"Triple Canvas" Fluid Painting Clean Pour with Swipe Technique using Acrylic & Silicone

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

What to do when you have lots of paint left over??? KEEP POURING! I sure love these ocean colors. Decided to take this acrylic fluid painting to the next level by going ahead and pouring and swiping across 2 more canvases. Use gloss acrylics, metallic gloss acrylics, glue, floetrol, distilled water and used my cake utensil as a swipe tool. Some say I use too much glue, but I happen to disagree and I love the results. Especially when it dries it stays exactly the same as it looked when I started. (That's why I love to show the finished product too). It takes more time to have to wait for all to dry for days, but it's worth it for you all watching because otherwise it's kind of a wasted effort to not see what's gonna hang on the walls. Enjoy!

    Turned out very nice* I do a lot of pouring myself but in the summer months I spray paint and hydrodip! On that note just s quik side note to help out a fellow artist.... when my painting has divits from silicone or what nots... before I put any finish on it, I rub foot powder in circles with a paper towel and let sit for about an hour so any oils will surface, sink into the powder and paper towel then I rinse off under the sink with a lil dawn using rubber glove cuz my fingers have natural oil. Any who, just a helpful hint. I had a painting that the divits popped through 30 days after I put a gloss varnish on it! I was like whaaaat? I'm so glad I didn't sell that one before I had a chance to fix. But after I did the powder thingy, I put 2 more coats of gloss on top. It was fine even 3 months later * I enjoy watching you make art and your odd humor is funny!

    Nikki, that just made my Christmas Eve! Wow. What kind words and I am forever grateful to help you along on your painting journey. If I may ask, what was it that I said or did that inspired you? Was it because I make it "seem" (lol) easy but yet inexpensive? Because I give my mixes away freely? It's always interesting to me why people start something they haven't tried before because they saw something. What started my fluid fever, I was on FB and saw a video by Insider about Crystal Ma and she was doing a dirty pour. I said to myself, "I'm doing THAT!" I watched every video I could to find out how to do it. In reality... No videos were showing the mixes, the whole & complete versions, that is. They were video at high speeds "look what I did" type pours. Not enough info. I scoured more YT and found Anne Marie. She gave the most info on how and then I just went for it out in the garage. My first one sucked so bad, ha. I would like to highlight your story if I could. Send me some pour pics at cmazur1@aol.com

    Carl Mazur what really made me start watching your videos was seeing how much fun you seemed to be having while doing your pours...and how you genuinely loved showing others your techniques...I have also watched video after video on KZread before even attempting my first pour...but like you said none of them really went into alot of detail it seemed on how to mix everything except for you...and I think maybe 2 other people...but, theirs were still not as helpful as yours...I only subscribed to your channel a cpl of weeks ago so I wasnt aware that you give your mixings away for free, not many artist do that so I think that is very generous of you. I also enjoy your sense of humor in all your videos...just lightens the mood and makes it more enjoyable...I have only done 1 dirty pour so far but I have everything ready for my 2nd one tomorrow...I can't wait...I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and Thank You for making my day. Heather you are so gracious, thank you. :) Did you happen to look through my videos for a beach scene sand pour where I used black sand on a beach scene? It's similar to what you talked about but not with black and white. I did pour blue sand on top of some black sand and then did a very light coat of night glimmer almost like a purplish color. I don't know why that video isn't more popular! The green and white swipe wasn't very good video quality but wow it sure does keep going strong lol. I wrote your idea down so maybe I will remember to do it. I wrote your name too in case I can tag you in it. I wish I had the money to hire a full time editor and I could just record pours. Some videos take about 4-5 days to do right, 5-6 hours render time and 4-5 hours upload time.

    Ed, great question. That’s the silicone in the paint making the bubbled effect when it’s wet. Or like there’s little divots is what I think you’re talking about. Yes most all times those dry flat unless they’re huge. Silicone is quite tricky to work with on the backend.

    OH. HECK. YEAH you can use them!! Sometimes I prefer the ones I have messed up on or got some cracking on because they have a nice texture, feel and look to them. So once the crappy paint is really super dry and hard go ahead and get ready to pour. Sometimes I pour on it all again, some I do a stripe down the middle after painting it all with a shiny silver metallic. Its total creative freedom!

    Carl...if you use any other canvas then"canvas" does it need to be treated Prior to use? And is there an actual ratio for mixing the mediums? Ex: 4-1

  • @CarlMazur

    @CarlMazur

    6 жыл бұрын

    Most canvases bought are already gessoed. If its white it has gesso, because canvas is kinda yellow color. Some people gesso over the manufacturer gesso. My mix I use is 3 parts floetrol, 3 parts glue, 1 part acrylic gloss paint and 3 drops of silicone. 3 SMALL drops and that's it!! Stir lightly 3 small times. You should still see silicone on the top kinda greasy looking. That's perfect. Then do your pour add the silicone will react to the other paints because it is still kinda liquid. If you over stir it won't AND if you use too much silicone it will not work. Most people make the mistake of adding too much silicone on their first pours. Let me know how it goes. If you need further direction please email me at cmazur1@aol.com and I will make sure you get the help you need.

Not to speak of how you’ve been training newbies. Have you tried out different resins yet?I don’t know what to buy. Art resin is yellowing. So the word is out on utube.

    REALLY? Art Resin is supposed to be "the" brand right?? Huh. Yeah, I have waited to do resin until I got a few regular pours under my belt because of some it ruined when I tried as a newb. Once the holidays are over and I have some money I can order some resin and start it up. I was also gonna do some pours that ARE archival quality and show peeps the difference between using that and the cheapo stuff. BUT! I dont wanna go all fancy because people like my cheapness haha.

