.* 2. Playing as a beautiful, confident, kick-ass woman with her own personality and fun/likeable characteristics is a wonderful feeling for me. Bayonetta is legitimately my fictional role model for this reason; she is everything I want to be. Sexy, strong, confident and comfortable in herself, doesn't take crap from anyone, a skilled fighter, yet still very kind-hearted and goes out of her way to help and protect people who get caught in the crossfire. 3. The *constant* implication that "big breasts == gross and wrong" is a terrible, _terrible_ mindset to have, because - news flash - females with naturally large breasts exist.

    He is not implicating that the sexualised women are bad characters, or inherently sexist. He argues that the majority of female characters in games being sexualised, and a lack of typical female characters/role models is sexist. And by creating Ellie, he wanted to challenge that. At least, that's what I understood. As a lesbian, I enjoy sexy women in my games haha. But it was cool to see a more normal looking girl being so badass.

He’s criticizing the PATTERN in which female characters appear over sexualized in games further perpetuating the narrative that a female character must be attractive to be viable. This pattern/narrative clearly exists in entertainment. The fact that so many people are angry at Neil for creating unattractive female characters only further confirms his point.

    As a person who grew up in the 90's, one of my favorite female leads was Lara Croft? Why? It wasn't just because she was sexy but because she *OWNED* it and was more than just sexy. She was a rich, bad ass who could kill T-Rexes with infinite back flips, infinite guns and look rocking while doing it. There's nothing wrong with being an attractive looking character. Its the reason why even male power fantasies involve being super in shape and extremely muscular instead of having beer-bellies and barely being able to do pull-ups. I really hate these sensitive people who create entertainment solely to push an agenda. Nothing ruins an experience more than being told how to feel instead of letting me feel on my own and enjoy what I'm doing.

    Baker should've stuck with the lower B tier anime games (like Tales of Vesperia...granted i have my own issues with that game but they're primarily related with how the story drops hard in the final act when the rest of the game's story was great and less with the voice work so that's all on the writers/Namco. Basically story went from a 8 or 9/10 to a 5 or 6/10 with the act 3 plot twist imo). Ya won't make him a shitload of money like The Last of Us but at the very least he'd be sticking to his ideas that he mentions in this video (if they were ever true that is and he's not talking out his ass to make himself look good...which is just as likely) and he wouldn't be ripped by his fans/past fans like he is being now for defending Naughty Dog's BS agenda driven and likely piece of shit story (i say likely cause i'm not buying the game, wasn't gonna before this whole debacle started though since i don't really care for these type of games to begin with (mainly play jrpgs) but this definitely makes it a no go for me now...have the first game only due to it coming with the PS4 and haven't played it yet and not sure i want to...same with the Uncharted games which i got in the last year or so when the collection went free on PS+ nearly a year ago and 4 went free on PS+ a month or two ago so if i want to see their better works i'll play them and know i never gave this sham of a company any cash at all).

    Druckmann: "I wanted to create one of the coolest, non-sexualized female characters." Well, that's impossible, Druckmann, as someone will always find someone sexually appealing. There are members of the LGBTQIA+ community who find adult Ellie to be quite attractive, though I'm sure he knows that. We all know why Druckmann did this, and we all know why Troy Baker is desperately trying to downplay the events of the leak. I just wish these people would be honest, and not try to gaslight the general audience into believing that gamers hate the Last of Us 2 for misogynistic and homophobic reasons. So, to let the general audience know the truth, I think whenever someone asks why gamers hate the Last of Us 2, we should tell them they pulled a Game of Thrones. Nearly everyone I know who watched that last season hated what the writers did, and those people could absolutely care less about politics and modern day agendas; they hated the last season simply because it was bad. I think if we relate it this way to regular people, they will finally understand what's actually going on.

