@@madrail9103 I’m still totally new and getting into inlays now. I’ve heard a good way is to start with a standard v-cut graver and then move to flat graver to widen the “v” and then do your undercuts.

@@TyrellKnifeworks ahh right that makes sense. I've done a bit of v groove engraving (the hammering method) and the main thing I struggled with was the depth, and also the lack of a spinning vise. I want to get into it at some point soon but I feel I need to improve my other skills a bit more first.

@@madrail9103 The hammering method is really hard to get consistent depth. You really need a pneumatic engraver for consistent work... they are expensive though.

I tried to get into engraving. Doing the engraving and getting good at it is one thing. Making the design is my biggest hurtle. I can’t draw (not well enough) or have the imagination to apply it to paper. It takes a real artist to create a design.

Alec Steele did a bunch of videos a while back on engraving. I think he even took an entire course on it. Very tough nut to crack. Pretty much an entire skill set on its own. The biggest thing is it’s really hard to fix errors. I have no doubt you’ll become proficient…practice, practice, practice. Take a course if you can find one. I think Alec went to one in TX. Good luck with it! Looking forward to seeing it in future videos.
