TRIP REPORT | Emirates Perfection to South Africa | Dubai to Johannesburg | EMIRATES Boeing 777
Emirates Trip Report flying from Dubai to Johannesburg onboard one of the Emirates Boeing 777 on a lovely summer morning, both in the Persian Gulf and over Africa.
A very comfortable flight onboard the Emirates Boeing 777 from Dubai to Johannesburg. Although is not a plane as comfortable as the A380, as the passenger number for this flight was around 50% of the capacity, I managed to get 3 seats for me. That made this 8h+ hop over Africa much more comfortable and easy.
We took off at 4am local time from Dubai towards the south-east. We quickly turned right towards Oman and then enjoyed the first lights of the day entering the Indian Ocean. And here, after 26h awake traveling, I had to sleep. I set the alarm every 30 minutes, so we still got a good idea of the trip. We flew in parallel to the Somalia coast and entered then Tanzania (after overflying Zanzibar). We also saw Malawi Lake and the north-west part of Mozambique. Then we entered Zimbabwe, leaving the capital Harare at our right, already flying directly to Johannesburg.
The onboard service left me with very mixed feelings. Just after departure, they served 2 mini-sandwiches with a plastified little piece of cake. I personally didn't like the taste, but that's just a subjective opinion. Then, the main meal was in the morning: a warm breakfast. Well, you can see it on the video... if we compare it to any meal we've got in any other Emirates flight, it is easy to see that it is not at the same level. I'm not saying it was bad, not at all. What I mean is that this meal is what you would expect in any airline. But the point is that we are not in any airline, but in Emirates.
Why mixed feelings? Because the service, the human part of the service was as excellent as always. Initially, I went for the cheese omelet but I was still hungry after all night without eating, so I asked for another one. They told me there were no more omelets but the other meal option, which was scrambled eggs. Instead of bringing them, they brought me a new full breakfast service! Awesome.

Its a nice one, but in my opinion far from others like Doha, Istanbul...
The comfort of the first class on this Emirates Aircraft is simply incredible, and the Dubai airport is wonderful too! No comments! Ivaldo faleiro. São José do Rio Preto sp Brasil.

Thank you for sharing your interesting trip to Joburg. I also like flying with Emirates. The last time I used Emirates was on a vacation flight in business class from Zurich to Malé/Maldives via Dubai with A380 (6 hours) and B777 (5 hours). Emirates provided an exceptionally good service and the flight times were punctual. Recommended at any time.😁

Yes I agree with you about the catering on not just Emirates, but Qatar too, since covid, yes everything has changed, not just the catering but the cabin crew too, not as good as it use to be (what do you think?) but a sign of the times I guess ?
I'm going on vacation in 4 days to Crete , Greece and with TUI , i can't wait 🎉

Have been wondering if Emirates kind of quality grade's their food depending on wheather "one" fly's too?,like for example the African flight routes could be a grade (B) status rating re catering &.,say on the other hand Dubai to say London could be graded with a (A) status rating with better food option's. Just a thought though, might only be my ways of thinking! ✈Awesome as always your flight reviews are a 10/10 rating👍

Believe it or not, when I was recording the video I had the exactly same thoughts... I don't know... maybe just coincidence... but my JNB flights catering was the worse I had on Emirates.

Nice trip report. 😊 I would appreciate reports from East, North East or South East Asia. Have you visited them yet? And then maybe reports from South America. Brasil, Argentina. South America is definitely on the plans, but I'm waiting until it's summer there (longer days) so I can make more videos per day of staying there :) Have a nice weekend!!

great video! but you got the registration incorrect - at the end of the video the reg read ‘CH’ on the aircraft’s front nose wheel. so it would be A6-ECH you flew on not EBW 👍

The flight and service were good But the problem is that people always have very hight expectations on airlines likes Emirates, Qatar or Singapore that are the best airlines in the world, so even when they are good sometimes we don't get satisfied. About the business class configuration is really not the most updated but all big airlines have this problem they have on super update configuration that they use in their marketing and take time to update all the plenes.Airfrance today has three or four Business configuration for their triple 777

Why most reviewers give feedback about legroom without telling their height 🤦🏻♂️ A good legroom for someone can be too tight for other person who is tall. And for record, for someone taller than 5’10 legroom on emirates 777 is HORRIBLE

Yeah, if you’re above 6’0, always book premium economy or its equivalent at a minimum if you want to prevent severe leg cramps

It’s honestly not that bad. As someone who is 1,90m and has flown a few flights on the Emirates 777, I’ve never had any problems regarding the legroom. And the rest was fantastic anyways.

My worst international flight was with Emirates in 2022, their customer service was equally terrible and they damaged my luggage flying from Dubai to London.

Why don’t you say what the keg room is in inches/ centimetres, That would make more sense than putting you hand between your knees and the seat, We don’t know how tall you are and how you are sitting in your seat

Business class has a 2-3-2 seat configuration? That is outdated. No modern widebody aircraft has anything more than a 2-2-2 configuration in business class, middle seats of any kind are no more. The economy seats are 3-4-3 like a 747 economy. 777s and 747s are very similar in most ways except that on the 777 there's no upper deck and there are 2 engines instead of 4 (the 2 aircrafts are just as powerful as each other though because one 777 engine is equal power to two 747 engines)