    The fact that Neil said his goal is to “change the industry” shows how out of touch he is. The role of a director of a game is to create entertainment. Games are suppost to be fun, to distract consumers from the real world, from our jobs which more often than not can be really stressful. When you fall into that white knight mentality of changing things, the soul purpose of entertainment becomes irrelevant, and your left with a product that feels like a huge ego boost for the production team. Also I think Drukkman is full of it, and just is being woke for social clout. They're very hypocritical in their logic regarding character depth and sex appeal. They claim that the females need to be made less attractive so that people see them for their personality. And yet when they show these female characters that are "problematic" they don't talk much about who they are, or are very selective with what information they give about them. They also don't propose reasons as to why they were designed the way they are beyond "it gets the boys' engines running". They claim these beautiful characters have no depth and are only there for eye candy, yet they themselves only look of them at a surface level and use them to push their own agenda. You just default to an ultra masculine character and make it a woman, then make her outshine all the male characters in manly things. It's what EVERY woke writer defaults to, and it STILL feels like you're so incredibly original and ahead of the curve. You just blindly accept that feminine/sexy traits = bad, so if your character's entire premise is being the opposite of that, it's got to be a success, right? Them weak confused girls out there need a kickass rolemodel, so let's give them a disgusting toxic superhuman who would be hated by the woke, if she was a guy. Great plan. In the MCU I bet most,if not all females want to fuck Thor,but that's ok. What about Cpt America?? He's good looking,Frank Castle,for the girls who like bad boys. Come ON!! With this double standard bullshit. There are good looking bumpy men in just about every game,usually with tight clothes on,but that's ok. I've seen,& played Res Evil,& Leon is good looking & A few games was bumpy as Arnold & wore tight shirts. Kid's shouldn't be playing these games,& fuck them if they don't like beautiful women who aren't helpless,but strong,& independent. Lara Croft being the best example, & I'm talking real Tomb Raider, NOT the ResEvil/action/where's the tombs reboots. My era Lara. She set the standard, & she's sexy as hell,& can hold her own,intelligent, whitty,rich,independent, & kicks ass,& puts up with no shit . Women in the real world dress sexy too,for 2 reasons. It makes them feel good,& it grabs men's attention. I don't see the difference between A real woman,& A woman in A ADULT GAME. Princess Peach dresses like A princess,I don't get why she's even in this conversation . This whole new generation is A bunch of wack-a-dos who let their CHILDREN play ADULT themed games ,they shouldn't be playing in the 1st place. I meet more children online(I'm 50,I play nothing but adult games),than I do adults even close to my age . I have A group of friends I've had for years,& they're all teens,2 are 21,& only 1 is 50 like me . It's up to the parents to keep their CHILDREN out of ADULT games,NOT the game creators. This world has changed so much. SMH😑 You youngins wonder why us older folk long for days past..THIS SHIT IS WHY. The world made some kind of sense,it doesn't anymore. If A character was black,he stayed black,if he was Caucasian, he stayed that way. Females were allowed to be sexy,& not helpless,& THERE WERE ONLY 2 GENDERS.

Look if you want to make a character Gay, Trans, or anything else under the sun, make it a part of them, don't focus on it, give them an actual character and treat your audience with respect. If you do that, you can basically write what ever you want, and people will praise you instead of hate you for it.

    The women in the last of us are beautiful , really don’t get why everyone’s saying they are unattractive. And even if they were that’s not the purpose of the character, just like a real life humans purpose is not to look good. There’s nothing wrong with sexy characters but if someone wants to make something more subtle suddenly they’re just pandering to an agenda? Everything has an agenda whether you know it or not. If anything I appreciate Neil for actually expressing his because most of the time you have no idea what message developers are trying to sneak into their games. You can disagree or agree love or hate it, but video games have had tons of sexualized female characters for a long time and again, that’s fine, but it’s also fine to make a game like this where characters feel more like someone you’d run into on the street. I seriously don’t get the uproar about it

