I…..I think I get it whenever we see an inspector, they always talk about needing more space and at 1:13 see one of the infected talking about needing a bath and more space and we see that when velvet was infected, he turned into a Rager and that her head separated from the body so what I think is that the spores need a large host and need a wet environment. You essentially roll as seen in 1:13 we see a bunch of living trees, so perhaps that is the final stage of the infection and the reason why trolls say they need more space is because the body is not big enough
