Trout Spey Tactics and Fishing

Спорт

This time around, we brought the trout spey out for a little streamer fishing in a small creek. It was not the best time of the day for catching a fish a great way to capture some tips on techniques. Hope you find a few in this video and as always, thank you for watching.

When using a trout spey skagit set up are you more inclined to use a weighted versileader than a light mow type tip? Also using a mono running line is there going to be much difference in using 15lb line from say 30lb. I would think the lighter line would probably cast further but the heavier line might be easier to handle. Thank you.

I often go with the Letter polly leaders. The letter rods Turn them over better. The letter running line. on my trout speys Is because I fished very light leaders. Last Water resistant when playing a fish

Well, 1) If you reverse a scandi head you would get a weight forward line not a skagit head. Also, if you attach polyleader to a skagit head, you are practically making it a scandi head. 2) 240 grain is too heavy and 11.6ft rod is too long for that creek. 3) The 240 grain scandi line would turnover that size 8 streamer. So, I would not have reversed it. Also, you are fishing either very calm pools or moderate shallows. I would not use a sinking polyleader for that either. In calm pools waiting a little after the cast would get your fly deep enough, in shallows you do not need to go too deep. 4) 15lb mono as a running line is very risky. If you snag in deep or fast water, there is chance that you may lose the whole head. 30lb mono would not change your casting distance. 5) If you are going to cast 25ft, you do not need spey casting with a 11.6ft rod. Also, doing a skagit a style casting to a fish 25 ft away would scare it. If you like spey casting (I do), I would get 7.6-8ft 4wt single hand rod for that creek and do single hand spey casting. Also, I would only do single spey style casting (no skagit style). My head plus polyleader would not exceed 150grain.

I will try to answer your question the best I can.The main answer for all you questionsis basically,What works best for you. 1. Reversing a Scandi Line is basically, A work around. The fat Rear end of the lineIs basically, Weight forward - Skagit With an attached running line. We have to find the sweet spot the cast 2. When it comes to Selecting the correct land line, The green windows on the ride are just a suggestion. You may have to try a few to see what it's for your rod and fishing. 3. Size 8 streamers I'm not hard to turn over, However once again you need to match the line to the rod for the job. When I am skimmer fishing, I often fish I have your tip because I like to fish fFish fast. I know this is not very helpful, More of of my style of stream fishing. 4. The 15 pound runny line, Can be a little risky however, Where I fish that's more than adequate. I also fish light tidbits. On my heavier tributary rides, I used 40 or 50 pounds. 5. Surprisingly enough, And a short casting Distances you're often in tight spots 11 foot switch rod Is surprisingly easy to fish. The line heating the water Does not seem to bother the fish As much as sloppy waiting. Plus I like to land the fly and the line Above the fish and let it swing into where I'm fishing. I know if you these answers are pretty generalized, And often you're set up as dictated by the fishing conditions and creeks and rivers you are fishing. Hopefully answer the question or two any find them helpful.
