Trouble With Track Lighting Bulbs
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
It should take less than 30 seconds to change a light bulb, right? I’ve got one track lighting bulb (MR16-GU10) that won’t come out of the socket. I've started using LED dimmable bulbs that last longer and run cooler than halogen bulbs. Links to items mentioned in the video:

Fantastic. I was sorry to see that you were experiencing some difficulties but I was glad to see it, at the same time. This assures that any problems I would have would be covered by your instructions. Thanks for being concise.
You're my new hero. When duct tape failed, you tried to solve your problem using more duct tape. On top of that your video helped me figure out how to get my bulbs out.
I didn't know how much I needed this video in my life - KZread is amazing! Thanks so much!

Great video; much appreciated. I had no idea how to remove these bulbs until I saw your video.
Thanks for the video. If this method of taping fails, my other recommendation is to put the tab around the bulb and make a holder in the middle with the tapes and then twist 👍🏼
Thank you for posting this...here I am 8 years later & so relieved I don't have to buy a whole new light fixture! The tape worked!

This fixture was in the house when we bought it. The previous owners hadn't changed the bulbs, for obvious reasons. We managed to get them out using tape. (Our so-called needlenose pliers were too fat.) The people who designed this stuff should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity.

The duct tape trick at :40 did the trick! Thank you!
So, for 3 days my brother had a go at removing the light bulb and gave up but I wasn't about to let a light bulb get the better of me. First he tried simply twisting, no go. He tried the duct tape, nothing. Even tried pulling with a thin bent over screw driver some one had mentioned. That didn't work because these are twisted on. Then I put on thin surgical type gloves, tried with one hand, still no good. I put both gloved thumbs at each side and twisted. It gave a little, then I tried once more and it worked! My brother couldn't believe it! I agree, whoever invented these lights was a nut!!!

Thanks! I used another idea to remove the bulbs with suction cups, but one popped the lens off. So I stuffed it with ducttape and pliers got it off! At first it broke the inner bulb out but I stuffed it again with tape, this time jamming needlenose pliers in the socket, pulling the pliers open, then turning to pull the remained out. use gloves!
Thank You SO Much!

Thank you thank you lol I never would’ve thought of using duct tape do you are a genius. I cut my finger but I totally did it lol
Thanks buddy.. Tape did the trick
You can also use a suction cup attached to the front of the bulb, then you can safely insert or remove halogen bulbs in fixtures like that. Your fingers will never touch the bulb that way. That is what I use. (You can use the ones you find in the drugstore used for hanging stuff on windows with)

I got an annoying issue with mine, it has 4 LED GU10 bulbs, but only 1 works. The other 3 just keep flickering. At first all 4 worked then 1 started to flicker and now eventually 3 are flickering. Even worse, now the only one that works has started to flicker and the whole room goes dark. How do I fix this? I can swap the bulbs around but it's always that 1 spot that works (half the time)
@Iscaper

I would try a new bulb and if that doesn't work it may mean you have a bad bulb base.

@@Harpreet06 My LED bulb are lasting a couple of years which is much better than the halogen bulbs I was using that only lasted a few months.
Wow, thanks. These fixtures are a real pain. I tried smashing the glass, covered with tape for protection, but that glass is strong and I couldn't break it. You must have really tried hard to get the bulb out. The second time I tried the duct tape tip, it worked! Then I needed to use it again on another bulb. One more to go! Lifesavertip. Whoever designed these bulbs needs to burn in hell...or touch one of these bulbs when they are hot! LOL

You're welcome!
I am mystified as to why anyone would even want track lighting, given that it seems you must stand on a chair or ladder, crane your neck upwards (you can't get at eye level with it without bumping your head on the ceiling), reach with both arms above your head, fiddle with tubes and wires and pliers and lenses (and now, sellotape), and push your fingers into an electrical device just to change a bulb! And there could be three to six of them! Not what I call a user friendly product. The house I just bought has track lighting in the kitchen. I am having it replaced with lighting that takes energy efficient bulbs which one can easily unscrew and replace in ten seconds without risking some type of bodily harm.
It was the plies for me.
Thanks for the trick using tape. The fixture and bulb are design failure. You could cut your fingers or make you blind if the glass break.

You don't mention turning light off or even the circuit breaker. Some people may not know this and could get shocked.
Duct tape! Genius! It worked....
I wish I had the kind of brain that would think of the tape trick. Alas...
Next time use bulb grease, better contact and easier to remove
you should mention to remember to shut off the breaker so you don't get shocked!
Ohhh... That's SO annoying when that happens!!!

+Donna M. Schmid I like how the track lights look, but it would be nice if they would re-design the shades so they could be removed and thus make it easier to change the bulbs.

These bulbs aaarrrrhhhhhhhh
holy dick I don't know why GU10 bulbs are considered "superior" to a regular screw in. this is absolutely ridiculous.
Not to mention - ugly! (Looks like mall lighting)
This is not track lighting
What idiot designed a lighting system that is so difficult to access for maintenance, and requires duct tape or suction cups to change the light bulb?
thankyou ! come to know Jesus today if you haven't done so today :)
I won't buy these lights.
Just don’t ever buy these kinds of fixtures. Not worth the frustration
