The whole beginning up until 3:20 is in 9/8. Also the "Curse of the Ninth" is a superstition that a composer will die after writing their ninth symphony, apparently. Glad you are interested :)

Gladigator Crandestrine Well, I am 55 - so I suppose that I am old. However, I run a jazz club..... This is brilliant. The best bands playing at our club are the fusion bands and the prog metal bands. (We do the odd prog metal night.) Music is well and truly alive - you'll just never hear it in the commercial media.

Graeme Oxley Prog metal night sounds awesome! I've accidentally gotten accustomed to not liking stuff out of popularity, like a hipster, haha, it's just ridiculous how more often than not, the more popular a band is, the more watered-down they are. I think you know what I mean, and there are always exceptions, just a trend I've noticed.

Kinda randomly jumping into this conversation, but most genre seems to have some truly great music building right now. Especially when bands are influenced by jazz. Check out some of Maps and Atlases older stuff and Circa Survive's newer stuff. Different genres with some killer music. I like the direction music is headed.

"Shawn Lane & Brett Garsed" (also called MVP, short for the Mike Varney Project) or "Soil and Pimp Session". Somewhat similar although they are very different. The first being more "traditional" and funky (mainly because it's older) the second being more "punk". Both of them employ less of the "Soundscapes" style that is used here. You might want to look into the Japanese Jazz scene.