  • @youvegotmail6297

    @youvegotmail6297

    UltraPlushie not trying to argue here but I don’t feel that from what he said, to me it feels like he’s just saying that when women turn to video games for representation, examples like quiet, chun li, cortana, etc. are all that they see(more accurately, they are the majority of female representation in games) because he made no comment on the characters personality does not mean he disregards it.That’s a logical fallacy , we can’t draw that conclusion based on information that isn’t there. What we can do is analyze what he did say, and to me it just seems like he who wants to depict a realistic female character that fits into the narrative and the world of that narrative. Whether that agenda is good or bad I’m not the judge of but this hate train is ridiculous and uninformed. And to acknowledge the last thing you said, a character being gay does not equal sexualizing them. Last time I checked, a kiss is not a sex act. And the problem is not with characters having a sexual side or “provocative attire.” Sexuality in itself is entirely natural, but in gaming and especially Japanese media there has been extreme objectification of women (bikini dlc suits for female warriors, 2B revealing outfit from nier automata and so much more that I can’t even list them all) there’s so much of this that even if developers flesh out a female character In the story the game still treats her as a commodity for the player to ogle at. This creates dissonance. There are women who are curvy , women who are thin and everything in between that, who all want to be represented as PEOPLE. That’s all it is. Neil is not saying stop making “attractive” women. It’s that gamers expect objectification, they expect sexiness and they expect their fantasies to be catered to. And of course they do because video games are an escape. However , Neil and the other hardworking individuals that worked to develop the last of us are artists just as any one else who makes a video game is, and secondary to being a product a game is an artistic expression. All art has a message or agenda whether it be implicit or explicit and the artist does not need to apologize for their vision. If you don’t like it by all means don’t support it. No one is blaming you In that. But don’t join this mindless hate train. Learn about it for yourself. Look at gamings history and see how far we’ve come with the last of us. It’s okay if you don’t agree with the politics but it’s unfortunate that the spoilers and gender debates are the focus of the discussion and not the actual damn gameplay

They dumb everything down for all of the people they claim to be fighting for, forcing them into lives of mediocracy. That's true racism/sexism because in their eyes blackey can't compete with whitey so here's some affirmative action, women can't compete with men so here's so more handouts woman. Oh there's an attractive woman on that billboard? Tear it down so we don't make fat people feel bad about having a unhealthy and life threatening lifestyle. This mediocracy is reflected into the characters they create either visually or personaIity-wise and sometimes both. Look at Jill and Lara Croft who had iconic and instantly recognizable designs who are now two chicks in tank-tops and jeans. I don't know if it's extreme empathizing or pity that they're doing but it's condescending nonetheless.

    The last time we saw a video game character savagely beaten to death with a golf club, his last words were to insult the killer by telling him he wasn't worthy of being called a man ("A man chooses. A slave obeys. Obey!"). I'd do the same for the game devs here but they'd probably take "Not worthy of being called a man" as a compliment...

    The first installment of The Last of Us was great, but I think it's clear Neil Druckmann was overwhelmed by the widespread acclaim and must have been under a lot of pressure when creating TLOU2. That's the only way I can justify the blatant SJW propaganda that penetrated the sequel. You don't need to have ripped, perpetually angry & trans bisexual women to accurately portray women. Tess was a great example of a female character done right. Also what is it nowadays about everyone wanting to be represented in every single thing? I don't need to have characters that share my gender identity, sexuality, age, nationality, and beliefs to be able to relate to them.

When Channing Tatum is Magic Mike, are women supposed to be outraged at the objectification? And here's another problem with the whole SEXY BAD meme you people have - sexy women can also be formidable. As in, women can have hot bodies and powerful minds AT THE SAME TIME. And, believe it or not, we on the Ist-Ism-Phobe side of the fandom admire women who aren't hot but are wonderful in other ways. Ayn Rand was a powerhouse. Margaret Thatcher was an ass-kicker. The fact that they try to pass off everybody dissing the game for its terrible writing as "trolls" only shows that Naughty Dog and its supporters have no counterargument, they can't come up with any reasonable defense for Abby getting a Joel in one beyond "He did bad things!" which is far from a satisfactory point. Nor can anybody even make a convincing argument for why Abby looks like a roided out shaved gorilla.

    Actually there is a difference people do not notice. While it is true that male characters are often shirtless, there is mostly never a camera that is focused on their body. Best example are Gladio and Quite. Gladio is just shirtless and no one cares, But in MGS5, the camera is often focussed on Quites tits, ass or even puts her in a silly shower scene. Another example is Tifa in RE7. She wears a sexy outfit and has large breast. But like Gladio, she is not an object. So, its not just about the outfit but about the way the character is presented. But I dont even think those NPC understand that. They just want to erase every naked skin. As if we live in the middle age were it was a scandal when someone saw your naked leg. And making females look like duded in TLOU2 and reduce their breast is sexist too. As if women are not allowed to have tits anymore.
