Trolling for Walleye in Lake Erie with Nightcrawlers

Спорт

We're out on Lake Erie trolling for walleye. We're trolling at about 2 Mph, using SP Viper Spoons, baited with nightcrawler worms and trolling for those walleye along the bottom. Antonio and I have on a pre-tied bait rig, the one with no hooks - just snaps. This way we can snap on the sinkers to get us to bottom, and snap on/off Viper Spoons as you go.

    I’ll tell you something Zico a lot of times the sheepshead will steadily tap your line while your reeling it in. I use to fish Lake Erie back in the seventies and eighties that’s how we could tell the difference. It didn’t always work but for the most part it did. Now for what your doing now we use to fish over on the west side out from port Clinton it’s called niagra reef there’s a trough about sixteen feet deep we would get at one end and drift to the other with the same set up your using it worked good 👍

    You could also slow down to get deeper without adding more weight. Could also use braid but probably not a good idea for walleye. There's typically not just 1 or 2 options but maybe only 1 or 2 good options lol

    Is that a rocky bottom? If the bottom is weedy would u use the same bottom bouncing system or switch to something different?

  • @thundermistlures

    @thundermistlures

    5 жыл бұрын

    the bottom is rocky/muddy - if fishing sparse weeds, you can use the same system but to ensure your viper spoon is above the weeds while you are trolling, just use a longer dropper line to your sinker and then a shorter line to your Viper Spoon - for example, if the weeds are 3 feet high, you can use a 4' line to your sinker and a 1 foot line to your viper spoon.If the weeds are thick, you will then need to keep your sinker above the weeds totally - good luck out there :)

    ...the salmon will have started to slowly make there way into the lower river...you can fish Queenston boat bock area on the CDN side or Lewiston Boat dock area on the USA side - of course, the bass and walleye will be on the bite as well, and if you want to really have some fun, target carp - another great spot to fish from shore on the CDN side is down the whirlpool - all kinds of fish there and big muskies as well - hope you have an outstanding trip :)
