Triumph T140 - Dunstall replica silencers mufflers - AMAL Mk2 setup see description

The basic AMAL Mk2 setup I use is for the non EPA config:-
Needle - 2A1 - Needle clip position 4th from the top
Needle Jet - .106
Main Jet - 200 (I may try the 210 again at a later date)
Throttle slide No 3.5
No air jet
Mixture screw turns out - 1.75 (one and three quarters (+ or - 1/8))
Plugs - NGK B6ES
Silencers are the replica Dunstall type with three extra holes drilled out the end of each one using a 10mm drill to give a little more gas flow. (if you are using the non linked header pipes you will definitely need to do this)
Thanks to everyone who has joined the channel, your support is much appreciated, I am starting a new and used online motorcycle parts store and will be adding products as much as I can and each product I sell will be the funding for more products for the store.
If you would like to visit the new online motorcycle parts store, its called Motorcycle Merchandise and the link to the Website is:-

think i fanally got my t140d right, it has the fctory 2 into 1 and collector box, tried a pattern silencer but was too quiet and felt slightly restrictive,so stuck with the reverse cone mega sounds awesome a pulls like a train but obviously upsetts the carbs a little, did the 2a1 set up but didnt know about the air jet till i saw your other video,so after 2 years offf pissing about took out the air jets and now tickover is mutch better and even, plugs pretty good colour got my air screws at 1 1/4 feels about right. using 210 mains .mine has a spitfire exhaust cam so she pulls hard from 2500 rpm i thnk were done now kin mk2"s also using b6es

Hi lovely bike.I have the same model with original dunstall decibels but bike seems to be running rich and the plugs always seem sooty.Any suggestions how to fix this.I do realise this could be any of a thousand things lol.Is it worth moving the clip on the needle higher? Also what octane fuel do you use?any help you can give would be appreciated.

Hi Grant I fixed mine in the end by plugging the balance pipe so the bike thinks it has two seperate pipes, I also have moved the clip up one position on the needle

Hi, I'm running a 78 Bonnie, just had it three months, and trying to get the mixture right, been running a bit rich. I've blocked off the balance pipe and dropped my needles down one notch. I got rid of much soot, and just had some sort of ignition failure, still trying to figure it out. I think you've really got it close, the sound is clean, clear, only that fouled plug looks not quite right. Hate that I'm watching yours because you're doing the same thing, except if you get it right. Thanks, interesting question, those mufflers.

What's the three holes necessary for? I've got a 76 Triumph T140V with no balance pipe, and I'm running the Dunstall Red Cap Megatons. It runs like a champ, and sounds Bad Ass. I'm curious as to the need of the three drilled holes, and will it be beneficial for my performance?

Mine are not Dunstall silencers they are universal ones and only had a small hole to let the exhaust gasses out which strangled my bike at higher rpms, drilling the holes gave me a better gas flow. If your bike runs like a dream I would leave it alone and not mess with anything.

Hi Gareth B8ES are Champion N3 equivalent, the parallel carb head is cooler than the splayed head so a hotter plug is needed, Triumph suggest a N5 which is the B6ES equivalent :D

@@OldBiker yea i use b6es,bought some 3 1/2 slides just in case, gonna put needle clip in no2 from top not the middle and stick with the 3"s if plugs look shitty then try the no 3 1/2 slides ,right old game lol,i just feel on the 2c3 set up the bike has more to give?stick with the 200 mainsm15 pilots and a 35 cold start i found the 50 way to ritch.

To be honest, going back to the 2A1 setup makes the bike feel much better and more responsive than using the 2C3 setup, if you use the 3 1/2 slides with the 2A1 keep needle the clip in the middle as a start, there are so many ways to set the carbs up and I have noticed that when you make just one simple change like moving the clip position up or down one slot, you notice the difference straight away the minute you start the bike by the way it idles without even touching the throttle.
