    Maturity would include the ability to shrug off words or find some humour in them.. while crying over words or lacking the confidence to say what you really want to say because of peer pressure would be immaturity. Y'all a bunch of adults with the mindset of children. It's kinda cute but it's also really sad.

  • @grettoonist4997

    @grettoonist4997

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@PrimePhilosophy Then you haven't paid attention to this video, or don't understand it. When I was younger, I used to think Internet trolls just pulled pranks on people like Rickrolling them. Even if they were associating this with a link to a funeral procession, it may have been tasteless, not even that funny, but I definitely knew that I could handle that and as someone who had and still has a thick skin. I think that's required of people on the Internet. Besides, I still believe in freedom of speech. So it wouldn't really bother me. But it turns out that trolls don't just do stupid things for attention and laugh at the reaction. It turns out that people doxxing others are trolls. It turns out that people spreading lies about someone with a disapproving opinion, leading to them not getting the job they wanted because the applicant believed those lies. They can be trolls, too. For the latter, we need to educate ourselves and future generations that you shouldn't believe everything you see on the Internet. We use this mentality to avoid buying into scams, and when cases of cancel culture arises, we need to use the same mentality. It's much more intelligent and efficient than the mentality a startling amount of people are using today, where they believe all that the trolls say because they're too lazy or stupid to proofread and so demand everyone be the same. This mob mentality has caused people like ProJared and those willing to hear him out to suffer, even if in that case, it wasn't instigated by trolls. As for the former, we need to put our foot down and realise that trolls do this too. Doxxing is going further than pulling pranks and telling mean jokes, it's destroying people's lives, and that is not a good thing. As the Internet becomes increasingly intertwined with real life, we should no longer propagate the myth that the Internet isn't a part of real life, and that those who "can't take it" need to just get off. Are the stores that no longer accept cash and instead rely on payment processors like PayPal not a wake-up call? Are the figures that Facebook, Google and KZread boast not a wake-up call? Are all the jobs that can only function with use of the Internet not a wake-up call either? For most people, the Internet is just as significant for their livelihoods as a car. And you don't see people telling those affected by drunk drivers' accidents to get off the highway if we "can't take them"! Bottom line is, recognise how trolling goes deeper than you think. It's not just people telling mean jokes and laughing when the other side throws a fit. That's what a lot of people generally think of when they think of Internet trolling, just petty antics. But this poem highlights just how further it goes.

    Why is it assumed that all trolls have it good and every victim has it bad? You don't think alot of trolls I would say even the majority do it because of a bad upbringing. What if the troll was the orphan taking the rage that was his life out on some random rich kid on the internet who's fragile psyche was caused by his parents getting him everything he wanted and him not being able to handle that someone could do this to him? Not all trolls had a good life. Not all victims had a bad life. Pushing this idea causes so many problems in the entire debate. Stop. Whether you think trolling should be allowed or not is made completely irrelevant because you don't even understand it. Stop.

    Thomas Stewart reading a hate comment or any online ridicule isnt something you can brush off. If someone in real life said you look retarted or you're ugly you can tell them off. But online you are helpless. no one can come and defend you because they arent throwing fists they are throwing knives that go straight to the heart they cannot be stopped. even if you turn off your computer the scar still remains. the pain of someone wanting to hurt you without even seeing your real face or have ever truely talked to you cuts deeper than turning off a computer screen can heal. when you turn of your computer screen you are letting the fuckers win. they now control you. physically limiting what you can and cannot do. this is a power they cannot have. if you think trolls should be able to force someone to turn off their own computer. you make me sick. the fact that u think someone deserves to die because they dont want to give in to these soul-less fuckers is malevolent and apauling.

