Troublemaker on amateur radio
STORY: I was listening to these two guys in Massachusetts having a nice conversation, when all of a sudden, the guy with the southern accent comes in and starts swearing (illegal) and complaining about the guy's audio (which as you can hear, is perfectly fine), and that he's causing splattering further up the band.
After I stopped filming, other people proceeded to come in and let the protagonist know that there was nothing wrong with his audio. The protagonist's friend tuned up the band, and found the troublemaker on another frequency doing the same thing to another group of hams. Our protagonist gets the troublemaker's call sign and looks him up on the Internet, and finds that he's had several call signs, probably because he keeps ticking people off.
Don't be that kind of ham.

Let's be completely honest, audio compression/processing by it's very nature increases Intermediatory (off frequency) signal levels (splatter), propagation conditions, location/proximity and equipment can all contribute towards the problem however that doesn't mean we can/should verbally abuse other operators, the air waves belong to all and sometimes we just need to move frequency 👍

Just an old hack, no longer fit for conversion and past his time to hang up the mic, rather than sit around being confrontational and fighting with other stations over some bleed over to his frequency which is not his personal property, regardless how long he's been using it. Some people just don't know when it's time to move on to another hobby and are stubborn believing everyone else is the problem.
Anyone know what the meter is on the very bottom that is reflecting very quickly? The S meter is at the top, and is reflecting slowly with the AGC looking like it's slow like it should be, but the bottom one is reflecting the voice peaks very quickly.
If the guy is an extra class, he can use his amp if he wants to. This video is important to me because I was very much thinking about getting into radio again. If this kind of fighting is common, I don't want to get back into it.

Get back into it this is pretty rare to happen most of us are nice.
Unfortunately, there are a few people who are like this. As with Ham radio there is always that person who "Owns" the bands. If he has had several call signs then it sounds like he has been in trouble with the FCC many times and possibly uses fake ID to get new licenses. This person is why some people drop their ham tickets and never find the good things about Ham radio.
I have a Yaesu ft 2000 loaded with bells and whistles. I also have a West Mountain radio DSP. I can tune somebody in so that somebody off to the side is seldom heard. It sounds to me like somebody's running 4K ESSB and an old-timer is still running an ft 101. I don't like it when some of the ESSB guys push it but this guy sounds clear as a bell. But if he's splattering why are they down on 3827 when he was complaining but hearing him on 3830?
There is no requirement to be within 3k. In fact 4k wide is only recommended.
This is the best part of hamb.
I have been on this frequency since 1978. Well Sir, It sounds like it takes you a little longer to learn. Would you like some assistance on how to use your VFO because I will gladly walk you through it?

I am listening to a you tube video so I have little control over tuning. To my experienced ear his audio is clean with a bit of a peak around 1500-2000 hz. he is lighter on bass than the fellow complaining. But that's OK. On FM they call it pre emphasis. it makes for better S/N ratio. he mentioned 3/4 scale on ALC meter. to me he's hitting it a bit hard for a local ragchew, but perfect for DX! I don't hear any distortion, but I am listening to KZread.

A guy like this is usually taken care of by local hams, at least that’s how they were handled 20 years ago. They would usually try to talk with him and explain what he is doing wrong and what laws he is violating and if he continues to do it the locals will record his activity mak detailed notes about time and location of his transmissions and turn him in to the FCC. If he continues they will take his radios and fine him as well as suspend his license.

In the 80's we met up on 3915 every night and usually I ran 100 watts until the hogs started rooting in, I would kick on a home brew 4-1000A in a pressurized big Bud cabinet being shoved by a 10KVA transformer and oil filled caps. It would clear the area just either side of 3915. Some of these guys would just drift right on top of you and in a couple of minutes would drift on by, can you imaging have to follow that person to stay in the conversation. BTW; that amp was super clean.

War between side-band and AM broadcasters I know some of these guys like to restore old AM transmitters use them the ham bands as the power goes up so does the bandwidth.
I've Been a ham for50 yrs now, and this has been going on that long to my knowledge. then and now? the best way to combat this is to ignore them completely. and most times they will go away. and get a fix on his position, and get a call. and turn him in to the FCC. But avoidance works well. this is not indicative of all amateur's. and luckily these guys are few.
Seems like it's always 80 meters.
- so the one guy was, "stepping on" the other guy?
Yeah, this really makes me want to go active again…..
He needs to put more low band crystals on his antenna
The gentleman in Mass. did have fairly sharp audio but not to criticize. We cannot run all the power (1500 watts) we want but only what it takes to complete the QSO. Now, we should not grouch or swear over this type of problem. K1RCA maybe could have run less compression, either party could have moved up or down 1 Kc. (the 75 and 80 meter band is very crowded though). A lot of hams have been around longer than me (since 1986) and they sometimes get a bit upset when newer Hams crowd them; I've been approached about this before. Human nature being what it is says "We've been on this frequency for x number of years so you have to move!" but that ain't the way the rules are written. Enough said, Greg.

When you have no real worries in life you find yourself on 80 meters complaining when things don't go your way. Splattering is often used as an excuse to complain and compare them to CB ops. Ham radios often include filters that work very well for this type of situation but some refuse to use them and if they can hear you they are offended and will non stop complain.
