Triumph Tiger 660 Sport - A Good Winter Bike?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

With autumn truly here and winter just around thee corner, all the shiny bikes being put away, I take another look at the Triumph Tiger 660 to test its ability for a winter motorcycle.

I have one and its a brilliant bike apart from the screen! I took mine off and replaced it with a Puig sports screen which is substantially lower but cuts out all wind buffeting. Thanks Taym for all your hard work and entertainment. Regards from Spain

Great commentary, and I agree with all your points. I test rode one (from Ling's of course!) when buying my first big bike - I liked it but I thought it a tad small if you're over 6 feet, and the engine and performance didn't seduce me like the Ninja 1000sx's in line 4. A different bike though, and I would be very happy to own and live with the 660 Sport.

Hiya Mr. Taym. That engine sounds butter smooth, the bike looks fantastic, The ride looks spot on, but it`s the cash, every time. Triumph. All the bike any single rider needs, but there`s better out there, for less cash even from Japanese makes, and if you sell on after three years you lose too much cash, both buying and selling.

Tested one of these and I liked it. The engine is beautiful. But a lot of £ which most triumphs are. For a winter bike Taym 9k is whoooah. Second hand? It was this or the vstrom for me after multiple bike test rides of many bikes. In the end I went on reputation for reliability. I’ve never owned a triumph and I crave a bonneville like yours but my friends that have them seem to have electrical issues not on the bonny but the 3 cylinder bikes. Undeniably nice bike and lovely in that blue. God I wish I was rich😂. All these delicious bikes, then I see the classics at the shows you take us to and I want all them too. It’s funny at one time I really wouldn’t have looked at a 500 or 650 bike now having gone from hyper bike to 650 I wonder why I didn’t before. My v strom is 70bhp the same as my all time fave bike my 1977 honda 750 4. I used to think the honda was very fast and I suppose it was. I am finding 70bhp ideal for me, my age etc. pillion looks a bit precarious for mrs

Blue Smartie it may be colour wise but I hardly see it getting banned for miss-behaviour 😂 It reminds me of my old Tiger 1050 Sport, a bike I felt sure Triumph would upgrade with the 1200 engine but didn't 😩 I guess such a move would have been a robbing Peter to pay Paul scenario for Triumph.

I had to have the lowered seat on my KTM and a lowering kit on my Tiger 1050 Sport when I owned it. Took mine 2500 miles to Tuscany earlier this year. Very comfy, forgiving and a lazy riders dream. It'll pull from 20mph in 4th. For an overtake you dont need to downshift, you just do it out of habit. There is no room for a centre stand, the ugly parts of the exhaust system are tucked underneath

Another top class videon TAYM Oh! but what a stupid screen. Maybe it was designed by "stylists" more used to designing ladies shoes, but really not by anyone who understands airflow . The Screen when raised leaves a wide gao between the lower edge and the fixed bodywork. That "hole" invites the air, compresssed by the screen, to rush in to fill the low pressure area behind the screen and the resulting vortex is splashed all over the rider. The screen should have been lower and able to slide over the bodywork when the screen is lowered ( edit - I meant " raised" ) . I'd want a flat seat with no fittings for a pillion. Just look at the gap between the back wheel and the almost non existent mudguard. That'll make the back end super filthy. Probably a great engine but the rest is awful.

I don't quite get what Triumph were thinking with this one. As a shortie I can tell you it's not very accesible for shorter riders I really find it too tall and in fact the old Tiger 800 or the new 900 with the cast wheels with their seats in the lowest position are easier to get on than the 660 for short riders. I also think that you can buy a low mileage 800xrt with all the options and luggage for less money than this is. To me this is a model that makes very little sense in Triumph's line up.
