Trinity College Dublin campus TOUR - Long Room Library, Ireland | Ovi.Med

Hi everyone! In this week's video I will take you along a campus tour of Trinity College Dublin in Ireland. I'm a first-year medical student here at TCD and I'm by no means an expert or a tour guide. In fact, I don't have a lot of knowledge about these buildings here so take what I say with a pinch of salt. I don't often have lectures on the central campus, I'm at TBSI most of the time (Trinity Biomedical Science Institute), but I really wanted to share with the world just how beautiful the campus is!
I will show you the main buildings that I know off on and around the Parliament Square such as the Public Theater, the Regent House, the Chapel, the Dining Hall, the Campanile and then moving on to the Graduates Memorial Building, The Rubrics, the Museum Building, Trinity's Business School and last but not least, The Old Library (also known as the Long Room Library). There's a multitude of interesting buildings on the campus that I didn't mention in this video, but the video would last forever if I went through every single building.
As I mentioned in the video, all the curtains are drawn and there's minimal amounts of lighting in the Long Room in order to preserve the books. As a consequence, the quality of the clips have been severely affected but I put some long exposure pictures that I took to compensate for that.
I hope you enjoy this video and If you want to join me on my journey through medical school or if you want to know what it's like to be a medical student here at Trinity College Dublin, make sure you click on that subscribe button and give this video a like. Can students study in/access the books within the Long Room? It looks like it's portioned off. Is that a covid measure or permanent?

  • @ovimed

    @ovimed

    2 жыл бұрын

    It's permanent, they're really old books and I heard that they can only be taken out of the shelves into a reading room if you have a special letter from a professor that says you need that specific book (dont quote me on that tho)

    Can you do a tour in Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute

  • @ovimed

    @ovimed

    3 жыл бұрын

    Due to the current sanitary situation I don't think it is the safest thing to do. Moreover, students must go directly to their classes and head straight out when they are finished as to minimize potential contacts with other students/staff. So, I will not be making a tour of TBSI any time soon, but you can see clips and footage of the inside in my other videos though.

    Don't - Go To visit Book of Kells!! I had the most outrage treatment at the gift shop of the Book of Kells exhibition at the Trinity College - with my family including two 5 & 6 year old children. Because there was no public bathroom at the exhibition building, their father had to use it at another building. While I waited with the children at the shop, a male staff wanted us to leave even though we bought their merchandises. I explained the situation and pled with him to let us stay because the shop was our meeting place and their father's US phone did not work in Ireland. He replied "I gave you 5 minutes. Leave." I was so shocked and speechless at his rudeness and callousness. We were their customers, we had two children just waiting for someone to return from the bathroom, and it was pouring rain outside. Seriously, this guy didn't care about the customers, or children. He wanted to kick us out in the rain outside! Fortunately their father returned shortly. But this will always be my bad memory of Ireland. I do not recommend Book of Kells and the Trinity college for any visitors - based on my experience, I think it is overrated. People should know about it!! BTW, most shelves in the library are empty. There are only two pages of the book that you get to see at the exhibition.

    Sorry to hear about your experience. As a student I've been about 5 times and it's always been a pleasure. I think they might be doing some conservation/renovation works at the library at the moment. I would suggest getting in touch with the staff to let them know about your experience.

    @@ovimed How long ago was that? The culture certainly has changed. The staff told me that his manager told him to request us to leave. They just don't care about the customers. They know that they can treat their customers horribly without any consequence. I had much better and more professional customer service at the Guinness Storehouse. I think that the management of the shop and maybe the college should be replaced and led by the professionals from the Guinness Storehouse. Huh?

    @@rounakkabir They offer a MBBS equivalent, so it'll be recognised as a MBBS in India. It's M.B. (Bachelor of Medicine), B.Ch. (Bachelor of Surgery), B.A.O. (Bachelor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology). MBBS is a 5½ year course, while this is a 5 year course (at least in TCD)
