    Fucking Trinisphere. So complex it literally has its own step in the process of determining total cost. 😐

    Only because to work within the rules, they needed to add another step. From what I understand, once the cost is determined during casting, it doesn't change. Otherwise, it's rather straightforward.

    Honestly the only complex part is that the mana cost for a spell can sometimes be paid with something other than mana, such as with delve or convoke. All that aside, it's quite simple: After other adjustments, if your cost was less than 3, it goes up to 3.

    It's honestly more like reading the card and having read and memorized the comprehensive rule book explains the card, except this still doesn't exactly always work due to a potential errata or an update to the comprehensive rules.

    This is EXACTLY how you encourage growth and participation in the hobby itself. Your win right that moment, outside of a major tournament anyway, doesn't matter much, but getting players more into the game is very important.

    This is not the fault of Trinisphere, persay. Delve, Convoke and Improvise all pay for costs, where as Affinity reduces the cost. Affinity is the only one that existed when Trinisphere came out, and it was probably designed to keep Affinity in check in Standard (the most common format at the time).

    Also note worthy: phyrexian mana works like an alternative cost and not like a way of paying the mana. That means if a trinisphere is in play you can choos to pay 1bb for dismember or 3geniric and 4 life.

  • @biiill5259
    @biiill52592 ай бұрын

    I think a way to rewrite the card to make it less confusing is “if a player would pay less than 3 mana to cast a spell they must pay x where x is the difference”. That way it’s clear that the trinisphere tax is separate from the regular mana cost and can’t be effected by cost reducing. That and reading how the different cost reducing effects work. Delve, convoke and improvise pay for the cost, affinity reduces the cost

    The issue isn't Trinisphere. It makes perfect sense. The issue is people not paying attention to the difference between cost reduction or alternative costs and other ways to pay the cost.

    can someone explain how trinisphere makes Myr enforcer 3 regardless of the amount of artifact he has? Because that's what he says in the video and I don't get it? Is it because Myr enforcer could HYPOTHETICALLY be less than three so trinisphere activates or am I missing something?

    To cast it for a single blue mana with trinisphere on board? 5. The total cost of the spell is still 6 mana, but exiling the five cards pays for the colourless component of the spell's mana cost. (if you want to get technical, Trinisphere is applied at step 4 of step 4 of casting the spell while the delve "cost reduction" happens later, at step 8 of casting the spell where you actually pay the mana)
