Thank you.
On the move in the city, beyond in the agglomeration or other regions of Switzerland - the public transport (ÖV) offers a dense network with numerous connections almost around the clock.
You have the choice in Bern: Tram, bus, Postbus, night bus, S-Bahn, InterRegio and InterCity trains... Use public transport to get to work, shopping, leisure time and holidays. They support urban and environmentally compatible mobility.
The first forms of public transport were horse-drawn omnibuses . At the end of the 1870s, a line ran from the Kaefigturm via today's Eigerplatz and Schönegg to Wabern, but it only ran four times a day. The facility, known by the population as the Rösslitram , was not a success, so that the driver became insolvent.
From October 4, 1885, a two-horse carriage ran hourly or half-hourly on the line between the station and Bärengraben, which was referred to as a tram-omnibus service . The line was later extended to the Bremgarten cemetery. Nevertheless, the service was unsuccessful and was discontinued in 1889 due to a lack of passengers.
On September 1, 2019, Bernmobil joined the national fare dodger register . In 2019, Bernmobil ordered new Tramlink trams from Stadler Rail , the first of which was delivered in February 2023 from the workshop in Valencia with three trailer trucks . Also for 2023, 14 battery buses were ordered from Irizar . The charging stations are supplied by Siemens .
On November 1, 2020, the partially revised institutional regulations came into force. In December 2020, the administrative board (board of directors) was elected for the next four years by the municipal council for the first time. In 2020 and 2021, the pandemic resulted in losses of around CHF 20 million each.
In 2022, 87.4 million passengers were recorded, around 15 percent fewer than before the pandemic. Since 2021, the required electricity has no longer been purchased from Energie Wasser Bern , but directly from an electricity exchange on a daily basis .In 2022 it became known that Bernmobil would no longer have gas buses by 2025 at the latestwant to drive more, which were also operated with biogas for a while and are to be replaced by electric and hybrid buses .Bernmobil is pursuing the goal of achieving completely climate-neutral operation on the city network by 2035.
