Trip to St Barths on the Pilatus PC-12 - GoPro *ATC Audio*
Join me as I fly this beautiful machine from San Juan, Puerto Rico (TJSJ/SJU) all the way across the US and British Virgin Islands into the St Maarten's TMA until finally landing in one of the worlds TOP 10- most challenging airports.
Gustaf III Airport (St Barths: TFFJ/SBH) is located at St Jean's bay in St Barthelemy, a fresh territorial island in the Caribbean, just about 20 miles south east of St Maarten's Princess Juliana Airport (TNCM/SXM).
With a short 2,000 feet runway, a 150ft hill on one side and a small bay area on the other side, and with USUALLY strong crosswinds due to terrain; St Barths has earned its place of one of the top 10 most challenging airports for pilots.

Agree 100% with this.
I was the one that cleared you for take-off this day. Fun stuff! I was curious what it's like to fly to/from Saint Barthelomy entirely from the perspective of a pilot. This is great, thanks for sharing!
That brought back memories of the week I spent in SBH flying as a relief pilot in the Pilatus for TW back in '07. I'll never forget that first landing.
Great video. First time I've seen a St Barth's landing from the cockpit, excellent. Completed with such ease and confidence, no rush at all. A wonderful demonstration of how important getting on the numbers and on profile is.
You made the St, Barths landing look easy...! Thank you for the instructional aspects of the video, flight levels outside US, discussion about the Pilatus' range, airspeed, TAS... all that was really fun and informative.... Show us your preflight, weather Breifing, flight plan filing, walk around.. Awesome video Shamir!!!!! I will be watching every one of your posts...
Beautiful stabilized approach and landing! Thanks for the virtual ride!
What a beautiful place to fly !
Wow, that landing!
...great video...great plane..great views...and a very exciting landing on that short runway with such a steep approach....

Enjoyed the video immensely. The PC-12 is a sensational design, it will interesting to see how well the new PC-24 sells. I have a hunch it will do well. If I ever hit the lotto I’ll be sprinting for a PC-12NG! Thanks for sharing, look forward to seeing more.
Love the PC-12 it’s been my dream plane since I read the Airplane article about it in the summer of 96. One day I will own one

Shamir, although piloting any aircraft is serious work, the PC-12 looks more enjoyable for pilots just for the joy of flying. Flying the very challenging approach into St. Barts and the complex airspace surrounding some dozen airports from San Juan to St. Barts with everything from Wide-body commercial flights to light-sport aircraft is pretty cool. Island hopping in the Northern Carribean looks very interesting. Very impressive. On a side note, has anyone flown a PC-12 into Saba? Just curious.
@fersobe
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill.. its an awesome place to fly that's for sure... On Saba, I don't think so. As far as I know, the online airline with authorization to fly into the airport is Winair on the Twin Otters! I would be interesting to land a PC-12 there.... but I think the problem will honestly be taking off!
Would love to see some kind of review of the Pilatus ;)

How you are not one of the biggest KZread aviation pages is beyond me! Just awesome. Flying for TW in the Caribbean is my dream. Quick question about the flight levels thing: I've always wondered why they'll use flight level for altitudes below 18,000 in the Caribbean. Could you explain the San Juan oceanic thing a bit more? I'm curious. Thanks and AWESOME video!!!

And then you answered my question in the video. Really fantastic job, thanks so much for the great explanations. I watch the SXM webcam everyday and listen to the ATC feed, and I've always wondered about that stuff.

@@IslandSimPilot I'm glad I answered the question on the video. But yeah, its a tricky concept to get around by at first, however, once you do it every day, its pretty simple to grasp and understand. I googled from Transition Altitude and Level and found some images that might help portray better my explanation; you might want to look at them ;-) cheers.

Hi, when ever flaps are selected at 15, 30 or 40, there’s an interlink that connects rudder and ailerons. This will turn the ailerons when using rudder, but not the other way around 🤓