    Thanks Shelley. Since this video I stopped using Mod Podge and started using Liquitex Gloss Varnish because it’s so much better. I also stopped with the house paints because the colors weren’t as true. Not like the titanium white. I usually wait at least 5 days. It depends on the thickness of the paint. If it’s thick you should wait maybe 15 days because you don’t want wet paint underneath still curing.

  • @CarlMazur

    @CarlMazur

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yes I’ve used resin and it’s so beautiful to do but I’ve found resin to be a bit tricky to work with. First I wasn’t letting the paint cure. Second I needed to coat over with a light coat of sealer to seal in that darn silicone. Then mixing the resin properly was an issue too.

    Archival quality is a term thrown around by artists that want their paintings to last a very long time without yellowing or cracking. Over time, the elmer's glue will crack and yellow. Using craft style products are mainly for learning or personal choice. So I am not using the highest quality materials and I want people to know that it's not meant to last forever. I am going to start using PVA that is archival based and products that are more inline to be considered archive quality. But, on the flipside, not everyone is able to afford those products. Some can be really expensive to learn from.

    Shanna Lynn, I just read your question and thought I'd add a bit of my knowledge of the subject too, in hopes that it helps you or any others who may read this, understand better. First let me say, there is absolutely nothing wrong in using non-archival products, use what works for you and what you can afford. Second "artist quality" products, such as archival PVAc glue, usually do cost more due to the extra time and care given to create the finer product and the fact that that it is meant to endure longer. Which brings us to Archival Quality, technically, it means acid free or acid neutral. In artist terms it means all the products used to create that particular piece of art, from canvas to sealer, were all acid free or neutral. The significance of being archival quality is that you and your customers have more assurance that your work will last longer without suffering damage due to aging such as cracking, peeling, yellowing, or fading to list a few. Generally, archival quality implies that the "life expectancy" of the piece of art when displayed and/or stored properly should last for a century or more. It does get more technical in that there are differences such as Conservation grade (100% acid free) or Archival or Museum grade (acid free or acid neutral) but that's a whole other chapter, LOL Hope that helps 💗 just a note: archival glue is not that much more expensive, you can get a great quality PVAc glue from Amazon, Dick Blick, Jerry's Artarama and other places for around $30 US for a 64oz. (½gallon) jug

    Carl, you use of multiple angles(filming) is quite good. But the PIP your putting in the upper right is distracting. It's like watching Monday Night Football or something. During the swipe on the second piece, i was begging for an overhead shot. When you asked @17:44 "see those cells?" my answer was NO! I wondered about using fishing line as a swipe tool. I definitely like your lessons and feel inspired to try.

  • @CarlMazur

    @CarlMazur

    6 жыл бұрын

    The glue acts as a binder to the paint and I believe it helps the cells remain better, dries faster and less cracking, and the consistency between paintings is more trustworthy. I used to get such different results it was frustrating. Now I know what to expect most the times.

    Oh SWEEET!! Nice. I’m so glad you’ve been having success. The glue really makes a difference. Have you tried the Floetrol as well? Together they’re very consistent in creating cells and drying exactly as they look when poured. That’s also another key is the dry period.

    Haha he IS genius!! That’s okay. I’m used to getting interesting feedback on here. And I learned I shouldn’t vent even in the smallest iota on my videos. Even the smallest amount of complaining makes me sound foolish and ignorant. My grandson grabbed my ex wife’s credit card and started a Facebook Ads Account and was running ads for his Facebook Gaming Page at $500 a month. I called attention to it after I saw he had 11,000 followers in only a few months. He tried to lie his way out of it but he knew that I had him busted. He’s such an amazing kid but at that time he went through some mischievous periods. Hope your step grandson pulls through okay. I’m sure he’ll learn. It’s always good to keep me on my toes anyhow. Haha. Merry Christmas 🎄

    I should've explained better. It's Walmart interior/exterior semi-gloss house paint. I am not gonna use it anymore because it's just barely off in color, like a tad or hint of gray in there. I will go back to Apple Barrel brand titanium white, it's a more true white white. Yeah, I don't have a Santa costume! HAHA! Plus I taped this weeks ago lol

    As much as I want to go off right now, I will contain myself. I actually started on disposable cameras FYI. It's okay. I get it. You don't like Elmer's. People love this whole archival/non-archival war drama thing. I have said from the get go, my videos are intended to 1. Inspire 2. Inspire Ideas 3. Show beginner's or people on very limited budgets how to make fluid art 4. This is NOT archival quality 5. Simply having fun doing what I do, creating and listening to other's successes of learning. Seriously don't mind if you insult me but please don't insult artists who are learning and cannot afford a $120 bottle of archival PVA shipped to them. I'm a stepping stone is all. Sorry to see you go on terms that seem emotion driven. I wish you a very Merry Christmas regardless of what our glue/PVA standings are. -CM

    Thanks for sticking up for me Maria. It's okay. I earned it. I should've never said anything about being "slammed" for using glue. People do slam me about it. Fact is... It bloody works! It might not last as long as a Picasso and that's okay. I am mostly showing ideas and techniques for beginners. Once people finally know how to make cells they can slowly venture into higher grade materials. Yes, I love doing this channel and there's no other satisfaction greater than knowing I inspired a lady with cancer to paint again, or a school teacher who didn't think she had the time, or the oil painter man who decided to give it a go even though he deals with extreme pain. Have a very Merry Christmas Maria!!