    for people that want to read along: Once upon a time, You and all your kind lived underneath bridges, Had ridges for ribs that dropped off into empty chests as if your Hearts were all stolen treasures, As if an excavation crew were hired to dig up and remove the part Of you that let you feel. And while the world above you invented the wheel, you stayed put, Knowing it would one day need to roll over top of you to get to Where it's going. You had an endlessly flowing supply line of food. You began to brood over humanity and made meals of our hope, As if crushing our spirits would make your mirrors cast better Reflections than the ones they gave, As if the only way you could save yourselves was to make the world Ugly so no one would notice you hiding in it. You learned to knit pain into a kind of camouflage, Treated hope like a mirage that you could use to lure in your next meal. You lived off of our fears, as if you could taste what we feel. And every night, as the moon read bedtime stories to sunlight. You took darkness as an invite to head out into the world, You curled your hands into wrecking balls, your breath became Squalls, you made rocks rumble, you made land shiver You made boys and girls pray that someone would deliver them From you We told them you aren't real. Then one day, the world changed, but you all stayed the same. Just migrated from living underneath bridges to living underneath Information super-highways. Days and nights became meaningless, each already deepened Chest became an abyss that no one would ever find the bottom of. Concepts like love fell into your gravity, we turned ourselves into Live preservers, hoping to save as many as we could, But the fathers who stood guarding closet doors and the mothers Who secured the floors underneath beds, All shook their heads not knowing how to deal with you. You, who crept into our lives with tongues like knives stabbing your Words into our skin. You began to begin uploading yourselves into our homes you had Computer screens for eyes, and software for bones. You turned your hate into stones and hurled them at beauty, As if you couldn't bear to see anything other than ugly, anything Different. You had fingernails like flint, and scraped them along decency hoping we would be the ones to all catch fire. You all had smiles like one-way barbed wire not meant to keep us Out, Meant to keep us in Voice like a firing pin, you spoke in explosions It isn't cute. It isn't funny. You've talked strangers into death, and laughed. And as each family learns to graft skin over the wounds you gave them, you hem yourselves into the scar. You have coaxed the sober back into bars, Handed out cigars at memorials, Offered nooses, cliffs, and pills to those who unfortunately found You before they found help. You have praised suffering, Waltzed in between tragedies, Gracefully dipping misery as if we would somehow be impressed With the dexterity of your animosity. You have cheered on rape, dashed through police tape as if it were The finish line in a race of who can be awful first. Even now, You somehow see this as an invitation to turn your keyboards into Catapults, Wondering which of you can be the first to hate this best. Your loathing, already dressed in riot gear, Ready to incite rage, As if each message board is a stage, Where you recite hostility, Turning freedom of speech into freedom of cruelty. We are stuck with you, the same way you are stuck with you. Your mind is glue, and it keeps malice fastened there like cheap Wallpaper. We were once upon a time told that none of you exist, we Dismissed you as make believe or myth. Now armed only with resolve, we can no longer afford to tell Ourselves that you aren't real. We will not let you make your dinners out of the things we feel.

    you know what, what if we just cut off all comments on youtube. prevented anyone from commenting on a video, would things be more quiet? more peaceful? as much as i wish "trolling" would stop i don't think it would. people always say "learn to take a joke" or "stop being a pussy" yet trolls always forget they're talking to an actual human being on the other side of the screen. people defend trolling by saying it isn't the same as bullying but what difference is there? it pains me to know people on the verge of suicide because of trolling, and those who say that what this man is saying is too serious or incorrect then i don't know what else to say to you. apparently bullying can be hilarious and justifiable if you called it trolling.

    And I'm tired of "the line between trolling and cyberbulling is thin!" No, it's not Trolling is when one says or does something to elicit a reaction of some sort. Typically anger When looking at it, it's like the digital equivalent of a prank. It's supposed to provoke a reaction for a short amount of time and if done properly can be something to laugh about Cyber bulling is trying to make their victim feel like utter shits. Cyber bullies stalk your online activity, spread false rumors about you, doxx you, or any of the nasty things you've heard on news. Do some cyber bullies hide underneath trolling sometimes? Sure. But the same could be said for literally anything else. There is a difference

  • @erismason3441

    @erismason3441

    9 жыл бұрын

    Jamar Coach Yes, because the line between pranks and being a hurtful jackass is oh so very thick... True internet trolls were harmlessly funny and tended to feign stupidity for laughs; they're mostly extinct nowadays. But most of the time, trolling is a lower form of cyberbullying for exactly the reason you gave. Trolls want to elicit angry responses from people anyway they can. Why is making people upset and hurting their feelings ok? Pranks and trolling are only ok so long as the victim laughs with you. Most trolls want to get laughs from everyone except their victims, whom they don't care about at all.

    Jared Carter I agree. What I meant was more like I think we, as a nation and a culture, could stand to have a deep discussion on the value, purpose and meaning of "freedom of speech." I feel sometimes we take that freedom for granted and interpret it to mean we can say anything we want regardless of consequences, or without consequences. You raise an important point: how to teach empathy? Can it be taught? I don't believe it's about people being 'nice', because nice too easily masks an inner malice. But I think we can debate, argue, disagree, and even fight and still be civil and respectful about it.

    The only real way to deal with trolls is a sword and shield. I look at the comments and I see so many people complaining about this video. I can see that they've done exactly what trolls do. They whine, they complain and get offended when their mischief is challenged. But this guy is a knight clad in armor. He isn't afraid of you. You're afraid of him, because not only is he taking you on, but also because he's giving out swords and shields to everyone through this video. It's time for you guys to suck it up. Trolling may not be bullying, but it can lead to it. Know when to stop.

