An honest owner's review and ride of Triumph Tiger Rally Pro 900. Took a 50/50 ride on pavement and dirt. Giving you my opinion of the motorcycle as an owner. Not to mention the great Idaho scenery.

    So I got my bike finally in late Dec. 900 Rally Pro. I added lower and upper Outback Motortek guards and back plate, double take mirrors, Hepco and Becker handguards, Handlebar Risers 30mm up and 20mm back, and tons of Mosko Moto soft bags and gear...(way too much $!!). And Mission Trailmax 50/50 tires, I use my GoPro and Insta360X3 a lot also. In short, I LOVE this bike. All the things you mentioned. Great video! Thanks

    Great video. I've got one of those! I agree with your observations. It's plenty of bike and seems like it'll do anything. I like the GPS & mount and your hand guards. I'll be following your link from another comment. I'm looking at working on the egos with lower pegs and maybe bar risers right now, then I think I'll be totally set. 👍

    Thanks for the excellent video. I'm 76 and live in the US so a video made in the US is much appreciated. It seems that 9 out of 10 vids about the Rally Pro 900 are made in the UK and they just don't have the off-road spaces that we do. I'm looking for a long-range road bike but able to get off the road when I get there. (Key West to The Dempster) Weight is an issue these days so the 900 Tiger is appealing.

    Hi Jim, thank you! The Rally Pro is a great bike for off-roading. If you just occasionally ride off-road you may want to consider the GT Pro. Quite similar, but has a few more on-road creature comforts (electronic suspension for example). The range for me is about 200 miles per tank. I can reach 230 miles if I baby the bike at an average of 50 mph. The bike can be quite heavy at slower speeds with it's 480 lbs wet weight, but defintiely lighter than any offering from BMW. I think you might enjoy this channel: www.youtube.com/@MySeniorMoments . He is around your age and may offer better advice than me. Safe riding!

    Great video, I have the same bike here in the UK, not had it long and currently sorting some choice accessories. I am waiting for my Garmin zumo XT to arrive and then working out a mounting solution, I had considered the grab bar for the screen so may well go that route incorporating a Touratech locking mount...Kind regards from the UK...ride safe.

    Agreed all around, great video! I have a Rally Aragon and really the only thing I don't like about it is the stupid speedometer being nearly 10% off. I've done testing with multiple devices and there is no question it is 10% optimistic. The Odometer is dead accurate, so the bike knows exactly what speed it is going but chooses to display it wrong on purpose.

    Thanks for your effort to make a vlogg. I’m down in Ketchum and just picked up a GT Pro. I’m 68 and got myself a new knee in 2020 and a new ankle in 21. Motorcycles were my life as a punk till I moved here in 80 and became a mountain biker. With my replacements I’m told I need to tone it down so there’s the GT. It’s been 42 years since I rode motorcycles on a regular basis. I had the Dunlop’s installed first thing. The dirt roads heading out of Ketchum and Hailey are graded with 1” pea gravel. It’s like riding on ball bearings. The Trail Max Missions are not inspiring confidence yet. Do you mess with tire pressure at all? I’m tempted to get a more aggressive tire for the front. I’m fine with the rear moving around but having the front moving gets my heart rate up.

  • @Idagonia

    @Idagonia

    I love Ketchum! I was just down there recently. I don't change my tire pressure at all honestly. I just ride with the conditions. Even in sand. I know that 1" pea gravel you speak of. If you're looking for traction, the Continental TKC80 might be worth looking at. Great reviews in the looser stuff. I haven't tried it myself but may be worth a try.

    In addition to the tires and pressure, you can adjust the suspension to the off-road settings mentioned in the manual (basically, highest preload in front, lower in back) to give a slightly more relaxed rake angle. Tires are always a trade off--the more aggressive you get with front tread for gravel or dirt, the less confidence it will have at high speed on road. I don't have the 900RP yet--still riding a dinosaur DR650, but I can see a Rally Pro in my future.

    There is not an easy fix... as far as I know. I spoke with the dealer at length about it. They said it's a firmware item and Triumph very rarely releases firmware updates for their motorcycles. The tech at the dealer did say that you could find the right rim and tire size to match the speedo. The speedo reader is on the rear brake caliper. He suggested a much lower tire profile should do the trick.

    Great footage. I ride an Africa Twin DCT in the UK but tried a 900 Rally of a fiend of mine in the US. I was very taken with it’s comparative lightness, agility but planted feel even on off-road biased tyres. It has bar risers and Corbin seat and a remap. I like it a lot especially the low rev drive of the engine. The engine vibrates more than a 120 degree triple but not unpleasantly so. I tried one here last week and found the engine to be the weak point from a vibration stand point. How was that for you and want gas mileage do you get? Many thanks, Ian

    It’s interesting to hear of your speedometer observation being off by about ~2mph because I noticed that about my BMW F900R. My previous bike, a Ninja 650, was also off, but I also geared the bike a little lower too without applying a speed healer. I figured with the higher end bikes that use all these electronics and such rather than the Ninja 650, which I presume just relies on simple math in relation to the stock sprocket and chain setup from the factory, would be more accurate, but s with you, my F900R reads about 2mph faster as well. Interesting…

    With many bikes changing the gearing should not affect the speedo reading as most readings come off the front wheel. I have a SuperTenere and a T7 which are about 8-9 kph out, whilst my Triumph ThruxtonR is near to spot on. Having said that, I only ever ride by the speed on my GPS on the dual purpose bikes.

And the 19 inch front tire on the GT line makes the road manners better. They don't come with as many ride modes as the Rally, but I think it's just the off-road modes you are missing. I'm currently trying to make this decision myself. I am used to a 37 inch seat height, so even the rally pro seems pretty short to me. I've also read that the Rally Pro is "more interesting" to ride than the GT, but I don't know how or why. I hope to be able to test ride both at some point so I can figure out which one I want.
