I had a chance to meet this wonderful and humble musician in high school but I turned it down. Biggest regret of my life. I'm 41 now I wish I could have meet James that would be cool

Wow incredible!! He does it like it's no big DEAL! Please someone explain why he is not using the trombone slide?? Is that s valve and slide trombone??

It's a combination of playing in the upper harmonics where everything is closer together and using the trigger for the F attachment to facilitate notes that aren't on that first position.

Bit of a late answer, but he has a trombone with vienna keys which are sort of jammed in between the 2 trombone parts. There is another video on yt where he does this same thing live on a stage and with that angle you can see the valves.