    There is a difference between trolling and cyberbullying, but the line is so fine and the difference is so tiny it's hardly relevant. To quote Jonathan Enter, the difference between trolling and cyberbullying is the difference between your first high and addiction. Trolling, no matter how benign, can tear open wounds, burn down walls, shatter safe havens, feed insanity and even kill human beings. One push, no matter how light, can undo so much.

    I think this hits a bigger issue, bullying, not just trolling in general. I lost my best friend in 2012. Her name was Sam. Now, in memory of her battling strength with depression, I go by Sam, too. Her death date was the 27th, it was 2 years ago then. She would have liked this poem. Loved it. She always had liked Shane when I read him to her.

    Words hurt, so we must be strong. If a single blazing sentence of stranger can tear and burrow beneath your skin so harshly how do you stand the eyes that judge you with righteous familiarity? Who has made you so paper thin that even now my words cut at you with the double edged sting of truth? Your confidence and self identity so fragile that I can shatter it without ever knowing who you are? Where are your parents to comfort you, your friends to assure you? Have you no love or strength in your life? No... Then it won't get better... Not easily at least, not if you stay like that, not if you're naive and see only beauty and innocence in this world. Words hurt but this world can hurt so much more, so you must be strong. You think my minor pin pricks, prods and jests tattoo a flourish of poisonously inked poetry across your wrists? Is that what you see or are you wrapping my words like a bandage to hide the cuts your peers and loved ones carelessly scrape out of you everyday?

    They were meant to build you up and cement your sense of self but instead they've torn you down or else I wouldn't have gotten in. Not with simple words and a glancing blow of your scanning eyes. So come and meet me since I've drawn your hot blooded rage, I am here, something you can argue with, something you can fight... But you can't win. You can never win verse me, from that first blow the battle is mine. As you slink away with wounded pride I've left my veil of snide remarks hanging over you. They'll be there when you walk into the daylight, when your peers grind against you making you weak... Maybe, just maybe they'll armor your weak flesh, "nothing you haven't heard before from worthless nobodies" and you'll steel yourself a little more against shattering in a beautifully cruel world. Perhaps though you'll shatter... And through the falling glass of your facade everyone that made you weak will see me... And my veil of words will shield them.

    +fivefs You took my bait so I set my hook. I enjoyed the tug-o-war between us but none of it hurt me, I didn't have the hook in my mouth, it wasn't personal or spiteful not for me. You could learn from it, next time swim past the hook, ignore the worm twisting. I learned it, I was once a fish like you. I've been Trolled into a boat seen above the silver lined surface into how some parts of life are harsh and leave you gasping for air. It wasn't what drove me to stand bridges edge staring into the raging river that could sweep it all away... Who the hell thinks that way? I shouldn't give a stranger the time of day. It's the people who don't want to say that they wore us away.

    +fivefs Make me a monster, shape me a Troll. Take the verb and create your noun to fit your notions and lying beliefs. The boogieman is stealing your children not the school yard bully with a new way to use keys and force their way into your house without mercy. Not a blind eye as technology raises unrealistic views bound to crack and break them against reality. I'll sit here and cast my line to troll the waters for fish seeking to fight hooked words that mean nothing compared to the everyday onslaught. You'll make a creature of legend as I simply seek to teach lessons mankind seems to forget. You'll shove bloody rag in my hand when I was one of the many words of comfort offered and ignored while you had offer nothing at all. I'd rather be a mountainous troll that challenged that poor soul than the shadow that hung over them as they weakly slipped away!

Saying trolling in general sad, is like saying all comedians are sad. Trolls are just internet comedians, who 99.9% of the time don't get paid.

    It only shows that Shane is correct...it weeds out the trolls in a way, to show who to look out for. And people who don't see trolling as bullying...bullying can take multiple forms. As long as the bully can find a prey that is an easy target for their physical or vocal abuse... And remember the saying, "Sticks and Stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me"...is very inaccurate. Broken bones can heal with time...words will forever be remembered and it will take its toll. So this isn't about not being able to handle it...it's about just watching as someone gets berated, mocked and harassed for no reason except for being an easy target. That's what a bully wants, and call them what ever you want, they will be known by their true form: the same school yard bully who decided that insults on the playground wasn't enough, they had to go to cyberspace to find new targets

But it doesn't seem that way anymore. I wish I could write without having to worry about hostile judgment. I should feel safe. Safe in the one place where I don't have to communicate face-to-face.
